He still can\'t get a parole hearing.
-
Well, TV stealing is a serious offense...
But seriously, that\'s totally fcuked up.
-
That is one of the worst things I\'ve heard in sometime.

Thing is.....will the old man be able to get a stable home when he\'s out? That\'s the dichotomy of this whole thing : give him freedom....and he could be unhappy, miserable and end up homeless. Leave him in jail and we are violating his civil rights.
-
There is no way he will be able to adjust to freedom after being in prison all this time an even if he does - his life is gone. The goverment stole the one thing that can\'t be given back.

Get busy livin\' or get busy dying...

"These walls are kind of funny. First you hate \'em, then you get used to \'em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That\'s institutionalized. They send you here for life, that\'s exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyways. "

"What happened to a toad that gets struck by lightning?
THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENS TO EVERYTHING ELSE!!!"

Wrong movie, THX. :p
"They insist the reason he got such a harsh sentence was because he fought with the victim -- a crime for which Allen was never charged."
Typical podunk southern justice. A black man lays hands on a white woman, so they give him life for stealing a B&W television. They should find out if Judge James Pou Bailey is still alive and get his ass on the hot seat too.
-
Sherman needs to go back there and burn down the state just for fun.
-
I think this story is a load of crap. He\'d get a slap on the wrist today worst 5 years in prison. Its just rediculous that he went to life for a B&W TV.
-
Really an unfair story. I think it\'s better to be free even if he may not have the money to support himself than to be in jail. Freedom is really really big.

I know it - it\'s not like it was a COLOR TV.
-
I could care less, he did a crime- so tough luck for him.
He shouldnt have dont it first of all.
-
You guys forget that he beat up an old lady to get the tv. Granted he wasn\'t charged with it, but you know what that must have been like back when he got busted? A black guy beating up an old white lady.
He\'s certainly been in long enough, but he shouldn\'t have done it in the first place.

Be free and be unhappy or be in jail and be unhappy. Theres no way he can be happy in jail.
I\'d rather be free and unhappy.

Yep. Also, he was not exactly a model prisoner either. Hence the denial of parole hearings.

Then again....if a judge tells me "You get LIFE for stealing a TV!" I wouldn\'t be on my best behaviour either.
