is it better to install pc games in one folder on the hardrive or should i use the default directory the game uses to spread them out a bit on the drive. Basically, will my pc run slower if i have a large lump of files in one folder(probably 10-11GB) instead of having those same files in different folders throughout my harddrive?

Directory order won\'t really matter much. The files will all be reorganized when you do your optimizations, and since you generally don\'t run say, two games at once, it won\'t matter if they are next to each other physically, or not. If you want them to perform at their best, when you optimize, specify for the game files to be at the end of the disk, so that they\'re on the outside of the disk, hopefully going fastest.
Really though, you aren\'t going to get as much of an improvement by doing this as you will by checking your background processes and such.

what optimization program are you running?

Windows comes with its own driver defragmenting software, but most people I know like Norton SpeedDisk.
Check around though, there might be better optimization utilities out \'dere.

It\'s best to have 2 HD\'s. One that\'s quiet, fast and reliable to hold and load your OS info and the files and programs you intend to keep for the length of your puter\'s life.
The other HD for files you constantly delete, create, and modify. Such as Kazaa files, net video of the week, and DV editing. That way when it\'s time to defrag it\'s quicker and simpler. I do this and my master HD never needs a defrag.

or... you could just partition your harddrive.
I\'ve got a 80 gig hard drive partitioned into 4 sections. 18.6 gig per section (you lose space on the format) Each section is for certain things, Operating system = C: Games = D: etc.

That\'s what I did as well. Multi Partitions.
Plus I have 3 external firewire drives.

well i ended up partitioning w/ partition magic 8. I\'ve got my 80GB into 40GB for the main drive. 25GB for mp3s, and 15GB for games.:bounce: thanks

I got my main drive and then I got my USB drive - that has nothing but porn. It\'s a 60 gig and it only has around 10 gigs left on it . Within another month, I will buy another USB HD , most likely 200 gig.
