My editor wants to buy a brother in law a good first person shooter for a PC.
Just got his computer like 4 months ago so it should be rather up to date on hardware.
Any suggestions?

Halo
Half-Life
UT2003
-
I mentioned Ultimate Tourny to him... I\'ll recommend the others as well.
-
Call of Duty is pretty good although a little on the short side
-
Is he looking for online play?
-
IT\'s just a basic gift. Not really sure. He was just thinking of a doom type of FPS.
-
Call of Duty seems good.
Cant go wrong with Half-Life. The game itself is so old no one really plays it to my knowledge- but its mods are amazing (Day Of Defeat, Counterstrike, etc.)
Unreal Tournament 2003 also seems good, I havent picked it up- due to my extreme laziness.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Call of Duty
Vietcong
Tom Clancy\'s Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
Battlefield: 1942
Unreal II: The Awakening
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi outcast or Academy
some oldies
Deus Ex
Half Life
Kingpin
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Sin
there\'s a few. Personally i\'d get Vietcong. Was a very good game.

Unfortunately I can\'t remember the last time I played a good sci fi FPS since Halo. If he hasn\'t played it yet he\'ll enjoy it.
-
not on pc he won\'t..
the pc version sucks major ass.
-
aye, it did
call of duty would be highly recommended
a bit short for fps veterans tho
-
Yes, a good question would be if he\'s looking for online play or not. From the looks of it, he isn\'t very experienced so this is a question mark. Soulgrind listed most of the good stuff, but if the guy is ready for competition.. Quake III would be an obvious (and cheap) choice. It\'s easily the best pure deathmatch-based multiplayer FPS I\'ve played.
(games such as BF1942 and RTCW are teamplay-based)
I tried the Call of Duty demo and felt it to be rather polished, an excellent choice for single-player. Of course, if he hasn\'t played Half-Life.. that\'d be a good place to start for anybody. Great level design, great multiplayer.

Half-Life is hardly the gift for 2003 though... I mean, it\'s what - 6 years old now? :)
Let it die and buy some current stuff instead.
PS. No need to flame - I know HL is all that and a bag of chips, but come on. This is almost 2004.
-
I haven\'t played any recently but I\'ve heard good things about Call of Duty.
-
Samwise: Not a bad idea I guess, from a certain point of view anyway.
Personally that\'d be one of my picks though, just as I\'d suggest all fans of modern Zelda games (OoT/MM/TWW) to go back and experience the first 3 or 4 Zelda titles. Sometimes the roots are even better than the fruit.

Another vote for Call of Duty! Best FPS ive played in a long time.
-
I\'m not up to date on FPS games because my PC was not capable of running the new ones until recently. Some good OLD games are:
System Shock 2 - (Sci Fi)
Clive Barker\'s Undying - (Horror)
Unreal _____ (can\'t tell them apart :))
I don\'t care what anyone says, Half Life is the king. Opposing Force was one of my favorite games for a long time. Counter-Strike might well be the best multiplayer game of all time.
I recently tried Serious Sam for the hell of it. What a piece of crap.
I\'m planning to try Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Jedi Knight 2. Waiting for Half Life 2 like everyone else. :D
-
I\'ll have to agree, Half Life is still the king. Even after all these years it honestly has the most "soul" out of all these games. You care about your character who doesn\'t even talk, and you get scared sh*tless running away from that ginormous monster in the parking garage.
I never got into Counterstrike, the multiplayer HL engine seems too hokey for me.
Honorable mention for Unreal I as it was also a game ahead of its time. I still remember that creepy first level when your space ship crash lands.
-
I wish my computer would do some of these games. I\'m still holding out for at least another year. Mine = Teh Suck

ARMED AND DANGEROUS!!!!! This game rules... its funny as hell and the graphics are superb. Sort of reminds me of Giants only better.
