not sure if this was done already,..maybe it was with all the movie critics in here. anyway here it goes.
creepshow 1 & 2 ..ha just saw this again 2day ..very funny stuff!
in the mouth of madness..seen this just recently very good flick true horror.
hellraiser 1 & 2..the first two were excellent imo. The later films became a little watered down to me.
friday the 13th prt 2..this was the only jason flick i really liked & maybe 4..but not that crap that was jason x! I never saw the jason vs freddy.. maybe you cat\'s can comment on that?
aliens- I know this might fall under sci-fi but this was truly a great film the best in the series..i find myself watching it everytime it comes on no matter how many times i\'ve seen it.
tales from the darkside the movie- this is similar to the creepshow joints.very entertaining sit.
halloween 1 & 2 &...4 the one where there was a guy dressed in black wandering around town.
day of the dead- heh i liked this one for special effects of the zombies a lot of gut spilling-eating.etc.
well that\'s all i can think off the top of my head but as you can see i have\'nt listed any of the recent horror joints that came out,...like house of the dead?-wtf?-who\'s gonna go see a joint where cat\'s are fightin zombies with matrix like abilities? house of 1000 corpes..bs to me the older joints will always be better. Directors today just aren\'t creative ..tho i must admit resident evil was decent..for a game movie ..it had some of that matrix sh** too tho...thoughts?

Sixth Sense.... no competition
-
I could go on and on but I\'ll just say any George Romero film and The Shining.
-

Oh, and what is better?
Freddy VS Jason?
Exorcist is classic.
-
"the McPhereons tape", althouogh last time i mentioned it i think i was the obly one ever to have seen it so i fony expect anyone 2 agree with me =]
-
The Shining me thinks...
-
Blair Witch 1
IT (movie sucked, book was FANTASTIC)
Cabin Fever
Children Of The Damned was very freaky.
-
Excorcist is not a classic. It\'s an over-rated piece of trash.
Classic is, Night of the Living Dead.
-
fastson and LIC have it nailed, methinks.
Also I remember being scared shitless of some movie about salem, mass annd devil worship. I don\'t know the name of it.
-
Here\'s the list.
The Shining (Kubrick version)
Night of the Living Dead (original)
Day of the Dead
I Spit On Your Grave
Last House on the Left
Suspiria
Opera
Halloween
Nightmare on Elm Street
New Nightmare
The Bride of Frankenstein
Ringu
The Eye
The Curse of Frankestein
The Dead Zone
Re-Animator
Physco
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Changeling
The Beyond
The House by the Cementary
Return of the Living Dead
Alien
The Hills have Eyes
and a few others..
-
dario argento - suspiria
-
Glitter
-
Child\'s play
-
two weeks notice.
or anything starring that pant-load Hugh Grant.
-
Here goes:
From Beyond
Re-Animator
Braindead
Cannibal Holocaust
Flowers of Flesh & Blood (haven\'t seen it all, but dang that was sick)
Grandma\'s house
I spit on your grave
Basket Case (the first one, the rest were shyte)
Hellraiser (the first two, and only the uncut versions)
Slugs (just because it was such a bad movie)
Phantasms
The Blob (\'88 remake, been a favourite of mine since I was a kid)
And a whole lot more, but I\'m supposed to be studying for a test so I\'m going to keep doing that.
-
Cannibal Holocaust is decent, along with Cannibal Ferox - but when I say "decent" I mean for pure shock value. What other movie\'s feature real live animals being killed on set? That\'s what made the Cannibal series.
From Beyond is decent, then again I\'m a whore for anything with Jeffery Combs. Some people claim that Bruce Campell is king of the B-rated movie\'s, I disagree! It\'s Combs all the way, baby.
-
I am just a fan of everything HP. Lovecraft, having Combs in it is an added bonus, a very big one yes but still just a bonus.

Negatory, good buddy! The Exorcist is a great movie. It would be on my list along with Night of the Living Dead.
-
Night of the living Dead might be a cult movie (I own it on DVD), but it isn\'t exactly scary. At least not as much as, say, The Exorcist would have been at the time.
-
Sam, I had respect for you until you called \'Night of the Living Dead\' a "cult" movie. \'Evil Dead\' is a"cult movie", \'Night of the Living Dead\' is cinematic history.
-
Sorry, I didn\'t mean cult then... cinematic history is the right word. ;)
But in my head cult just meant a good and popular movie (within certain cicles).
-
Certain circles? You mean, regarded as one of the single most famous horror movie\'s, among horror fans, directors, critics and the general audience? If so - yeah then its "cult".
:D
-
Horrorfans? Certainly.
Directors? Sure.
Critics? Yup.
General audience? Doubtful... ;)
Let me elaborate - I don\'t think Joe Schmoe thinks a black and white movie from the 60\'ies is very exciting, especially considered how \'tame\' it is compared to mainstream horror nowadays. Don\'t get me wrong, that\'s his loss. But unfortunatly that\'s how I think the general (=stupid) audience sees it (that is, if they have even seen it ;)).
-
I think horror and only a few movies come to mind that had me intrigued while uneasy, disgusted, and scared.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (old and new)
Halloween
Alien
Aliens
Then there are some films that did a better job at creating suspense that fall in to the horror category.
The Shining
The Ring (Yes, I have seen Ringu...was okay)
The Sixth Sense
The one horror flick I enjoyed but vowed never to watch again is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I have never been more terrified in my life...no sense in putting myself through that again.
-
I envy you Ginko. A grown man scared of horror movie\'s - which means you still can get a thrill from them.
I haven\'t been able since I was 10 or so.
-
LIC- dont say the Exorcist is trash.
It is godlike.
And yes, Ive seen almost all the movies listed here. So dont think Im un-educated.
-
I never saw the appeal of the Exorcist - but that\'s cool.
-
If their is sarcasm in that post- ignore all.
Finally you can get it through your biased skull that their are other opinions in the world.

Was no sarcasm.
I simply won\'t argue it. I find that the film is over-rated , but most people would disagree with it me and it is also held in high regard by critics and people. Therefor, I won\'t deny it\'s merits.
-
I\'m a fan of most Halloween, Nightmare, and Jason movies, but each lost its appeal in recent years, with the exception of H20 which was an underated sequel. However non of them were particularly scary.
My favs would include...
The Ring
Cabin Fever
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
and a new one Gothika
Also, a completely underated horror flick known as Jacob\'s Ladder also tops my list because it gets in your head and involves a lot of thought. Similar to the book Slaughterhouse-V.

It\'s like everything worldly goes out the door and whatever it is I\'m watching or reading takes over...especially when I\'m reading. I can read for hours on end and not even realize it.
If a horror film is convincing...characters, atmosphere, story, etc, I will totally get wrapped up in it.
Side note: Gothika is okay, the ads made it seem more scary than it actually is.
-
The "scariest" "horror" film I\'ve seen is maybe.. Audition? It wasn\'t even that scary, really. It\'s really suspense, too.. ehhh. I\'m just not very frightened by horror movies I guess.. especially not the cheesy Hellraiser/Halloween/Friday/Nightmare variety. I will say that I enjoyed watching the Halloween series, and Hellraiser 1/2 were mildly entertaining.. just not scary. A little on the spooky side, yes.. but nothing bone-chilling.
-
I was pretty freaked out during The Exorcist 2.. But it was mainly what was going on when it came out.
It was during the serial murders at UF that it came out. A lot of the things that happened in the movie the serial killer did. It was pretty creapy.
-
As for horror right now, I don\'t think Oriental movies can be beat (especially Japanese movies).
-
I\'m with Samwise... I just saw Suicide Circle... WTF!!! The opening scene was MOFMOFKMOMF! OMF!GGG!!!!!!
Anyway, for those who said Cabin Fever, shame on you. That movie sucks balls.

another one i forgot was evil dead 2..heh funny stuff!

Though horror flicks have not spooked me since I was 5. Here is my list of favorites.
Last house on the Left
Brain Damage
The Hills have eyes. Only because they did not wuss out and made the actors use a real rattlesnake.
Versus. Mindless fun with zombies
Day of the Dead. I prefer this one over night. With that said night should also be included.
Halloween.
Dog Soldiers. Nice british maybe Irish flick. One of the werewolf movies that do not suck.
The shining.
The fog
The thing
The entire prophecy series.
Evil Dead 1 and 2.
Event Horizon though some may debate it being a horror movie.
Dead Alive.
There are quite a few other flicks I favor. Too many to post.
-
Pffft... Debate what you want, Event Horizon was a horror movie in my book....

Also in mine. A horror movie to me is something that just wants to scare the **** out of you, and end it at that. Alot likepuberty, .

Shoot me.
Anyway. I havent been scared by a movie in forever. Many movies that are supposed to be horror flix never scared me much. When i was a kid, i had a huge fear of natural disaster flix. I dont know why.
Aliens
Event Hornizon
Children of the Corn series (very debateable. wont even try)
Session 9 (maybe)
Can\'t really think...

More like the first time you cream yourself. I dont remember but that must be the most traumatizing thing in the world.
-
No a horror movie but required viewing..
Ichi the Killer
Battle Royale
-
Ichi the Killer was... disturbing. :D

I agree 100%. I think hollywood is doing a version of dark water isn\'t it? Btw some of the korean is not too shabby.
-
They\'re also remaking Ju-On (The Grudge).
But I hate it when distributors pick up a foreign title and never intends to release it (*looks at Miramax*). Perhaps they figure the general audience can\'t figure out how to read subtitles (or, more correct I think, they\'re afraid the superior movie will take business from a remake), but in 9 out of 10 times the original movie is better than the remake.
Oh well. At least I can buy them on DVD.

Correct me if I am wrong. it has been months sice I ordered dark water, but isn\'t that JU-On? The little girl in the raincoat? I have problems with some of the original japanese names.
-
No, I believe Ju-On is about a haunted house. Dunno what Dark Water is called in the original language though. I also tend to get confused from time to time. ;)

I will go on the look for this one then. Most of the time I end up describing the movie instead of the name. If I mention the name to most of my friends they lose interest. If I explain the story they tend to be more interested.
-
Dark Water = Honogurai mizu no soko kara
The Grudge = Ju-On (well, Ju-On: The Grudge)
So now that should be cleared up. :)
But I still haven\'t seen either one of them yet. :(
I have The Eye (Jian gui) on DVD though... I believe that one\'s Korean (made by the Pang brothers).
-
The eye is a decent flick. Not one of my favorites, but it is better than Dark Water. Btw i will never even type the jap name of it.
I so want to go into a spoiler for the eye, but I will refrain.
My memory of Ju-on is coming back I think. If I am not mistaken this time. It was once a japanese tv show, and then made into a movie. Thus the reason I stayed away from it. I think.
Do you have a multi-region player yet? I could not live without mine at this point. New movies for the most part suck. The only creative movie makers for the most part appear to be in the orient. For some reason when movies hit Korea they get an english dub, and are still legit. I think that is where most of my asian movies have come from.
-
Yeah, I\'ve always had region free DVD players. I like the larger selection (R1 DVDs, R3, R4 etc.). Most of my DVD\'s are R2 (European) but I also have some R1\'s and R3\'s. :)
EDIT: I don\'t think there\'s any reason to stay away from Ju-On... I heard it\'s quite scary. Dunno about the TV series thing - but wasn\'t Ringu made into a TV series also?
Do you guys get any of those movies in theaters? I\'ve seen both Ringu and The Eye in theaters here (in fact I was the only one there watching Ringu... pretty creepy ;)). I think Ju-On was also released some time ago, but unfortunatly I never got to watch it (so I\'ll get the DVD sometime :)).
-
Atleast where I live we do not get a Japanese Horror flicks. I would be happy beyond belief if so.
So I do for the most part blind buys. My next purchase was going to be stacy, but I may go ahead and do Ju-On.
The us is also making a ring 2. It will not follow the storyline of ring 2 either. I suppose it will be a movie about more silly horses or some bs.
Edit: I just ordered juon. Should be here in a week or so.

Will do.

Miramax is a bunch of dickheads. They made it "illegal" to import \'Hero\' and apparently are goin\' to cut and edit it to death for the American audiences.
-
Silly rabbits. I saw it in the theatre and it was quite good. Some people thought it was corny or whatever. To those people I say... Bah. :)
