Today I went to this Christian X-mas show that my girlfriend was in. And I said "so when are you going to dance?" this old lady said "we do not dance, they are not sinning!"...wth?
While many couples who engage in social dancing never delve into immoral behavior, 1 Thessalonians 5:22 says we are to, "Avoid every kind of evil." The best way to avoid evil is to avoid those temptations that can easily lead to the evil. Some have claimed that public social dancing is a better alternative than couples isolating themselves and engaging in petting and other intimacies. But rather than discouraging sexual intimacies, social dancing makes physical intimacies more attractive and inviting. The Assemblies of God has historically opposed social dancing because it can potentially lead innocent people into temptation and sin.
I watched them "moving to a beat" and they looked like sticks with legs they couln\'t move their hips or something...
WE BELIEVE...A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.
Kind of harsh...Ok if god is "all knowing" and so good why is there "evil"...That means that God knew about it and didn\'t do anything about it...or that God created evil and meant for it to happen...
HOLY crap...I mean I knew Christianity had some crazy ass logic but this? "ohh baby I love dancing this slow song with you...lets have sex"...wth?

Religions cripple mankind.
-
Yes and no, religion has given a number of people a reason to live, and that in itself is reason enough for it to exist. Of course on the other hand, religion has given people a reason to kill.
-
My wife grew up in church of god. ALl her family is like that. SHe isn\'t at all. He family doesn\'t go to movies, dance, etc. The women don\'t cut their hair. It\'s rather odd since I\'ve come from a somewhat non religious back ground. My wife took her mom to a movie like in 1994 or something. It was the first movie she had ever gone to with her mom and she wasn\'t allowed to tell anyone.

If any of your wife\'s family is a closet PS2 fan, you are in BIG trouble, mister.

dancing was lucifers pasttime, thats why it\'s considered "evil"
-
Don\'t throw away the whole barrel because of a few bad apples. I\'ve been a Christian my whole life, in and out of countless churches and I have yet to meet anyone who would consider dancing a sin.
Your girlfriend is a mongoloid sirmystiq, drop her. Where do you meet these people?
-
Dancing isn\'t evil...you\'re taking all dancing, and blowing it out of proportion. This kind of stupid overly hardcore Christian logic is how my uncle raised his kids, and they are terrified of the dumbest things. People have their exaggerated beliefs, and then claim them as something that is in the bible and then people have more reasons to say..."Oh that\'s also why the bible is stupid"...
Human Beings have all kinds of amazing, beautiful talents, such as art, music, sports, acrobatics, dancing, singing. Women are incredibly beautiful creatures, and no matter what they\'re doing, from standing idle and doing nothing, to dancing, er whatever, guys will have thoughts going on in their head, and it\'s natural. I understand that "erotic dancing" like at raves and underground parties, or just parties in general tempt people to do things they wouldn\'t have done unless put in that situation, raising body temperature, hormones raging, consumption of mind-altering substances, etc. A girl moving her hips around isn\'t gonna get her pregnant. And the old lady you talked to is senile and ignorant, like many Christians who try and find everything wrong in people instead of finding out how "God" wants them to be, and then better themselves for it. You have every right to think "what the crap is going on here?" I mean...who\'s gonna go have sex after the Christian X-Mas event when everyone there is against that, and you\'re just there to see the show? I can understand if they\'re wearing nothing, but I\'m sure they\'re fully clothed. Having a little fun isn\'t a sin, and I\'m sorry for that lame experience you had.
-
Evil is merely the absence of good.
And I\'m a Christian as well and nobody in our church is like that. Maybe because we\'re crazy Baptists who like to sing, dance, and do whatever is fun while worshipping... But yeah, what denomination is your gf Mystiq? She part of the apostolic church?
-
Assembly of God...
The punks even told her to break up with me b/c "I might make her sin"
Ohh and her friend told her to break u with me b/c of my Catholic background.
I understand religion. I mean out of all religions Christianity is the only one that at least tries to adress every single question a human might have. But also, I think that people took advantage of this and used it as a form of control back in the day, worst than it is now.
-
Yea imagine taking this situation and multiplying it by 1000x in the Salem Witch trials era.
-
Lol, what kind of discussion is this... there are some sad people around.
-
Reminds me of that crap Kevin Bacon film "Footloose". :D
-
Footloose is based on the beliefs of the Church of God.
This is not normal Christianity. These people really believe anything extra in life is going to throw you into the depths of hell.

Religion is supposed to free you and instead of freeing you, the way its used today it imprisons you in fears.
And I hate it even more when they blend it with politics and patriotism.:mad:

Fools! Catholics have Mardi Gras.....and we invite ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE! :D Don\'t matter what yer religion is! Public drunkeness, tit flashing, DANCING!!!! etc etc!

Yes, its in our nature to kill people, but you know how many lives would be spared if the hate that caused them was not sparked by religion.
The Holocaust would never have even happened, and even if it did- it would happen to a smaller degree.
Swifdi- religion is a tool, used to make people belive their is a higher power, and that we have a meaning to a life, and arent just scientific creation over time. Religion works too. People believe, and they are happy. But I am more happy knowing what it is. And you are happy believing what religion is. I hold nothing against it, rather I hold against my own family, for them pressing religion upon me when it is not wanted. And I apologize for a rash statement. If you are happy with religion, great, Since Im happy without religion, great. Wouldnt God intend us to live a happy life?
Also; you know you are basing your entire belief system on a book that is several thousand years old? I am basing mine on things that are uncovered every day.
So dont call me ****ing stupid? Alrighty? Just because I can ignite you, doesnt mean you have to resort to 3rd grade tactics, you poo-poo head. ;)

I\'m positive that the events your recalling were all primarily instigated in the name of religion however today we can reflect and see it was for personal conquests and gains. What\'s done is done, you do not know whether or not if history was an element whether things would have been more peaceful or not.
The Holocaust would never have even happened, and even if it did- it would happen to a smaller degree.
Pffft... The Holocaust was hardly due to any religious reasons... Hitler was a lunatic, plain and simply... He was obsessed with the rise of the Aryan (blonde hair, blue eye) race. He merely wished to sift through the people he didn\'t want in Germany any longer. You can\'t predict and make assumptions about the "what ifs" in the past.

First off; I am against religion as well. It has become infested with politics and people striving to obtain their own selfish desires. Let me explain a bit more on what I believe...
I\'m a Christian. I believe in my own personal relationship with God. I attend church every Sunday to worship and fellowship with others like me, who have their own personal relationships with God, or wish to acquire one.
That\'s it.
I do not, and never have, inflicted my beliefs upon anybody else, nor have I put someone down or insulted them for believing anything different than I. If someone wishes to learn about my faith, and what I have, then I will gladly tell them. Furthermore, in no shape or form am I a saint, and perfect. I sin, even on a daily basis, it\'s human nature as you even stated. Lastly, I don\'t think I\'m on higher or more holy than you either, I just feel I\'m more priviledged.
Sadly you\'re right, religion is often used as a tool. However don\'t ignore the great things it has done. I have seen it feed the poor, strengthen the weak, give hope to the hopeless, and help the helpless.
Also; you know you are basing your entire belief system on a book that is several thousand years old? I am basing mine on things that are uncovered every day.
That book is proven to be just as accurate as any science textbook found in your classroom. They\'re called the Dead Sea Scrolls buddy, and they weren\'t written as a children\'s story book, they\'re historically recorded documents. Every prophecy in the Old Testament has been fullfilled in the New Testament... Only thing that has yet to happen is Jesus\' return.
What things are you talking about that are uncovered everyday? Evolution? That has yet to be proven. And if you\'re so persistent on believing only what you see, how is it that you can be satisfied with your teacher showing you a picture of an electron and say it exists, yet you have never seen it? Yet you believe in it, correct?
-
But if I read a book that said someone saw a electron 2000 years ago but no one has seen one since,I would have trouble believing that to.
Why don\'t we get to see oceans parted, sticks turning to snakes and rivers turning to blood. All we get is an evil generation requires proof?
Also what was the deal before god died for our sins, did all the people before that go to hell?
Just some questions I was curious about.
-
What events are proven from the Old Testament in the New Testament? What is the time difference between these two? and how were they found? Was the entire Bible found just like it is today or was it piece by piece and if it was who put it together?
If you give me answers that are proven other than "it\'s in the bible" and "even science said those cities burned" then we\'ll have something to debate about.
Even so, I believe that religions are the answers to questions. If the world had started with all the technology we have today, we wouln\'t have a Bible. People had questions, the Bible had answers. Where they true? Where they believable? Nobody cared because by the time they were proven not true too many people all over the world had already chosen to believe the Bible.
"But ... nobody who reads the entire Bible can argue that it\'s anything but insane. Books violently contradict books, brutality is generally rewarded, cruelty to humans is a joke between God (who "dwells in the thick darkness") and the Devil, women are animals, slaves are barely animals, some dudes screw 1,000 maidens and are rewarded while others (women) get stoned to death for not being virgins, rabbits are thought to "chew the cud," people have no right to liberty, the Christmas tree is erected by weirdos "altogether brutish and foolish," women can\'t wear gold to church, handicapped people aren\'t allowed in church, children guilty of pranks are eaten by bears, the foreskins of 200 slaughtered Philistines are a good price for a wife, a virgin daughter is a good sacrifice to the Lord, bats are "birds," God is no match when it comes to iron carts although God "creates" evil, rebellious children should be stoned to death ....
Horrid, isn\'t it? The Old Testament

Also the believe that the U.S. was founded by Christianity. Yes, it was founded by Christians, except for a few of them, but it was not founded by Christianity. People can\'t say "why do you call it "holidays" when it\'s "Christmas"..." The truth is the Government has nothing to do with religion. Isn\'t that why the settlers came from Europe in the first place? To be able to practice their religion? They founded this country so that no other people have to suffer with kings, queens, and all the future govermental leaders. Christians, by claiming that this country is "Christian" and it was founded by "Christian believes" are denying the very purpose of why the forefathers came to this land on the first place.
Like I stated before, if God truly is omnipotent, did he know that evil was going to come and let it happen? Or did he meant for it to happen? Didn\'t he know Eve was going to eat the damn apple?

Why don\'t we get to see oceans parted, sticks turning to snakes and rivers turning to blood. All we get is an evil generation requires proof?

Because God\'s plan had yet to be fulfilled... All of that took place in the Old Testament (before Jesus). And if you required proof, and you needed this "solid" evidence, it wouldn\'t be faith anymore now would it?
Also what was the deal before god died for our sins, did all the people before that go to hell?
Jesus died for our sins, God only sent him. There has always been a heaven and hell.

Haha... I can list like fifty, but I\'ll do the ones off of the top of my head. I\'ll do a few with the bible scripture, written before the event occurred. If you want more I\'ll gladly flip through the ol\' Bible and find some for you.
The most documented Biblical event is the world-wide flood described in Genesis 6-9. A number of Babylonian documents have been discovered which describe the same flood.
1. God would send his salvation to the earth
"It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."
2. Ninevites would be drunk in their final hours
They will be entangled among thorns and drunk from their wine; they will be consumed like dry stubble.
3. Nineveh would be destroyed by fire
There the fire will devour you; the sword will cut you down and, like grasshoppers, consume you…
4. Babylon would rule Judah for 70 years
This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years. But when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation, the land of the Babylonians, for their guilt," declares the Lord, "and will make it desolate forever
5. Edom would be toppled and humbled
The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle\'s, from there I will bring you down," declares the Lord.
Dang I knew more, but I don\'t remember where they were in the bible off of the top of my head so go here (http://100prophecies.org/page8.htm) for over 100 prophecies proven true.
What is the time difference between these two?[/b]
I\'m not sure exactly....\'ll try and find out exact dates... The New Testament begins once Jesus is born, therefore you can look at the Old Testament as B.C. and the New Testament as A.D.
and how were they found?
[/b]
The Old Testament is a compilation of scrolls and writings, where the New Testament are like recordings by Jesus\' apostles.
Was the entire Bible found just like it is today or was it piece by piece and if it was who put it together?[/b]
Because it is a collection of books, it was pieced together chronologically. Genesis - Revelations... Dunno who did it exactly, regardless it is insignificant.
If you give me answers that are proven other than "it\'s in the bible" and "even science said those cities burned" then we\'ll have something to debate about.[/b]
Hah... well if I can\'t prove it with religion or science then what ground have you left me? All I have to say is that if you conduct a little research you\'ll find out how incredibly accurate the bible is.
[/b]
I disagree. My first question would be, "How the heck did all this technology get here?"... And then of course I would wonder , "Why am I here?"... That is the main question that encompasses the great "religious debate". People aren\'t continuing to abide by the Bible because of tradition, I\'m a perfect example. My family is a casual Catholic, "don\'t go to church - but pray at dinner- family" that didn\'t really care about any of this. I chose on my own to seek God; I have always believed in him.
"But ... nobody who reads the entire Bible can argue that it\'s anything but insane. Books violently contradict books, brutality is generally rewarded, cruelty to humans is a joke between God (who "dwells in the thick darkness") and the Devil, women are animals, slaves are barely animals, some dudes screw 1,000 maidens and are rewarded while others (women) get stoned to death for not being virgins, rabbits are thought to "chew the cud," people have no right to liberty, the Christmas tree is erected by weirdos "altogether brutish and foolish," women can\'t wear gold to church, handicapped people aren\'t allowed in church, children guilty of pranks are eaten by bears, the foreskins of 200 slaughtered Philistines are a good price for a wife, a virgin daughter is a good sacrifice to the Lord, bats are "birds," God is no match when it comes to iron carts although God "creates" evil, rebellious children should be stoned to death

[/b]
KenLayne.com? This guy obviously has no feasible clue about the Bible. Everything he mentioned occured in the old testament, and he really doesn\'t make a point. The Old Testament is during the construction of God\'s plan, which isn\'t fulfilled until Jesus saves us... That is why so much crap like that went down in the Old Testament, because our sins would go unforgiven.
Christians, by claiming that this country is "Christian" and it was founded by "Christian believes" are denying the very purpose of why the forefathers came to this land on the first place.
[/b]
First off, I agree that it should be called Happy Holidays because I would be bothered if I had to see "Happy Channukah" and "Happy Kwanzaa" everywhere... Thats another thing that bothers me, when Christians get upset cuz people have replaced Merry Christmas into Happy Holidays... I believe that we should quit being such pricks and nitpick at everything, and just know what Happy Holidays means to us.
And yes, they did (The Puritans) arrive here to escape religous persecution. However your argument isn\'t valid any longer because no one today is being persecuted because of their religion now (well, slightly, but not to the magnitude of the 17th century Puritans). You can\'t argue that this country was founded on Christian morals and ideals (although the Puritans greatly embellished many of them). Even our founding fathers were Christians who truly believed this was a country of God.
What I find sad is parents that have a problem with their son or daughter saying "under God" in the pledge of allegiance... That is just the saddest thing I have ever heard... This country is under God, created on the institutions of Christian ideals, and if you don\'t like tradition, then maybe you should pack your bags and tell me how the weather is in Canada.
Like I stated before, if God truly is omnipotent, did he know that evil was going to come and let it happen? Or did he meant for it to happen? Didn\'t he know Eve was going to eat the damn apple? [/B]
1. There is no such thing as evil, it is only the absence of good. Just as there is no such thing as dark, that is merely the absence of light.
2. He knew Eve was going to eat the apple. He knew that his creation would be disobedient and sinful. He was right.

Exactly why it will never happen. :)

Christians will often use prophecy fulfillment as proof of the Bibles divine origins. The Bible will predict a vague future event then at a later point in time the Bible will give an account of this event actually happening.
In many cases, this is an obvious trick. I can write a holy book that predicts a vague future event, then later on in my book I can write another story that fulfills the prophecy of the event.
Conversely, I can wait for an interesting event then add the prophesy of the event to my scripture so that the prophecy really matches up with a real event.
Alternatively, there are self fulfilling prophecies. Everyone, knew what the prophecies were, so any one could turn up and say "Hi, I\'m the Messiah and I\'m from Nazareth as stated in the prophecy". No one with the slightest bit of common sense is going to say "Hi, I\'m the Messiah and I\'m from Damascus". Because that is clearly not in accordance with prophecy. If the guy really does come from Nazareth, it would add credence to his claim. However, it is a self fulfilling prophecy and is wide open to the simplest fraud.
There is a much more impressive demonstration of prophesy:-
I could move into the prophecy business with a small team of fellow prophets. We start writing prophecies, hundreds of them a day. Prophecies about nations, political leaders, great events, etc. We write them all on separate sheets of paper and get them all independently witnessed. I could make 100 prophecies all on the future of the Jewish state or what will happen in Iraq. Within a couple of months my team of prophets could easily generate 10,000 prophecies.
We then sit and wait a few years.
After a few years we analyse world events and match them up to any suitable prophecies. If we make our prophecies too specific, there may be 90% of our prophecies will be totally wrong or we may not be able to find a suitable world event that matches a particular prophecy. These prophecies are rejected and burned. If we make our prophecies quite vague but with descriptions that can be re-interpreted, we will get a much higher hit rate, maybe 30%.
Of this 30% I would say that 15% would be a a reasonable match to some event with a little interpretation of the prophecy. 10% would be accurate to the point where people could, with a little thought, could recognise the event predicted by the prophecy. The top 5% would be very accurate and immediately recognisable.
So, we take the top 5% and maybe the best of the reasonably accurate prophecies and publish them in a book. The rest are discarded. We could call the book "Sinbad\'s 1000 fulfilled prophecies". Even if we only pick the top 1% predictions, we still have a book with 100 amazingly accurate prophecies.
This is very similar to how the Bible came to have prophecies that appear to have been fulfilled. The people of the day were very keen on prophecy, soothsaying, dream interpretation, horoscopes etc. There was undoubtedly a large amount of prophetic material around. When the scriptures were being scrutinised for canonisation, the editors and theologians would cherry pick all the prophecies that matched up with current dogma. Anything that didn\'t match would not get through the canonisation process. Who in there right mind would include a prophecy in their holy book that was known to be inaccurate? Of course all these failed prophecies would not make it into the Bible. Any prophecy with a good match would be automatically included.
Obviously, open ended prophecies could be included because sooner or later an event will occur that will roughly match the prophecy. If nothing turns up within a few hundred years, the prophecy is just left open on the grounds that it has yet to be fulfilled.
You can\'t use Bible time because of the simple fact that you don\'t know when these scriptures were written. The Bible tells you it was before Jesus, yet by saying that the Bible says, you are implying that it is right, therefore the prophecies are invalid until the date when the Old Testament was written in known.
"When was the Bible written?
The Bible was not written in one specific year or in a single location. The Bible is a collection of writings, and the earliest ones were set down nearly 3500 years ago. So let\'s start at the beginning of this fascinating story.
The first five books of the Bible are attributed to Moses and are commonly called the Pentateuch (literally "five scrolls").
Moses lived between 1500 and 1300 BC, though he recounts events in the first eleven chapters of the Bible that occurred long before his time (such as the creation and the flood).
These earliest accounts were handed on from generation to generation in songs, narratives, and poetry.
In those early societies there was no writing as yet and people passed on these oral accounts with great detail and accuracy.
"

Orally and Poetically...thats a good way to remember everything just like it happened.
Why did you "seek" God?
So I guess God is not as powerful as the thinks, I mean if he lets his creation sin. Who he seems to have set up. "Don\'t eat from this tree" ..." you ate from it you will be a sinner forever" Also the "there is no evil, its the abcense of good" is like the "is the glass half empty or half full" Evil=sins=hell. Where did hell come from? God allowed it to be created it.

I know of these two cities, Gerroa or something that the Bible said they would "burn" or something. It came true.
Scientist discovered that they were right along a fault line...
Like I said, nobody knows when all these things were written. I could write a prophecy right now:
"A bird of metal will come from the sky, God almighty will release his wrath upon the sinners, and the sinners home, will become the sinners grave"
There...
And Giga...you\'ll be surprised.
