Title: Extended Editions
Post by: Seed_Of_Evil on December 21, 2003, 06:51:15 AM
You will think that I\'m a fool, but I must repeat that I\'m really shocked with The Return of the King. The battles and the epic flavor of the movie have impressed me so much. It\'s much better than The Fellowship and Two Towers (I\'m not saying that those both are bad).

I\'ve standard editions of Fellowship and Two Towers, but after watching the great ending of the trilogy I\'m thinking on buying the extended editions, but dunno if I should go for them right now or wait till the ROTK EE comes out... do u know if there is planned any special pack of EE with the 12 dvds?

What do I do?

If you don\'t already own the EE\'s, you\'re not a fan. ROTK had a few things that one would need to watch the EE\'s to get (pipeweed, Merry and Pippin being taller..etc) .

One hour and 5 mintues was cut from ROTK.

ROTK was 3: 28 mintues long.
Eight mintues of that was credits.

Which means, the final version of ROTK will be..

4 hours and 33 mintues - but that does not include the extended credits that will feature fan club stuff, etc...You\'re looking at almost five hours for the final verision, including credits..etc

Most DVD\'s fans are expecting ROTK to be five discs, instead of four.

I will personally own both versions like I do with TTT (only have the EE of FOTR ).

I was thinking the same thing, I\'ve got the first two standard DVDs because my mum bought them, I was wondering whether to buy the EE\'s or wait for a super trilogy type thingy

That\'s was my point... but I guess it\'s already very soon to speak about a super EE pack... I\'ll buy the available ones :p

Will there eventually be a huge combo? Most likely , it\'ll be a long way down the road though.

Take in account how much all three EE\'s packed together would cost.

Honestly, I see no reason to wait. If you are truly a fan, you\'ll want the extra footage. Instead of waiting for ROTK:EE to come out (fall of next year) and then waiting for a possible set of EE\'s together.

Why wait? There\'s no good reason. You can either spend the money slowly (right now) or spend a bunch all at once as a possible for all the EE\'s together.

Living, you\'re right, I\'m definitely buying the two EEs available: 80€. How much are they in the USA? (Here €39.90 each)

I think I paid right around $40 for each one.  They are worth it though as the added footage really helps flesh out the story with the indivual movie and setting up the next one (esp: TTT relating to ROTK).  Not to mentiona ll the extra\'s.

The worst side of these extended versions is the change of disk in the middle of the "session". I can\'t think in a double change if ROTK has 3 dvds...

BTW, do u imagine the 3 extended movies + extra footage in a single disk and with 10x resolution than current dvds? /me glimpses to Sony\'s blue laser.

"The new blue laser optical disc drive and media will meet the capacity needs of storage users who have outgrown the 9.1 GB magneto-optical (MO) per disc capacity offered in the market today," said Rick Thong, marketing manager for storage solutions at Sony Electronics in San Jose, Calif. "In addition to offering more than twice the capacity in the same drive form-factor, the new drive and media also bring fast access times to customers who demand a high performance solution for quickly accessing and transferring files."

Several suppliers have already expressed interest in the new drive and media. Looking to the future, Thong said that Sony hopes to bring a second-generation drive and media to the market by 2005 that will feature 50 GB of capacity with a transfer rate of 18 MB/sec. He then expects this to be followed by a third-generation drive and media featuring 100 GB of capacity with a transfer rate of 36 MB/sec. Having pursued open alliances with many suppliers within the industry over the years, Sony will continuously strive to maintain its leadership position in the optical disc business.

Evaluation units of the new internal blue laser optical drive (model BW-F101) and media (rewritable PDDRW23 and write-once PDDWO23) are expected to start shipping to OEMs this summer for around $3,000 per drive and around $45 per disc. Both an external drive and a Sony-branded version of the drive are expected to be brought to the market before the end of the year.

I\'d like to get the EE of the LOTR but don\'t have the money right now. Eventually, I\'d like to get them. I just saw TTT yesterday so I can see ROTK when I get a chance. I never got into the LOTR craze but really enjoy the movies.

Havent read all the posts here; but one note.

You know after ROTK is released, a while after they are gonna make super directors cut edition, and super directors cut unsensored, and the box and all that junk.

Im just saving up for the big shibang, instead of buying everything more expensively at once.

Unless your hardcore, you\'ll own every version.

If you like extra scenes and you like LOTR you will fall in love with the EE\'s.  My friend has them and they are well worth the cash.  It\'s what a collector\'s DVD should be.

Highly unlikely, as all the extra\'s that have been filmed was on the on the current EE\'s - not to mention footage. PJ has said this will be the last version.

You know alot about movies, and Im guessing your just denying it.

They are going to to try to suck this movie dry to the last penny they can get their grubby hands on.

Trust me.

I\'m guessing the next version of any LOTR movie will be on Blu-ray.  T2 still holds the crown with 4 separate releases, all on DVD.  I don\'t see them getting much nerdier than the extended editions.  It\'s about as loaded as a release can get..

Extended Editions are one way to appease those who\'ve read the books. The Two Towers, the theatrical version, was missing large chunks of the story. When they released the EE, it became a more complete and somewhat DIFFERENT movie. And by different, I mean it was BETTER.

Two Towers in extended edtion is worth the extra $12 over the theatrical version.

If you\'re a fan you don\'t wanna wait for a possible super duper release. I know I couldn\'t, so I own the EE versions of both FOTR and TTT. Gonna get the EE of ROTK as soon as it\'s available. :)
