Bad news dudes. Playstation, PSX, PSOne or whatever you wanna call it, has already dead. Sony has stopped the production of the most successful console in history. That means that once shops finish its stock after Christmas, no one will see again the white for sale.
Thanx to Sony and all those videogame companies that have allowed us to enjoy beautiful and funny moments with PSone.
This is the end of 32-bits era. Rest in peace. (extracted from vandal).

Dude, PS2 still plays PS1 games. I think PS1 games will be around for a while yet.

that\'s not the point!
it\'s meant symbolically (I think), cause ps1 was the last remaining 32bit-era console....
-
Let us think what the PS1 brought us...it brought us the 1st GTA, then Driver, the RE series, FF, and what about Metal Gear Solid? Sad to see it go but I think we\'ll get over it.
-
Its the end of an era. It truely was a milestone system. *salutes Sony*
-
*WUUUHAAAAAAAAA* NO... NOO... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
:p
-
well, here\'s to 8 crazey years!

God speed little fella :(

Indeed. I\'ll miss your white shell....The times we played arcade perfect versions of the VS series..Radiant Silvergun...Beautiful 2D platformers..Eh?
You mean this thread wasnt about the OTHER 32 bit system? The Saturn?
Damnit.

All good things must come to an end.

Remember flipping that pos upside down? ;) People still wonder how they managed to do it but they successfully put Nintendo and Sega in their place even though it was their first system. Can\'t imagine anyone else except Sony doing something like that. It was the system for the people, not for Sony, not for the parents. Good job for changing the industry. :thumb:

Ah, the beautiful greyness. So versatile (sp?). The possibilities of the ps were limitless. I enjoyed having so many ports for everything i didnt need. VCD and TV player, and all that good stuff.
Even the loading sounds are music to my ears. Screw that PSone bullshit. Its funny how the 64 bit era ended so much faster than the 32 bit era. Saturn was another great console.
Staying on topic, ill miss the fact that the 32 bit era was here not so long ago but ill bust out the old PS and play some Ultimate Battle 22 one day.
R.I.P.

It could be due to the fact there was only really two 64 bit consoles. Neo-Geo, which was highly priced and never hit the mainstream market and the N64 which was cartridge based , thus hurting it.. Yeah, that could be why the so-called 64-bit era (which there was never really one) died faster.
Please, don\'t bring up the Jaguar..As Atari use to say, "do the math".
-
Sad indeed, it housed imo the greatest Castlevania of all Symphony of the night.
-
I heard once the PS3 comes out...no more PS1 game will be made, then it will truly be dead...

Well NSS. I was just pointing out the fact. And i wouldnt say Jag because it was two 32 bit processors :p. I know what im talking about. There is no need to provide the facts for me ;). Psh i have one (and no i didnt pay for it).
All valid points. But if the N64 was truely better then it could have survived almost this long. Of course it logically wouldnt and so it didnt.

(1) I also have a Jaguar and I did pay for it. :D
(2) The N64 was doomed. Spec wise, it was superior, as was the Saturn. Infact, Psone was the worst of all consoles, spec wise, however the cartridge format killed N64 and Sega\'s sketchy past and lack of American support hurt them. Not to mention a surprise launch.
If anything, the Psone did nothing \'cept capatalize on the other two companies mistakes. The N64 was delayed constantly, was cartridge based , so developers didn\'t want to develop for it. The Saturn had a surprise launch, Sega\'s sketchy past and was hard to develop for.. Where else was developers going to go ?
In my opinion, Sony really done nothing to get so succesful. It was a matter of developers not having any other viable platform to develop for. So what did they do? They went with a product that had a brand name and decent advirtisements (if not overly sexual, or so \'Sophia Says\').
This may sound like I am not giving credit to Sony and I guess I\'m not. I am not though, saying that the Psone was not a good console. It was and it provided me with pleny of great games (namely CastleVania: SOTN - a game that oddly enough Sony did not want to happen at first due to its 2D nature).
-
I guess thats pretty much right. Although the saturn had a fairly large impact in Japan which was at least nice to see. Importing was a pain at times though. I didnt remember how Saturn was hard to dev. for. I remember seeing the specs and i didnt remember how they faired against the ps1.
I know the ps1 was like a 33MHz RISC processor and all that and i remember how the saturn was generally a performer when it came to 2d (most commonly fighters). But like i was saying i dont remember all that right now.
Eventhough the 64 was cartridge based it did have some pretty decent things to offer. The pricing was part of it not doing as well too, while not contributing as much as other things. I play almost all my systems on a semi regular basis except my jag, 3D0, Master System and some others. PS(1&2), N64, Genesis, SNES, NES and Turbo GraFX 16 (not a lot) are in a decent rotation if i can call it that.
Anyway, the surprise launch was definately a poor move on segas part. Its sad to see such a good company step down a notch just due to simple marketing, business strategy problems etc.
Oh and if you are ever bored, bring up some Saturn specs ;) heh.

Mmm\'hmm.
Arcade perfect translations.
Yet another reason the PSone sucked.,
-
I\'ll never forget those days wasted after football practice where we would break out the Playstation and play hours of Goldeneye, Revenge, and Mario Kart. 4-player split screen was off the hizzle.
-
It was a great console and still is one of the greats of our generation. The PS1 will be long remembered as the console that changed the way we look at gaming.

Sucked? Never. Eh, to each his own.
I just realized that the RISC processor in the Sat was slower than that of the RISC in the Ps. Still i dont remember how much ram the ps had. Meh.
This is getting old

Goodbye little fella....
If it wan\'t for you i might of ened up buying a saturn or worse still a X box.

Yeah, thank god for Sony.

He meant the fall of gaming because Sony sold on word of mouth, not by the games themselves. Thus, good systems and great games not getting a chance to really shine.

As sad as it is, its true.

Best console ever...........
I think it will be looked back on like we look back on the NES.
-
Good riddance. All it did was overshadow the best console ever created... The Nintendo 64.

wtf, when games became popular? idiots played them.... wtf are u smoking man. Without psx, there wouldn\'t be ps2, or even the competition that’s out there now.. Sure a lot of good gaming consoles suffered from the psx, but its not because psx was crap. It was because it was good, there were many great games, and there were many shit games. But the good to the bad outweigh each other, N64 on the other hand, had more crap titles then it did good.. Thats why it got the kiddy title, it ended up a lame console. Saturn and Dreamcast on the other hand were completely underminded and were great consoles. I myself own a dc and play it more then my ps2, but i still don\'t blame psx for its demise... Nintendo screwed up making n64 a cart system, When they were in works with sony making a cd based system. sega didn\'t bother to advertise their systems. I didn\'t see 1 single dc advert here. Sony didn\'t make the mistakes they did, they used a better medium (compared to nintendo) and advertised their system (compared to sega) They were SMART about it.
Neo-Geo, which was highly priced and never hit the mainstream market and the N64 which was cartridge
Neogeo isn\'t a 64bit system man, it\'s a 16bit system. It did hit the mainstream, but the otherpriced carts is what killed it. The carts even carry the arcade data.
Not to be a prick, but next time try not talking out of your ass. Get your facts correct before sprouting this crap. :)
The only 64 system that snk/neogeo have released were Hyper Neo·Geo 64 arcades. Which aren\'t consoles. You can buy them here (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/hyper_neo_64.html)
They\'re now owned by playmore, which seem to be screwing every new release they have made.. Mslug5 is alright though, Snk vs Cap isn\'t to bad, but Samurai Shodown 5 sucks.
-
It had Blood Omen and Symphony of the Night.
It was a damn fine system.

I don\'t know what to call you all.... oh, wait. One word comes to mind....

There were a lot of great games on PSX. Heck, GT series got more adult men to buy the system than any other game out there. It\'s now not uncommon for car magazines to have a game review on racing games, thanks to Gran Turismo. And then there\'s RE way back in 1996 (or was it \'97?). Come on, it\'s not like the other systems didn\'t get their day in the sun. They got plenty of press too.
You should blame Sega, master of bad business decisions for shooting itself. Then there\'s Nintendo, some great games but it had decided not to shed its romper room image.

Yeah i mean thats what the game industry needed.... MORE Consumers
lets face it the industry is in a piss poor state and without the casual gamers that the PSX brought to the table it would of been in a worse state by now.
So i for one say thank god for the casual gamer and their impusle buying :).
