Title: Somebody tell me what my friend is smoking!
Post by: PSX_J on December 31, 2003, 10:22:02 AM
He claims that Sony is going to buy out the Xbox and Nintendo.  I would just like to see that happen. Despite losing a hella lot of money on tha Xbox and falling way behind the PS2 in the console race, Microsoft would still be to stubborn to give up it\'s prized gaming console.

The Nintendo bit is a little more believable...seems like they\'re living off of their handhelds at the moment, but with a company that has owned the market for so many years in the past I couldnt picture them going down without a fight to the finish.

Anyway...my friends a moron, but have they\'re actually been rumors of this crap going around?

No, not that I\'m aware of.  Nintendo is still huge with its handheld market and Microsoft threw too much money into Xbox for it to stop now.

With the price cut, November was Gamecube\'s best month.  It outsold PS2 that month for the first time (unless launch outsold PS2, but I don\'t think it did).

Nintendo isn\'t in a position to sell anything.

Oh and to answer you\'re question, he\'s not smoking anything. He\'s just stupid. ;]

Well, since he IS just asking if there are rumours like this going around in the videogames industry ; YES.

The (respected) videogame magazine I read has a little feature every month called \'Insider\' (Not IGN "insider") ; it features faqs, rumours and vents by real industry insiders who of course stay
anonymous within that text. This month did indeed have the rumour of plans of Sony teaming up with Nintendo. Spicy detail was that a certain Shigeru Miyamoto might gonna do sumthin big for/at/via Sony\'s PSP. He also said that N5 (specs or controlpad design) might partially end up into the PS3 specs. This rumour makes quite some sense imo if the Japanese want to form one big block against MS.

Again, i\'m not saying this IS true nor do I give/have an opinion about it (yet) ; but it\'s a fact that such a rumour is existent.

Yeah, Nintendo is making a lot money off GameCube, thereby reducing chances of a buy-out by 100%. They\'re not Sega.

I would actually like to see Nintendo and PS2 team up and drive out MS. Then it would be back to Nintendo vs. Sony :) Then again, this would never happen ;)

Actually, it is true. The announcement is expected at the next E3. Nintendo will leave the console business and become a 2nd party developer for Sony.

Where have you all been?

I expect this forum to keep me up to date with gaming current events.  Looks like somebody dropped the ball on that one...

Heh, that\'s because he just made it up.

Nintendo is not selling out, going 2nd party, going 3rd party, teaming with Sony, developing with Sony, or announcing any of that at E3.

And that magazine completely made up that "rumor" just because they knew they were going to call it a rumor so it didn\'t neccesarily have to be true.

I\'ll just throw my 2 cents in, even if somebody\'s already said it.

A. Sony can\'t buy Nintendo.

B. Sony can\'t buy Microsoft.

They can\'t afford either.

Okay, I\'m done.

Nintendo is a joke. Microsoft is a joke. The only real game company is sony. The others are just lookers on as the sony train keeps on rolling on. They all should quit and just make games for sony it would make more sense.

Playstation4life
or
until the next sega console

Knotter: Yes, and there are still people out there who haven\'t seen Star Wars.. :)

People wouldn\'t complain if the PS2 wasn\'t so consistently faulty compared to the competition.

It doesn\'t mean that every PS2 is buggy, but if over 5% of all PS2\'s have problems.. that\'s too much.

A funny(?) thing I noticed while surfing a other forum yesterday, was the big amount of people having problems with their Xboxes.. They called it the "dirty disc syndrome" .. Another thing that seems quite common with Xboxes is the harddrive failing, or problems with the A/V port..

The only problem I\'ve heard people having with the GameCube is that the Open Lid button often gets stuck.. But that’s about it.

GameCube is built very well... I\'ve never had any problem with mine. My PS2 also feels quite solid, and its getting pretty old now (pushing 3 years?), still not a single Disk Read Error problem, I hope it stays that way. :)

About the "huge" amount of people saying PS2 is faulty, remember that PS2 is owned by 10x the people compared to GC/XB, and that people usually don’t make threads saying "My PS2 is working fine, just wanted to let you know".. So the problem probably seems bigger than it actually is. :)

Are those 5% an actual official number or something you just made up?

I\'m asking because I don\'t know anyone (myself included of course) that has had any problems with their PS2\'s whatsoever.

I think all the consoles are well-built this generation. Haven\'t experienced anything bad with either one of them. In fact, I\'ve never had any problems with any console I\'ve owned.

JP: Ugh. Maybe I mixed in the PS1\'s numbers for faultiness or something.

I\'ve heard a lot of stories about disc read errors and having to turn your PS2 on its side in order for it to work. While the games will still play without consulting a system repair shop.. that\'s not acceptable.

It probably only happens to 1-5% of PS2\'s though, so really.. concern isn\'t warranted.

I sometimes get the "Disc Read Error", but that is usually because the disc is scratch bad, or dirty.  So, what did i do?  I clean the dirty disc and put it back and it play fine.

On video games, i do get the "Disc Read Error".  but that usually from psx games that i set the disc reading speed to fast and/or texture to smooth that make the game frooze.

But usually i get the disc read error from either the disc is dirty or the len is dirty.  If the len is dirty, i simply just clean it with a disc cleaner and it plays fine again.

Or sometimes ps2 justing up.  So, i just eject the disc and close the tray again and it read it disc.

and I find the NES a pretty good console.  With simple lightweight remote control and durablity of it.  So is the SNES, my SNES is still working today but my brother gave it away to my nephew/nieces.  I love the SNES remote control too.

I get the disc read error most of the time, and all my software is in mint condition.

It seems my PS2 has chosen a bunch of games it won\'t run, and a bunch that it will sometimes run, and a bunch it will always run. \'tis weird.

I play the PC more than anything now, so I don\'t know how you magically assumed I loved Pokemon games. I\'ve only played one GameCube game within the past year compared to about 10 pc games so yeah I guessed I\'m a little biasy(not a word retard :(), but not towards Cube.

So you assume that what you said actually offended me.  "Oh please mister who gives a f**k that lives thousands of miles away, dont make fun of me" Dude you must get stepped all over in your everyday life because you come onto a message board actually believing you can bully someone who could even give a crap who you are much less how you feel about them.

Do answer me this though? I\'ve been a not so frequent visitor of this boards since about 1999 or 2000...my name change wouldnt support that but thats beside the point.  I dont come here to boast, I dont come here to start a fire in anybodys head, Im just here to enjoy what people have to say about one topic or another from time to time.  I\'ll occasionally throw in a discussion here or there just so others can express they\'re ligitamate thoughts to me. You had no real basis to wage war on me, the only possiblility could be that you are a dumba** who thought it would be cool to mess with someone you dont even know.  All this really brings me to this....

My feelings are spared mind you, but dont but into my threads just to bring down the quality of them. --Thankyou.

P.S. If you have a real excuse for your obnoxious behaviour p.m. me instead of writing it in this thread. Im pretty sure we\'ve about already caused this thing to get closed.

Seems like a hit a nerve with someone who couldn\'t give a crap about who am I.

Seriously, am I the one throwing around real life insults? You\'re an idiot, that\'s a giving. Then you say stuff like am I get stepped on? No, can\'t have your cake and eat it too(or something along those lines, I always thought you were supposed to eat cake).

I\'m simply having fun in poking fun at you, like most members do to each other, you were the one who took it seriously. I guess we\'re all getting stepped on in real life? Aren\'t you the one in 99 in the old-school chat who was CONSTANTLY annoying me with uncalled for real life insults which came out of no where? Say hypocrite and stfu please.

Hey I overeact about things but who doesnt.  I really felt like I was searching for answers and I thought my intellegence was being stepped on a bit with ur comment.  But all you had to say when I first responded to you is that you didnt mean it intentionally.

As for you comment about me throwing insults at you a few years back, Im not sure but I wont doubt the possibility. I was 14 or 15 at the time witout a clue. I\'ve since then grown up and when I do stop by I try to veer from unesscery bickering. (well todays not the prime example of that)

I was actually wondering if you were just yanking my chain like all the other members do to eachother around here, but I am such a foregnier to this place now it\'s impossible to figure out if someone is just messing with ya or is trying to get you riled up.

Oh and that one bit, my first intention was for it to be a question but it turned more into a statement.
