If I were a rich man . . .

The Chevy SSR

The New Vette

and of course the new Mustang.

I never looked at that way but I guess I do. :) I\'m not a hater of foreign cars, though.

I\'m really looking forward to the C6, and I appreciate the Mustang, but the SSR...

To me that\'s just a big fat assed marketing ploy.  87 octane burning V8 producing 300 hp through a 4 speed automatic, with a total vehicle weight of 4760 pounds.  That is not a sporty vehicle, and it looks ridiculous as well.

Why does everyone forget the GT40? :(

The SSR should have the LS-6 or a V10. ;)

As far as the SSR goes, I like that some companies are taking a chance on design and I think it looks sweet.

GT40 is not forgotten. It\'s just that it is a little out of my price range. :)

I\'ve seen the SSR on the street already.  A local car dealer that comes to where I work every day drove one for a day then switched back to his Vette.

I\'m not too keen on the GT40. Looks a wee bit silly to me. :)

Sam, one of the hosts of my show, gets media cars all of the time.  He had an SSR a couple months ago.  He wasn\'t impressed at all.  And the price tag is way up there.  Like 50 something thousand for a truck.

all nice whips..i like how the mustang has that old school look to it,..reminds me of the old hot wheels stang i collected growin\' up. anyway i\'m not really big on american cars but is there a new viper comin out? i know it\'s right up there with the vette as far as horsepower i think..have they changed the styling?

Vipers always sport more horseys than the vettes (V10 vs V8), but they are also $30k more.  The Venom versions have some 650hp and are 10-second cars.    And they sound grrrrreat!

Haha, it\'s quite the other way around. Daimler-Benz bought Chrysler.

I was under the impression Daimler-Chrysler is one entity, though Daimler has a 51% share of the company, meaning they hold control.  Things may have changed since then though.

Actually I think you\'re correct. I couldn\'t quite remember the details, but I know the people in Stuttgart are wearing the pants in that relationship if you know what I mean. ;)

And thank god for that.  It means we will be seeing cars with good german drivetrains but lousy american styling, like the Chrysler Crossfire.  I was still trying to figure out where Celine Dion fit into the forumula, when they thankfully pulled the plug on that ad campaign.  Chrysler is a useless company.  They should just sell rebadged Mercedes and be done with it.

Isn\'t the Maybach a Chrysler?  Not a benz?

I don\'t know, I had mixed feelings.  It looked good from some angles but overall it is kind of ugly.  It does get a lot attention though.  He parks in the handicap spots so as everybody walked up they were looking at it, foggin\' up the windows peaking inside.

Here\'s the deal on the Mustang GT.

0-60 5.2Sec

1/4 mile 13.90 @ 104.00

Base Price $26,900

I wish it were a bit less money but still a lot for the price.

i\'d say at least somewhere in the 22-23 thousand range. but what i can\'t understand is why some of these 4 cyl cars are like 20 something thou. like the matrix? it\'s a nice little whip but over twenty for that thing?

oh one more thing. is the gt a v-6 or 8? that could be why it\'s kinda high ;)

not to turn this into a stang thread but my friend has this stang i forget what year & he modded the crap out of it. i don\'t even think it\'s street legal it had small tires in front & big ones in the back. he stated it was barley street legal, i didn\'t think so but anyway it was a 5.0. now that\'s not what\'s in the new mustang now right? back then i\'m guessing the 5.0\'s were v8\'s as well.

i know i\'m asking alot of questions but you seem to be the amercan car ethusiast (spell) ;)

Turning this into a Mustang thread was my evil intention. Bwhahahahahahaha!

Yes the 5.0 is a V8. This new Mustang is 4.6 three valve V8.

My friend has a lightly modded 87 5.0 and it\'s pretty quick.

That cabrio is nasty. As for the stang, its Japanese counterparts have the upper hand to me. All thats left for debate are the prices and the looks.
Subaru Sti : 0-60 in 4.6
Mitsu Evo : 0-60 in 5 flat

from car and driver.

There is also the history and heritage of the Mustang that appeals to me. The hard numbers are important but I factor other things into the mix.

Understandable.

The concept Camaro ZL1 was clocked on the 0-60 at 2.7!

You can get a Cobra for the price of a Subaru Sti and that does 0-60 in 4.2 so I wouldn\'t say the Jap imports have the upper hand.  You are right about that Cabrio - leave it to Swifdi to post a chick car.

But when they first introduced the new Maybach I could have sworn they introduced it as a Chrysler product.  I remember thinking why in the hell would they give it a chrysler name tag rather than a benz nametag if they are going to charge 350 grand for it.
