I hope others here share the same interest in reading as I do, as a vast amount of my time is spend doing so.
Anyway, my list of favorite authors/books.
Shogun - James Clavell ; Long one, but boy is it amazing, his finest work IMO.
Dean Koontz ; he is beginning to be my favorite author after reading some of his material. I suggest the Face of Fear, By The Light of the Moon, and False Memory. All thriller/horror.
Stephen King ; All good ol\' King.
Brian Jacques ; Some of his books are rather childish, in the sense its all animals. But they really are well written. He is mostly known for the Redwall series.
I have some others, and will probably list them after my memory is sparked by other members.

Give him a chance. I\'m skeptical also, but give him a chance.
As for mine..
Don\'t have one... I can\'t stand to read fiction.
:D

Although it\'s cliche at this point... J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
-
I have plans on reading the Lord of the Rings series. I saw the movies and want to see how the books are. As for my favorites.
I forget the authors on some so bear with me:
Fallen Angels-its a book about the Vietnam war
Death Be Not Proud- touching memoirs of a father dealing with his son\'s brain tumor. Pretty sad.
Breakfast of Champions- very strange book.
Catcher in the Rye- Salinger- about a kid growing up. Very funny.
All Quiet on the Western Front- about a group of boys that grew up together but now fighting together in WWI. I never finished it but plan to.
Enders Game- about a boy sent away to learn how to fight. Its science fiction and very good.
I like a lot of Edgar Allan Poes works, especially The Raven.

I am just playing around with (e). Not sure what Spudz does to give him a chance. (did he got banned and the mod unbanned him, but with his name change or something, if so what did he do that got him banned?)
I heard a guy that recommend the author Christopher Pike so I thought I should check out some of his books. I read The Graduation, the Dance, and the Party, a 3 books episodes to find out who is the killer. This book is pretty long since it come in 3 books, near the end of the third book, the main character finally found out who is the killer and how the killer done it without being noticed. without spoiling too much here, the killer killed this guy or girl (can\'t remember, been a while) during a party in a house. I believe it was a girl that got killed and her body was found in a restroom.
But probably the best books i read so far from Christopher Pike is The Last Act. Not that I read many books from Christopher Pike, but if you are into mystery novel/movie/etc. This book really stands out. It would be cool if this book is made into movie. The story is about some high school girl who one night doing a theater show with her friends, then one scene where she used a fake gun to shot the other person and somehow killed her. She was arrested for questioning and the police also asks the audiences in the theater what they see and how many gunshots they heard. Anyway, i won\'t spoil the story, but the killer is pretty clever on killing the other person without getting caught, but eventually the killer did get caught near the end of the story.
Another book to recommend is Remember Me from the same author. pretty good story too. This story is about a girl who one night while she was having a party in a house, she was standing in the balcony when someone push her over and she fall to her death. She turn into a ghost and she go looked for the killer and wants to know why killed her. Well, eventually, she finally find out who the killer is and how the killer managed to sneak away the party guests after pushing her over the balcony. Because there are people in the house, when i first read it, i couldn\'t get how the killer could manage to sneak away, its not like the killer jump over the balcony and run into the house or walk in without getting noticed. But finally near the end of story or so, i finally found out how the kiler did it. Pretty clever too.
Sorry for the long post, I am just a Mystery Genre hore.

No, Spudz was not banned. He said part of his new year resolution, was to change and change the impression he has left on all of us. Part of this change was a name change to (e).
With all that said, I\'ve been on a huge \'DUNE\' kick as of late and am thinking about buying some of the books (namely: \'Dune\', \'Messiah of Dune\' and \'Children of Dune\') and goin\' thru them.
-
Only books I have ever read on my own free will were Heavier Than Heaven(Cobain biography) and the LOTR trilogy...so gonna have to say Tolkien.

Have you watched the mini-series? I was going to pick it up after finishing Messiah of Dune, but I blew it off.
Impressions/opinions if you have seen it would be awesome. After all its 40 hoursI believe.

Wasn\'t Christopher Pike the captain on the original Star Trek pilot?
Yeah, he\'s a good author. He\'s written a few damned good captain\'s logs in his time! Ba dum pshhhh!
........ *crickets chirp as a tumbleweed rolls by on the far side of Pluto*

I don\'t read too much. I enjoyed Richard Russo when I read some of his stuff, especially Empire Falls, but that was over a year ago...
-
Blade, do you mean that Christopher Pike\'s story isn\'t popular.
Oh well, I remember reading a book called "Searching For Dragon" and Dealing with Dragons from a different author. Pretty interesting novel if you ask me. When I was little, my ignorance lead me to read a lot of Goosebumps and other books from R. L. Stine until later I realize his story stunks.
ADD: Oh do any of you guys here ever read book called Encyclopedia Brown and its series like EB: Boy Detective, and other books. This is a very good mini mystery book where you can finish it in one sitting. Each book have 10 Mini Mysteries and most of those Mini mysteries are pretty damn good. I remember reading Clue (you know a boardgame was based on it), and i thought it was enjoyable but not as enjoyable as Encyclopedia Brown.

Ohh nice, Dune kicks ass. But the miniseries isn\'t that good, sci-fi\'s battlestar galictica remake was better imo.
Best Dune onscreen adaption was David Lynch\'s original movie.
-
C.S. Lewis... read the space trilogy, it will make you think about our little ball of rock differently.

The Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book, followed by Of Mice and Men.
My favorite author would have to be Michael Crichton. His books are good entertainment.
-
Recent books I\'ve enjoyed: Idylls of the King, Grendel, and A Clockwork Orange. Yeah, damn highschool reading list.
-
Few others I thought of:
My Side of the Mountain
Harry Potter (Haven\'t read the latest one, good books tho)
Les Miserables
The Bible

If they don\'t pick that up for an ongoing series, I\'ll be sorely dissapointed.

dude the original david lynch version of dune kicked ass i was big into it when it first came out i had the kids version of the book with the read along tapes, all the action figures my only complaint is too much Sting not enough knife fights but the fight at the end kicked ass
but for those of you who liked it image that movie with salvador dali as the art director as opposed to h.r. geiger because dali was originaly lined up for the spot but he up and died
