Title: Another step towards "The Hobbit" hitting the screen.
Post by: GmanJoe on January 08, 2004, 11:33:29 AM
The Tolkiens apparently have given the green light for Jackson to do "The Hobbit", prequel to Lord of the Rings.

I just hope Peter Jackson doesn\'t screw it up like he did the LOTR trilogy. I don\'t think me or the rest of the world should have to sit through such a diaster.

/end critical person rant

I think I will just stick with the animated verison. I really don\'t see how Peter Jackson can make the Hobbit into a succesful film. He already ruined so many parts of the LOTR trilogy (The Witch King death scene).. Not to mention, he\'ll have a huge 50 million dollar budget to waste.

Indi > always better than mainstream.

Let it never be said that I do not have a sense of humor. :)

With that said, I am extremely excited by this news.

^ Saruman, mm = Sauron.

We have to save everyone..

Although i knew that this would happen, Lotr tri made to much cash, of course they\'d make another one. Personaly i welcome it, it will fill in a gap which should have never been there.

That world idol guy from Norway should be given the lead role.

I can\'t wait to see that scene when they find out Bilbo Baggins is a robot and knock his head off, then burn him with a flamethrower.  :)  That was cool.

He\'s doing King Kong first right?

Right. This movie still isn\'t even greenlighted really. \'The Hobbit\' has had a ton of legal problems, one of them being the Tolkien family not wanting it to happen, now that problem is gone, there still remains other problems about the distrubtion of the film and what not. It\'s a long , long time before we see anything ,

The original is the best. I cannot wait for the nice big 2-disc release they are working on (ala Citzen Kane\'s big special edition).

I hope it isnt.

Leave the legend alone, to even try Jackson. LOTR is enough, now leave it alone!

LOTR was a good cinematic trilogy. The 3rd gets a little more praise than it deserves, IMO, but they\'re all solid movies. Of course, I didn\'t read the books.

I did read that they had to cut a load of stuff to make it work in movie form, though.

Why should I have to wake up?

Most likely its just gonna be another LOTR. LOTR was good. But I dont want Tolkien just to be seen as some guy.

He was an amazing writer, not all of his shit should be tossed into a movie. Give the man some respect.

^^^True that. I thought Jurassic Park was an amazing movie when I was younger. I read the book and thought the movie was complete crap compared to the book.

I can\'t wait until this comes out. I loved the movies (gonna read the books eventually) and would like to see he prequel.

How does taking his books and making them into movies not showing him respect? His family has given their best wishes and if anything, all this does is open up his world to more people, who would not normally be interested in a fantasy novel. The movie\'s only serve as  visual aid to the story for those who have read the book and those who haven\'t will find a whole new world.

Take for example, \'Dune\', I have never read the book, but after watching the mini-series and the David Lynch film I  will buy the books for sure. Yes, I know the books will be better than the films, but if not for the films, I would of never been interested in the book.

LIC hit it right on the head. Half of America didn\'t know who Tolkien was until these movies came up.

It was required reading freshman year of college, and from what I understand that is a fairly common practice.

The books were a craze what 50 years ago? Leonard  Nimoy even did a Hobbit song in the 60\'s. Jackson brought a story that many youth have not had the joy of experiencing as of yet, and to an older generation whom enjoyed it countless years ago.

Heh. You haven\'t read anything by Frank Herbert have you?

I\'ll save you some time (taken from Book-a-minute):

Frank Herbert
I\'m lots smarter than you are. I challenge you to understand even one of my paragraphs!

Reader
Gee, Frank Herbert is smart. I can\'t even find the plot.

THE END

Not the better half [Shamelessly stolen from the motion picture Titanic. Copyright (c) 1997 Paramount Pictures].

But seriously, anyone with just a slight interest in litterature knows who Tolkiens is and has read at least The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
