Contrary to popular belief Madden 2004 lacked in so many areas it\'s a bit sickening to think about. From poor computer AI like line backers getting jammed behind DT\'s and DE\'s, to the gawd awfull presentation and commentary that was to easy to tell it was scripted. If you cant see the many flaws hindering the game then your blind. The only reason that Madden\'s the best is just that, because "compared" to others it is the best.
I know your all Madden buff\'s so if ur interested I found this website about a week ago. Madden Wishlist (http://www.maddenwishlist.com)
Im figure most of you discovered this site before I ever did but this is a quick link for some who havent. Apparently these guys are constantly in touch with EA Sports. Go express your thoughts and opinions and lets see if 2005 will be less about the pretty visuals and more about the overall depth of the game.
EDIT: Im not around here much anymore so I hope this isnt considered advertising but if it is the mod\'s are welcome to shut er down. (erm, my thread that is)

my #1 gripe is the amount of tackles the LB\'s get is embarrasing. Playing middle LB is no where as fun and active as it should be. I mean Ray Lewis getting 3-5 tackles a game, I don\'t think so. Also, the computer team usually throws 40 times a game and runs maybe 10.
-
Computer\'s play calling is too inconsistent. In the early stages of the game they are very conservative. At the end, (if they are losing) they become overly aggressive and everyone thinks there\'s a "comeback code."
Tackle animations are very weak and boring to watch.
Presentation is terrible with the exact same thing each game.
Some minor glitches such has the fade route jumper.

NFL street is about to come out. I don\'t give a poop about Madden. Bring it on!!!

I personally have a great time playing madden, especially in our PSX2 Central Madden League. Playoff time baby....... well, not for me. :(
-
Well, truth be known......
Only reason I say poop on Madden is because I suck at it.
-
Speaking of the way the computer reacts. When I drop back to pass, I have to scan the field for an open reciever while trying to avoid a sack. The computer seems to automatically know where and when a reciever is open. So as soon as they take a snap they might immediatly gun it to they\'re tightend or something. The computer needs to be a little indecisive just like us.
-
Madden is off the chain even on the x-crap. I have broken the record for int\'s in a game so many times. If u lay off the qb and cover all wr, and Te man the computer will throw an int like there is no 2marrow.
I love it but I do hate how many tackles the computer get I mean man they be having like 70-90 tackes in a 5 minute game on 16weeks impossible.
NFL2K4 is the next best thing out there.

madden 2003 was my last year with madden...espn is the new king.
-
presentation is another bad part, there\'s no build up for the playoffs or superbowl. I\'d also like to hear something like "After coming of their big win last week against the *enter team* they\'re looking to make *number* wins in a row" or something that gives you the feeling that the announcers have some idea as to what is happening in the season.
-
Yea, there comes a time you have to overlook the gameplay and ask urself, is it really that fun playing the game if everytime *insert noname here* is having a particullarly good game and John Madden spurts out about how great the player is even though he sucks. Al Micheals sounds halfway convincing at times, I guess we\'ll just have to wait for next generation systems so more complex commentary is capable.
The ending commentary of games really needs an uplift. All you get basically "Well folks thats the end of the game" *insert score here* then a couple of players waiving they\'re helments in the air and what not. How bout put a little more depth into that including players shaking hands after the game and tv camera crews around.
If EA doesnt get off their big corprate ego\'s and really revamp this series, ESPN is going to swallow them up...and for some reason I really hope they do. Atleast they look at all areas of the game instead of what pleases them.

They still need work on the secondary but i think they did a great job dealing with the bombs. People in the league couldnt take that they couldnt rely on TO for 400 yards recieving. But they do have some minor graphical things, and mainly the secondary reacting more realistic.
A small but important thing i want fixed is the camera angle. The wideouts for me are useless because if i cant see my reciever theres no way in hell im gunna throw it (online). But other than that its the one game im able to play as much as i do, but without the league i dont think id play it that much.
I havnt tried espn but i dont like how the players look in the screenshots, plus its not like i hate madden and we have the best league around, minding the few douches we get as owners but thats fixable.

Espn has tons of flaws. Tackling is horrible. Especially against a power back he will just run all over you. At least sega has enough since to know that the half-time show is part of the NFL.
I would have to say madden is much better. Freestyle give you so much more control of the game it\'s awesome. And i love setting high ticket prices:D

Not true. Take for example, NFL Blitz Pro, the commentary on that game is a lot more interesting. Before every game, the announcers will announce the team, talk about why the pick a certain team over the other team . Madden doesn\'t even do this.

only thing that\'s wrong with espn IS that the running game for certain backs is too amped. gameplay crushes madden. the cutscenes, the commentary blows it away. they even have at least 3 highlights of games that week in nfl primetime. madden has the same rehash year after year. who gives a s**t about setting hotdog prices? say what you want about the cutscenes (crowd, cheerleaders) but that adds alot to the atomosphere. they even have player profile after a big play. Madden is a great game, but i would buy madden just because it\'s "madden". espn is clearly better & it shows.

Havent checked this game out yet, if the commentary is as good as you say it is then I suppose we\'ll have to put Madden\'s lack of depth in that area on account of laziness

On madden I have the worst defense but the #1 or #2 offense. Why? B/c I own the other team the first half of the game and all of a sudden after picking up 10 ints on the first half the QB throws flawlessly and just keeps them throwing making my Godly defense on the first half look like shit on the second half..
NO MORE MIRACLE COMEBACKS!!!
Tackling..Im running with my HB and he gets talked and bounces back like 3 yards.
tackling...When I try lets say to sack the QB the second i press X to control the nearest DL dude he throws the ball and i get stuck controlling the dude covering the guy the QB threw the ball to and I dont notice b/c since i was diving at the second the QB threw the ball with my DL guy my CB dives. they score.
-
I hate it when guys running routes in the flats or short cross patterns get stuck behind lineman.
I also hate it when they don\'t throw the flag on obvious defensive pass interference calls, like a guy just blocking your way and shoving you away from the point where the ball lands.
And will it ever be possible to block XP\'s?

Well I like my football games to be a little bit more realistic. I mean sure all the commentary and highlights are great. But what matters to me most is the gameplay. And comes up a little short.
I mean there really is no running game in ESPN all you gotta do is take your back and charge up the middle your sure the get 3 yards or more.
I mean i seriously hate the running game on ESPN especially with a strong back it is crazy how they will just break tackles. In madden I can become the playmaker and control my back and my blocker. And you actually have to find holes and not just charge threw.
The passing game lacks there of. Only good thing about it is maximum passing. Once you play madden it just doesn\'t seem the same.
I will admit the presentation is awesome but thats it. The passing the running and the ability to beocome the play makes madden so much better. If madden had all the glamour of ESPN there would be no other football game on earth to play.

realistic? hmmm when you run in madden the back runs in place on the blocker..espn the back pushes his hand against the defenders back. player models are way better than madden. And playmaker? woopdee do! tell your blockers where to block! shouldn\'t they know they\'re assignments anyway? to me it\'s just an audible on the run. but alas we could go on forever with this thing as i\'m sure it\'s just a matter of preference. But for me i\'ve been playing madden since the genesis days and this year was my first year with espn and i was highly impressed. It\'s gonna take alot for EA to convert me back. :)

yES blockers do follow there assignments but just like in the NFL sometimes those have to be changed. In Espn all you have to do is run and charge threw.
And I don\'t see how u say you have been so such a madden fan for so long and changed. ESPN is not as depth as madden. Its all presentation. I mean if all your into is presentation and crib mode how could u play madden so long?
NFL2K has been out for a while now.

that\'s exactly my point! i was trying not to show any bias towards madden by saying i never played any of the nfl2k games. Everytime i played madden i always stated "damn why don\'t they do a better halftime gig or at least updates from around the league?" and wala espn had it. like i said it\'s preference. i like all that atomoshpere espn brings with it. now madden probably is better when it comes to owning the team & such but i don\'t really care about that,.like i said preference. it\'s also the small details in espn..
when the play is over you can still see def & off linemen pushing each-other like they are about to fight...the running back or receiver automatically jump over defenders on the ground. I know it\'s small but it\'s details like that that make the game so great. oh and another question isn\'t presentation what we want in our games? you can\'t sit there and say naw i don\'t want to see no highlights or how the crowd reacts when i throw an interception. we all want the whole package.. presentation AND gameplay..espn has both.

Most of us around here play in the league and we play online, I haven\'t played ESPN, but I know that Madden is better online for that much.
-
i haven\'t played online either but i\'ve heard it\'s not that great. everybody uses either ricky williams, faulk or any other high rated back. In this aspect they really need to tone down the running game and make it more balanced.
