Title: The New VW
Post by: Jar O Pickles on January 14, 2004, 05:29:13 PM
I never thought in my life i would want to own a VW but after seeing this bad boy i might just consider it
it looks like the want to give the BMW 7 series a little competition
standard 335 hp v8
optional 420 hp v12

I don\'t understand why this model is necessary.  VW is the same company as Audi, right?  If they want to sell a luxury sedan, why don\'t they focus on selling Audis instead?  What\'s the benefit in developing a VW Phaeton so they can compete with themselves?  Note: When you go to VW\'s website and use the "compare" tool, it doesn\'t let you compare the Phaeton to any Audi models; only to BMW, Lexus, Jaguar, and MB.

Also $79,000 is too much for a VW.  People who spend that much care about the badge as much or more than the features.  I don\'t get it.

If I was rich and I had money to spare, I would buy 10 of those. I saw the commercial for it, wow.

Hehe, i\'m sure that an Audi version is not too far behind.  Let\'s think about it, they could market it for over $100,000 and give it a spruced up "audi" appeal.

I believe Audi is seperate from VW (although they have the same monthercompany ... or something). There\'s Audi + Lamborghini + SEAT + maybe someone else and VW + Bugatti + Bentley + maybe someone else.

Disclaimer: Details may be off. ;)

VW/Audi ALWAYS charges too much for what you get in the sedan department.  How many A6\'s do you see on the road compared to Infinitis, Lexus\'s, Mercedes and 540i\'s?  You\' have to be crazy to spend that much bread on an Audi, much less a the same frame with a VW badge.

VW acquired Audi in 1965, and one of the lead VW guys, Ferdinand Porsche, left and started his own company that designed exotic sports cars.  I forget the name of it though.

Audi\'s are very nice though. Not sure what it costs compared to BMW in the States... but if it\'s cheaper then it\'s not a bad deal. If it\'s more expensive, I\'d prolly just buy a BMW.

They are pretty much dead even:

$35k usd for an A4 3.0 or 330i
325i = $28k
A4 1.8T = $29k

There are a lot more 3 series on the road than Audis.  The BMWs have a better reputation and styling.

Skoda are another part of V.A.G.

They still can\'t shake the image though, that\'ll stay forever!

I\'d buy this VW over a Beemer any day, less likely to have stupid and irritating electrical problems like most BMWs I know of.

Too bad though. I wouldn\'t mind driving one (after VAG bought them that is ;)).

Every Skoda I\'ve tried has that annoying new thing on the clutch pedal where there\'s no resistance on the way down but then virtually catapults your leg through the roof when you release.

I hate it, nearly every cars clutch feels like shit. BMW clutches have just felt shit for as long as I can remember. I can\'t recall anything like this on a VW annoying me.

I will never buy a VW because the company and it\'s most famous model were personally authorized by Adolph Hitler.  The very name VOLKS wagen calls to mind NSDAP speeches delivered by Hitler.  When I see that name, I can\'t help thinking about Hitler shrieking "DEN DEUTSCHEN VOLKES!!"  :O

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer ;)

Anyway, I still have my Jetta - the one I traded in for the Mach, for some reason VW doesn\'t like to terminate leases early so I have a free car for the next couple of months.

One of my hosts, Sam Memmolo gets media cars.  He got this car like 2 weeks ago.  Let me tell you.  He gets a lot of cars.  Over a car a week.  He has driven a hell of a lot of mac daddy cars.

He told me that he was absolutely floored by this car.  It absolutely hauled ass and the ride was incredible.  He went on and on about it, but I don\'t want to bore you.  Just wanted to tell you a first hand account.

^^ ugh, then you can just as well avoid to buy any stuff made by Adidas (made Nazi boots ... if i got it right) and a whole shitload of other well known German companies. The new VW Beetle is pretty popular over here in Europe, nobody drags on about that sad past here.

Hey I know I have contradictions, I admit it.  I like Porsches, even though the Porsche firm built panzers during WWII.

There\'s just something about the name VOLKSWAGEN that reminds me of Nazis.  Also, the fact that the Beetle (Kafer) body design was developed during that time, and it\'s so closely connected with Hitler and the Nazi party...  I just don\'t have much interest in them.

In that case you also better put Mitsubishi on the list too.

They build the Japanese WW2 fighter the ZERO.

anyway nice looking VW anyway, but it looks very similar to a Audi, or it just me.

Honda built generators as well... but really who cares, they are not the same companies they were prior to World War II.

Exactly.

In fact there are only about 5 Major car companies now a days, that have gotten “fat” by swallowing up all the little ones.

Ironic isn\'t it that BMW took over Rolls Royce?  God does have a sense of humor I guess. ;)
