Title: Ok, I found out why my computer run rather slowly.

i found out it was my computer hard disk drive\'s fault that makes it run slowly.  On the back of this hdd, one of the pins is broken, must been when i  removed it and connect it to another hdd, i broke it.  Well, i bought this hdd in the summer of 2002, 80 GB 7200 RPM, for about $100.  Now, i can get this for $50 or less.  Guess i learn a lesson to be careful with the hard disk drive, especially when connecting the IDE cable to the pins.

Of all the trouble i had because of this hdd, i have to reinstall Windox XP with, and the such.  Anyway, for some reason, the computer is shutting down whenever i log on to the internet for about 5 minutes.  i don\'t what is the problem, its shutting down now as i type this.

ADD:  I would like to say i had already returned the Emprex 4x +/- RW DVD burner yesterday.  It turns out it really isn\'t the burner\'s fault that cause the disc i burn home video into couldn\'t play on my dvd player.  But rather the broken pin on the hard disk drive.  But still, the Emprex laser isn\'t really that good anyway.

First the CPU burnt, lost about $45
then the hard-drive is broken, lost about $101 (now can be had for less than $50 with the same memory, and faster buffer too
and last but not least, the floppy drive doesn\'t read the discs anymore.  Lost $15.  Guess i have to buy a new one to replace it.  Too bad i can\'t find any floppy disc as cheap as $10 or less.  But its cool.
I am trying to figure out why my pc keep shutting down whenever i get online.

Okay, my uncle told me to install anti virus and i did.  i installed PC-cillin and i check my computer for any virus on all drives and files and i find none.  So, i try to connect online.  So far, i haven\'t got the warning sign that said it will shut down in 1 minute.

So, it seems like i need to install antivirus or my computer will shut down automatically.  Not sure why, probably fear my hard drive may get infect with virus or something.  So, i have solve the automatic shutdown thanks to my uncle.

does it give you a warning, like a "shutdown in 60 seconds" dialog box?  If so, first hit start, click on run, type Command, once in dos type in shutdown -a.  That will stop it from shutting down on you.  Now hit ctrl+alt+dlt and see if msblast is running.  If no, then just do a basic search of your HD for anything with blast in it.  If you find it, remove it and that should do the trick.

theomen, yeah, it said "shutdown in 60 seconds", but after i install the PC-Cillin antivirus software, it havent\' do that since.

search ur folders for msblast.exe...probably still lying somewhere around.

Did a search and couldn\'t find msblast.  But i think its gone or something, but thanks for the tips.  I will definately try your tips whenever i get a warning notice 60 seconds shut down again.  I will try to see if any computer virus is on like blast by trying your cltrl+Alt+Del to see if it running on my computer if i detect anything weird going on.

PC-cilin sucks.  I guess some popular PC magazine must have recommended it because I see it often.  I fixed my friend\'s comp a while back, it had PC-Cilin and was still harvested by countless spy-ware and about a dozen or so viruses.

ummmm...it ask for email address and password.  Does it mean my email address\'s password?  I think i am doing fine with pc-cillin.  So far so good, unless my computer start acting up, i won\'t try you website.  too risky.

It\'s asking for an email address and a password for when you register.  It is NOT asking for your email\'s password.  Although hypothetically you could use your email password as your password for when you sign up....

The website isn\'t risky at all.

Dude, it\'s mcaffe.  It\'s a huge business.  Besides you just use an email address reserved for spam.  It\'s almost mandatory to have one of those anyways.

:) it just comes down to what works for you.  If you\'ve been having good fortune with PCC then great.

McAfee is synonomous to Norton when it comes to anti-virus software fyi.

THX, i believe you about McAfee or Norton Anti Virus is better than PC-Cillin, you seem to know what you are talking about on this anti virus thingy.  But, i don\'t think it\'s necessary to do a scan or whatever right now.  Unless, like i said, my computer is starting to do strange things.  But again, thanks for the link.  Knowledge is power and thank for the info.
