Title: Soul Calibur 2
Post by: Metal Gear on January 25, 2004, 11:11:12 AM
This is a great game but something has been bothering me lately.

I\'ve unlocked all the characters and all the weapons.I was fighting the computer in arcade mode and very frequently the framerate dropped!Especially when the two characters block eachotther\'s moves and the sparks fly.I find that in some battles the framerae drops and in other battles it\'s fine.

This does not affect the gameplay at all but I wanted to know from you guys what causes this.Am I just being way too picky/paranoid here?
I don\'t mind frameratedrops in games but I don\'t expect them in fighting games(where the action is so hectic).

When I fight with Ivy it seems to happen the most, maybe it\' s because I\'ve unlocked a weapon for Ivy wich causes the frames to drop(because the sparks fly and the special moves are very fast and over the top.Or maybe my ps2 is so clogged with dust that it doesn\'t know wich way is up.

Any advice/explenations?

Thanx in advance.

I have the X Box version, and I don\'t notice any framerate problems, but apparently it has slowdown.  All the versions have slowdown, but you realy have to look for it.  It\'s weird that the Dreamcast version runs perfectly at 60fps.  I should fire up my Dreamcast and see how much of an improvement the sequel is.

The PS2 version has been known that it is the worst quality of all three. Resolution, lame character and frame-rate problems.

I think Namco just suck ass now when it comes to making games. Their quality control is crap, I think they must be in some finacial problems because they just seem to be churning out really crap or buggy games eg that R racer.

Soul Calibur 2 was good, but it was cursed by the multi-platform curse. It should of been on one console (Xbox) and been developed alittle longer. Could of been excellent, like the first one, instead it\'s just "good". Last good game before SC2 was Kolona 2.

Ahm actually it should have been on PS2 with Spawn.Get real. The DS2 is more appropriate for SC2 than any other controller.Frame Rate problems are almost the same as with every version of SC2.And the resolution aint that bad. They are almost 100% identical. The most noticable disadvantage is the lame ass character.
And its funny to expect the same difference seen between Soul Edge and Soul Calibur to be seen between  Soul Calibur and Soul calibur2 as well. There was more room for improvement and innovation when Soul Calibur was in development back then.XBOX can offer better graphics.Nothing more.XBOX\'s power isnt enough to innovate and add more gameplay features than what the PS2 or GC can offer. So I wonder what makes someone believe it should have been better if it was only released on XBOX.

It\'s just a case of the PS2 showing it\'s age already. It\'s not really up to date anymore and can\'t handle what the XBox and Gamecube, and certainly PCs can handle.

Admitadly, it has been out for a few years now, but the graphics on it have always been shitty. The Dreamcast was better. Look at Crazy Taxi for example...looked so much better on the DC.

VF4 was nothing special. Hardly AAA status. And yes, looking at the PS2 version, DC proabably could do better!

Thats an ignorant statement to make.

I really think that keeping the game multiplatform was a good move. I cant really say that the game would do better on XBox. Personally, If it werent for the crappy controller, the GC version would be the best. Spawn (in SC)=:ghey:

It probably could have been worked out on the ps2 if the sole development was focused on the ps2. Its just that our version is mainly so shitty because we get Heihachi as our damn character. Namco should know that we dont want to play with that old F*** anymore.

At least get the rights to put somebody like, Alucard or Dante (w/o powers) in there. somebody worth playing as.

Ok, saying it would run on DC was slight exageration. Out of the three platforms it looks worst on the PS2. I don\'t give two ****s. I\'m not a graphics whore. It\'s just that it was origianally stated that the PS2 version slows down in this thread. I said why...because the PS2 is outdated.

Simple, really?

Goin\' with him on this one. The PS2 is out-dated and it is showing its age with games like SC2.
However, it should be outdated by now. How old is it? Right and what console came out first? Right...
;)

How much slowdown have you noticed on the PS2 version when compared to the other two versions?
the difference is small.Almost doesnt exist.
And seeing games like DOA3 on XBOX with better graphics and no slowdown(released a few years ago) while SC2 has some slowdown on XBOX I wonder if it has to do anything with "outdated hardware" indeed.

Exactly. I\'m not saying it\'s just new with shit hardware. I\'m saying it\'s old. Hence the use of the word \'outdated\'.

That makes absolutely no sense. You say the XBox can handle better (DOA3) and then you say it\'s outdated because it slows down on SC2 (does it???). I haven\'t seen better on PS2 than SC2.

No I didnt mean its out dated. What I pointed out is that the slowdown seen in SC2 has nothing to do with hardware limitations on any console.

They should have used a charachter from Final Fantasy, but I don\'t think Square would be too happy with that.  I have played the PS2 version and it\'s practically identical to the X box version.  It\'s not a big deal!  The only reason I picked the X Box version over the PS2 version was Spawn, I don\'t want to play with that old **** Heihachi!
