Looks like LOTR lead the nominations.  I would have to think that it will get best picture and director.  I mean all of the movies were good and it hasn\'t won any of them.  As a whole that is a great piece of work.

Lost in translation looks like someting I need to see.  Is it still in the theaters?  I\'ve never even heard of it before.  The clips looked funny.

Bill Murray finally had his day @ the Golden Globes last weekend.  Everyone know he still wants an oscar, and we all know he has deserved one for quite a while now.

As for LOTR the "experts" say a sci-fi never wins big at the oscars, especially never big picture.  This was proven when A Beautiful Mind beat FOTR even though it was mediocre and very forgettable.

W0W, I\'ve already seen all the best picture nominees without even making an effort.  That\'s a bit unusual.  The only one that has a prayer of beating LOTR for best picture is Mystic River.  That was actually quite a good movie, but not BEST PICTURE caliber in my opinion.  LOTR is the only one of the five that fits my definition of what a Best Picture should be.  Seabiscuit would be a distant second by that analysis, though I didn\'t really like it.

I can\'t believe Depp was nominated as best actor for Pirates of the Caribbean.  An entertaining performance, but not BEST ACTOR level by any means.  Apologies to Bill Murray, but Sean Penn should take that one.

I will cover the other categories later.

Holland is also represented with "De Tweeling".In America this has been transformed into "Twin Sisters"

It\'s about 2 girls(twins) that have been separated when they were young, many years later they meet again.

Way to go Holland!

No cabin fever nominations?

Seriously Jackson deserves an oscar for what he has accomplished. Depp is probably the most talented actor in Hollywood, but he does not deserve a nomination for Pirates. IMHO.

It would be funny if Depp won for Pirates.  I thought he was great in the movie, but it isn\'t the type of movie Oscars come out of.

heh, maybe it\'s my bias for Murray wanting him to win an oscar and all.  I think he does great work, he practically did Rushmore for free in hopes of getting oscar buzz.   Imo he has really good screen presence, I just feel like laughing/crying/joy whenever I see him on screen.

Anyone who says that any Wes Anderson film "sucks ass" immediately loses my respect.  Rushmore was a work of genius.

Just like with SirMystiq, I would ask you "why?"  It\'s hard for me to imagine anything about it that anyone could NOT like.

Damn, there are only like 8 Australian noms, and Nicole and Russel got snubbed, those bastards!

Naomi Watts is an amazing actress, I hope she wins, though I reckon Charlize will get it.

Renee Zellwegger deserves to win for Cold Mountain. She was just amazing.

You\'re right, Depp doesn\'t deserve one for POTC. He deserves one for OUATIM.

Pffftt...

Best Actor should be Robert Englund and Best Actress should be Kristanna Loken...

Pshhh, Arnold owns Englund. He was Oscar-worthy in T3 and you know it!

I tried my hardest to sit through that movie and figure out why people liked it.  I am at a loss.  The thing was a piece of shit.  NEver laughed once.  Never enjoyed it once.  It blew nuts.

Rushmore was okay. Royal Teenabums was a work of genius.

What about that scene sequence with all the shots of Max in various school clubs?  What about the scene where he\'s rehearsing one of his plays as a Chollo driving a lowrider in East LA?  What about his performance of "Serpico?"  Are you telling me none of that was funny to you?  You must have a deteriorated sense of humor.

This movie was actually MORE deliberately funny than "The Royal Tenenbaums."  Wes Anderson\'s style of humor is intelligent and subtle.  One should not expect Adam Sandler style humor out of these films.

I haven\'t seen royal tenenbaums.  ALthough I remember I wanted to see it when it came out.

Honestly I was so bored in Rushmore that I think I fell asleep in it.

The Royal Teenabums is one of my favorite "blind buys" bought it for the all-star cast and fell in love with it.

LIC:  I get the impression you have little interest in seeing movies in a real theater.  You\'re always talking about the things you saw on DVD only.  I\'m just curious about how you decide what to see in a theater and what not to see.

I see most things in a theater if at all possible.  I feel that if I stumble upon something I really like, I want to make sure I\'ve seen it in a quality auditorium at least once.  No matter how good your home theater setup, I\'ve never see one that could match some of the theaters we have in LA.

I only see things I\'m dying to see in the cinema. ROTK, Last Samurai, Cabin Fever, Kill Bill, things of that sort. Rest of the time, I just buy stuff blindly on DVD.
