Title: Best First-Person Shooter?
Post by: square_marker on January 28, 2004, 01:13:09 PM
I\'m looking to get another fps for my PS2.  I already have timesplitters 1, is there any suggestions for another one?  And why?

it\'s not really a first person shooter, but i\'d have to recommend Socom 1 or 2, they are both excellent games (especially online).

Timesplitters 2 was a good time as well... had lots of fun with that one.  Also Medal of Honor: Frontline.

EDIT: And I almost forgot Red FAction 2.  I never played the first, but RF2 was really damn cool and can be found used at my local EB for 17 bucks used!

TimeSplitters 2 is the best FPS on PS2..

Other than that the following are pretty good: Red Faction, Medal of Honor Frontline and Half Life (decay mode is fun in 2 player co-op)

To be honest, if you want a decent FPS, look at the XBox. Playstation is just full of shit with the exception of a couple of games.

Halo 2 is where it\'s at. Halo 1 is better than anything PlayStation 2 has to offer. Having said that, Quake III Arena on the Dreamcast was better than all of the crap on the PS2.

i\'ve played about 15 hours of Halo this past Christmas and didn\'t see what was so great about it.  Why it garners such high praise is beyond me.  I\'m interested in seeing what Halo 2 brings to the table though.  It\'s gonna be online right?

Counter-Strike for the PC. Forget about your bias for PS2 and be glad you played this beaut.

Well i surely do not enjoy killing pathetic teletubbies in Halo. There are better ps2 FPS that have fiercer enemies than fighting idiots in Halo.

Do not believe in these Portboxers comments, they are graphics slaves who are fans of the pathethic Microsoft Words which is  the most pathethic program ever created in history of mankind.

Turn if off easy mode please ad notice the difference. Good luck finding better AI in any other FPS game that exist. It\'s impossible to hit anything with a grenade in the hardest mode. :(

When i first beat halo I was like ok that was fun. Turned it up to the hardest level and boy what a huge difference. Yeah try finding better on ps2(doesn\'t exist)

For ps2 i would ts2 because there isn\'t much else that is all that good. And ts2 is pretty fun.

so cervante, how is halo 2?

If your going to get Halo, get the PC version. Online multiplayer is what makes the game.

Cervantes, how old are you? I\'m tired of this fanboy bs of yours. Go get a job, get all 3 systems, and stop your bitching.

I\'ve got all 3 systems. I\'ve got a job, and I\'m not bitching. Merely stating what I think.

**** sake, you guys take things take too seriously!!! Is this forum your life or something? Do you feel that if you don\'t suck SONY\'s ass that the other forum members will make you an outcast?

What does this have to do with anything?  I would expect more from you mm.  Sales mean little to how good a game truly is.  For instance-I\'m sure all the PS2 FPS sell quite well but none of them are anything above decent except maybe TS2.

sales > all

in the grand scheme of things

ask nintendo

oh, and MoH will always > halo

You\'re telling me that Frontline is better than Halo?  If so than I\'m afraid you\'re a complete moron.

Allied Assault is a great FPS though but is a completely different game.
Title: Best First-Person Shooter?
Post by: mm on January 29, 2004, 08:09:32 PM
how are they different?

oh yeah, moh didnt use the same 5 levels over, and over, and over....
Title: Best First-Person Shooter?
Post by: Bozco on January 29, 2004, 08:14:52 PM
Your arguement is weak.  MOH also was repetitive and did little to innovate.  The enemy AI was also rather pathetic at times.  I played AA probably more than anybody else here, but I didn\'t spend all my time having fun on the one player.  It just was endlessly fun beating people online.  Halo on the other hand offered a great one player that proved fun especially when going back on harder difficulties.  The multiplayer is also amazing with other talented players.

Oh, and I won\'t be bothered to explain how different they are. It\'s rather obvious with how each plays.

I would like to ask cervante what the "big" deal was with Halo.

Halo was dated (added little to nothing to the FPS genre)  ... repetitive (copy and paste level build)… and a chore to play (anything under 30 Frames Per Second is un-acceptable for a first person shooter).

If you mean in a world where good is bad and bad is good, where black is white and white is black, then yes. If not, then no.

There\'s a difference between being constuctive or being a cock, you\'re erring towards the latter.

Seriously, if you\'re going to carry that fanboy mentality around with you you\'ll have to leave it at the entrance to this place. What made you think it was a good idea to come to a PS2 forum and slate the PS2 (at least have a point, don\'t just bitch)? You\'ll make no friends that way.

I agree slightly about the amount of crap games on the PS2 but that\'s because there are about ten times as many titles overall on PS2, it\'s all relative.

I\'m just saying, add a little reasoning to your posts rather than plain outright flaming (unless it obviously needs flaming).

Oh and I forgot,

Red Faction 1 - Single player and deathmatches both kick arse.

TS2 - A close second.

You were asking Cervante but I\'ll answer.  Amazing enemy AI, crisp aiming controls, great amount of multiplayer levels, and an overall well put together game.

Again, I said what I think, and I get a called a cock. I don\'t get it? Halo; amazing AI, vast levels, good sound, vehicles, good physics, different to any other FPS out there. ok, graphics were only 30 fps, but I\'m not a graphics whore. High framerate does not always = high fun.

Halo is good esp for co-op and when you put the difficulty on legendary , the AI is far superior to anything else I\'ve ever played.  One bad point is that playing online, everybody just 1-hit kills w/a sniper rifle so that\'s no fun.  But I definitely would not get it on pc.  Way too many problems.

I hated red faction, both of them.

There\'s a new game call SWAT I\'ve been wanting to try out.

WTF are you talking about? You seem to be taking this system loyalty bs too seriously. I just don\'t see why you feel the need to lower the PS2 every chance you get and it is getting irritating. What I just quoted doesn\'t make sense at all.

EmperorRob, you just suck at Halo. :p ;)

Is that everyone\'s answer to something they don\'t like? If I say something against SONY I\'m a Troll am I? You\'ll find if you read other threads I get a lot of agreement with what I say from other people from this forum. If you don\'t like my opinion, that\'s tough shit.

Even if you get agreement from other forum members, and even if you do state legitmate facts (which half the time you don\'t) the way you word every post is provoking.  You know exactly what you are doing (at least I hope to god you do) and I\'d appreciate it if you toned it down a bit.  I don\'t mind that you dislike the PS2 and their "shitty exclusives", but please conduct yourself in a little more of a mature manner.

Yeah thats because other forums suck!:p j/k. We honestly couldnt care any less about what other people in other forums have to say.

Its not that you are saying something bad about sony, its just the way in which you do it.

As for the FPS thing, Halo wasnt all that great to me. It wasnt bad, but not what all the hype led me to believe. Personally in the long run, ive probably played more RF1&2 more (and yes i have both at my disposal). MoH:F...eh i wouldnt call that better either.

The difference between Halo and TS1&2 is that TS is an arcade FPS so comparing the two is like comparing two different types of FPS\'s. Its just not a good comparison.

And if my memory serves me correct, QuakeIII WAS on the ps2.

I\'ll tone down my "provocative" behaviour for the benefits of the short-tempered and easily offended...if that makes you happy?

Yes, Quake III was on PS2. Now, tell me the first thing you notice when you play the game...choppy frame-rates. You simply can\'t afford this in a game like this. Now, I wouldn\'t mind if it was constant 30 fps...but it\'s not. At times it\'s silk smooth (very nice) then it judders slightly which can become off putting.
Title: Best First-Person Shooter?
Post by: Lord Nicon on January 31, 2004, 05:19:02 PM
Either way the game wasn\'t greatly welcomed. Not to mention that it wasnt that innovative in the first place. Halo or TS easily outdo it.
