Title: You Got Served
Post by: EmperorRob on January 28, 2004, 02:11:05 PM
Can someone explain to me what this movie is about?  I mean my ghetto is a little outdated but I have no clue what that title\'s supposed to mean.

From the 6 second previews it looks like a combination of Westside Story and Fast and the Furious.  It\'s got that one dude who can stand on his head diagonally and slide, and then enimem gets in the face of some dude from KrisKross and is saying \'get your serve on\' or something like that.  And then Lil\' Kim is talking about Old Navy hooded sweatshirts or something.  And I think there was a basketball b/c there\'s some rule that if you have a movie and there\'s more than 4 black guys in it you have to put basketball in there somewhere.

Sometimes I say its not too fair to judge a movie by the previews, but this is an exception. I think my tongue started bleeding I bit it so hard when I heard that white guy say, "You got served!"

Never, ever, ever, will see it. I hope everyone responsible for its production dies in a fire.

I might go see it, just to hear the music...If I do go see it, It\'s either b/c I got free tickets or I went movie hopping.

Want proof only morons like this movie?

Today in North Las Vegas there was a huge brawl at a movie theater because all of these simple minded people tried to sneak into one of "You Got Served" \'s sold out shows. And then the people in there got pissed and they all got arrested! Man those people do not deserve to live.

Las Vegas is a breeding site for morons. Me and Stapler are obvious exceptions, however if you live here you will see just how stupid the people are here. It sold out at Texas Station (a casino with a theater in it). If you got arrested over fighting to see something as worthless as "You got Served", I seriously think that the death penalty would justify their worthlessness.

I still have to see "Drumline"... sorta like a buildup to a crescendo of fine entertainment.

You know, I\'ve been wanting to sit in a theatre with a bunch of ignorant, welfare-collecting baby machines, listening to arguments conducted across the theatre, while 47 cell phones ring and see a movie about street dancing.

When are they going to make movies for 30-year-old white men who have jobs and pay taxes?

Oh, wait... Lord of the Rings came and went...

No racism intended... I am just sick of the fact that I live 3 minutes from a 16-theatre complex, and I have to drive 35 minutes to find a theatre that people know how to behave in...

that\'s a wee bit ignorant on your part chizz. i\'ll be honest it\'s true that you will run into that scenario given the young black youth, but the same can be said about the young white youth..And if i last remember there are more white people on welfare than black. it\'s just glamored on tv that most blacks take advantage of it.

Who else would they be made for?

A listing of some of the movies in theaters now.

The Big Bounce
Owen Wilson and Morgan Freeman star in this crime caper comedy, set in Hawaii, about a small time crook who is recruited by a beautiful woman to rip off a wealthy real estate developer.

The Perfect Score
Scarlett Johansson costars in this crime comedy about a group of high school students who band together to steal SAT answers.

You Got Served
This is the story of two friends who dream of opening their own hip-hop dance studio, but they must first prove their talent by defeating another group of street dancers in a big competition.

The Butterfly Effect
Ashton Kutcher (TV\'s \'That 70s Show\') stars in this psychological thriller as a young man who discovers an ability to travel back in time to relive the past that leads to changes in the present that are just as bad as what he was originally trying to fix.

Along Came Polly
When his new bride cheats on him with a scuba instructor, Reuben (Ben Stiller) gets the courage together to ask his childhood friend, Polly (Jennifer Aniston) out.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
J.R.R. Tolkien\'s fantasy trilogy comes to its conclusion as Frodo and Sam continue their trek towards Mount Doom while the rest of the Fellowship tries to rally together an alliance to make their last stand against Saruman\'s invading hordes from Mordor.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!
When a hot young actor, Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel), agrees to participate in a promotional date contest, he\'s surprised to discover that he actually falls in love with the winner (Kate Bosworth).

Big Fish
Visionary director Tim Burton\'s latest film stars Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney as the younger and older versions of an eccentric man who spends his life telling wondrous tales of his past adventures (expands nationwide on January 9th).

Cold Mountain
Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger star in this Civil War romantic drama about an injured Confederate soldier making his way back to his home and wife (Kidman).

Monster
Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci star in this crime thriller based upon the true story of highway prostitute and serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Something\'s Gotta Give
When an aging womanizer (Jack Nicholson) accompanies his latest girlfriend (Amanda Peet) to visit her mother (Diane Keaton) in the Hamptons, he surprisingly finds himself competing with his new doctor (Keanu Reeves) for her mom\'s attention.

Cheaper by the Dozen
Steve Martin stars in this comedy remake as the father of a family of 12 kids of varying ages, with Hilary Duff and Piper Perabo playing two of his daughters, and Ashton Kutcher as a boyfriend.

Torque
Ice Cube stars in this thriller as the leader of a gang of motorcycle bikers who chases down another group of bikers after they are framed for the murder of his brother.

House of Sand and Fog
Jennifer Connelly and Sir Ben Kingsley star in this drama about the rift that develops between a woman who loses her family\'s home and the exiled Iranian colonel who buys the house in an auction as his own family\'s fulfillment of the American dream.

Can you seriously read over that list and tell me that the majority of those movies don\'t have 30yo white males in its target demographics?

And the comment about movies for 30 yr old white guys who have jobs and pay taxes was directed only at myself, \'cos that\'s what I am. Interesting that you all assumed I was baggin\' on the brothers & sisters. I was only expressing disgust at irresponsible youth in general.

Somethings Gotta Give = Romantic comedy for 30 year old women.

The fact that the average age of all movie viewers is 30ish with the majority being male. When a movie studio is targeting a black/latin/teen audience(niche) you know it as soon as you see a couple of the cast members. When I saw a commercial for "You got served" I knew who they were trying to get just like when I saw a commercial for "Cold Mountain". Its the same lucrative market that everyone targets. 18-45 yo white males.

Dude what are you talking about? If anything all of the movies are targeting young minorities. You Got Served is a perfect example. Majority of teenagers, black, latino and even white, will fall for anything involving some hip hop music and people moving on a screen fast.

All we\'re doing now is playing with stereotypes... When I stereotype an "average 30 year old, white male" I\'m thinking a little blue-collared and experienced.

Movies are targeting stupid teenagers. The End.

Cold Mountain I\'ll give you just because he is from the south. Even that is pushing it.

Lets think logically here. White people outnumber blacks probably 10 to 1. Would you be suprised if there are 10 times more white people in movies than blacks?

Look up some viewer demographics. Something like 80% of viewers are between 18-48. 51% are male and 67% are white.

Which is the same demographic that all forms of media are after. Everything from TV to Magazines wants that demographic to be their "main" demo. That is why mostly everything is skewed to them. If you think that the majority of all media is not skewed towards that demo, than you are just not paying attention.

Its not easy to say EXACTLY how movies are targeted at 30 yo white males because they are the MAIN target. Still, I\'ll say that it is the same way "You got served" is NOT targeted at 30 year old white guys. Cast and content. If I see that Fiddy Sint is starring in a movie I know who they are targeting. The same way I can look at a movie starring someone like Russell Crowe or Tom Hanks and know who they are going after.

i\'d have to say it\'s a little bit of both..since the majority of people in the u.s. are white you are going to see more movies geared toward that audience. but there still is an audience for minorities as well,..there is still a profit & money to gain from these films even if the profit is small. while some minority themed movies do quite well (remembers the first week barbershop came out) Of course this has to do with what movies are being released as well.

bottom line is you will have white movies getting more support than minority type films being they are the majority.

ps: this movie "you just got served" seems to be a movie that\'s crossing all cultures white ,black, hispanic, like fast & the furious, but leaning a little more towards the black side of it. i\'m not sure if i\'m explaining myself clearly but hopefully you guys understand ;)
