I find myself posting this link in this forum every couple of weeks for members with the same question....
"How do I fix my ps2?"
well this should solve almost all of your ps2\'s disc error problems.

It does work. I am a tried and true tester of this article and my PS2 is fine today. If your machine is beyond its two year warranty, or whatever warranty you happened to grab when you picked it up, I highly recommend this trick. Be warned though, PSX2C is not responsible for idiots out there with screwdrivers so open your machine and fiddile with it at your own risk. Messing up anything inside means you have to buy an all new machine. Just FYI.

I found a couple more FAQs that may be of some help. I have had some luck with these.

The free repair method (try these first):

Hope these are of some help to someone.
EDIT: I have tried the way Kimahri has posted. It works perfectly. It feels good to play the old blue disc games again.

But of course, we all know the quickest and easiest way to fix your ps2 is to stick it in the freezer ;)

Indeed Kimahri :D
On a serious note, I would advise trying a lens cleaning disc first. Sometimes that works well can save the trouble of opening up the machine.

That\'s the method I used when my PS2 broke down about 8 months ago... it\'s worked ever since. All my problems came from having had my PS2 vertical for about the first 6 months...
It\'s interesting to note, that on page one they say always use a vaccuum instead of compressed air, and then on page two they say use compressed air. Ahh, the proof reading skills aren\'t so bad yet.

and if none of those don\'t work you can do what I did.
Make friends temporairly with an enemy that owns a PS2 ask them to spend the night gaming then when they pass out swap the PS2\'s.
But yeah before you do that, try the other options first :)

thanks for the help, this machine is 4 or so yrs old and have had it apart several times to make repairs to the slide tray, and other componets. It is borderline in age and usage that if i needed to send it in it would have been cost effective to throw it out and purchase a new console, once again thanks for your help

The solution is to buy new laser not refurbished.
I have paid over £100 in lasers.
Finally i found a brand new on ebay about £30 including postage.
The seller was very helpfull and the installation was very easy.
I had a new like playstation in 10\'
The address of the sellers web is http://www.consoleparts.co.uk.

Just want to mention that Sony is a fine company but for some reason they make PS2\'s like shit.
I will be heading off to this site myself, now...

I give up. I don\'t know if my game\'s glitched or my PS2 is busted. I\'m playing Def Jam Fight for New York and after the first three fights I played, it stopped loading fights. In every mode.
I\'m going to have to try it at a friend\'s house and then figure a way to exchange it. God damn I\'m pissed...

My ps2 is having problems again. It can suck my hairy balls *grabs screw driver for the 5th time*

Anyone have problems with the link at the top of the page? My browser seems to cut half of the left side off *shakes fist at Netscape*

I\'m having a problem that most definitley isn\'t that. I did all of that crap, opened it up and everything -- but the actual disk holder won\'t even come out. This is a problem that needs help...help me!

Um, care to clarify the problem? The disk tray won\'t come out?

Just today I try opening up the PS2 and did what the linked said to do. When I got to turning the white gear, I turned it 4 clicks for the first 3 times because none of discs would load as I tested them three times. When I turned it 4 clicks clockwise for the 4th time, I accidently knocked off the case of the PS2 and it yanked off the ribbon connecting the power and open/close buttons to the chasis...
The ribbon isn\'t broken or ripped apart at all. It looks like it got distached from the chasis or whatever that is call. How do I hook the ribbon back to the chasis and where do I hook it back to? Any helps would do.
