Title: Got a Dreamcast
Post by: Eiksirf on February 02, 2004, 10:43:08 AM
At $19.99, the hard part was finding one in stock somewhere.

Well I finally grabbed a Dreamcast and picked up Shenmue and Sega Bass Fishing (came with a memory card for $3) to go with it.  But looking through the games at the store, hardly anything was jumping out at me.

What are the titles to get as far as Dreamcast is concerned?

Only games I\'ve truly enjoyed on my Dreamcast system are Shenmue 1 & 2, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure 2 and Virtua Tennis 1 & 2.

I didn\'t like MSR, Ferrari 355, DOA2 or Soul Calibur all that much and they\'re supposed to be system sellers. Oh well, the DC was worth a buy for Shenmue 1 and 2 alone. Great games.

Many of the really good ones were ported over at one point or another to other consoles.  Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue II, Sonic Adventure II (questionable as far as quality goes), Virtua Tennis 2K2, the NFL2K series, but some of the best fighters on the system were never ported over such as Street Fighter III Third Strike, Power Stone 2, Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves (also available on Neo Geo), and the first Soul Calibur.  Chu Chu Rocket can\'t be beat either since it\'s only 4.99 or less on ebgames.com (http://ebgames.com/ebx/groups/15games50bucks/dreamcast.asp).  :)  There are many others to boot.

I have JSRF on Xbox and Sonic Heroes for Cube, so that kinda covers Sonic too.  But maybe Soul Calibur or Chu Chu Rocket.  A Street Fighter game would be fun.  Least now I have an idea where to go.

Is Sonic Heroes any good? How good is it compared to Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure2?

Sonic Heroes doesn\'t impress me, but I can\'t compare to the others.  I\'ve only played SA1 a little bit.  The controls aren\'t very good, I can never get into the game.

Jet Set Radio (NOT FUTURE! Big difference!!!!!!)

Sonic Adventure

Soul Calibur

Street Fighter 3 : Third Strike

Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Shenmue

Virtua Fighter 3

Capcom vs SNK

House of the Dead 3

Typing of the Dead

Samba De Amigo

Marvel vs Capcom 2

Ikaruga

Cannon Spike

Skies of Arcadia

NFL 2K

Power Stone 2

The list goes on and on.

Typing of the Dead?

Some of those are definitely interesting.  I\'d have to find House of the Dead with the gun I guess.  Did the gun work well? I know the GunCon 2 was kinda shaky when aimed at the edge of the screen for PS2 with Time Crisis 3.

Seems like a real system for fighters.  That might be fun to collect some of the fighting games.  Soul Calibur and Street Fighter definitely call to me.

Samba de Amigo

Sonic Adventure

Jet Set Radio (plays differently than JSRF)

Grandia II (ps2 version is lacking)

Chu Chu Rocket

I do recommend Skies of Arcadia, but since you have a GC I suggest you go with the GC version.  Less random encounters which will save you hours, plus there are some challenging bosses not found in the DC version.

Power Stone

Unicron, go ahead and rent it.  I played a bit of it at a store and it handled much in the same way SA 1 & 2 do.  (A good thing, imo)

I havent found a game rental anywhere near my area in Cyprus unfortunately :(

I ve playied SA1 and SA2 on DC in the past and I didnt have any problem with the controls either. Its a matter of getting used to I think.Good to hear it handles like the previous. Thanks Ginko.:)
I might try it at a frend\'s XBOX if he gets it.He is a fan of the Sonic series.

Typing of the Dead  = House of the Dead 2, \'cept with a keyboard. You type out words, instead of shooting. Very addictive.

As for the system of fighting games. it is and I did collect most of them. The same in the case of a Japanese Saturn. It has the best version of Street Fighter Alpha 3.

I bought mine at Gamestop with 2 controllers, 2 VMUs, 2 Rumble Packs, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, SNK vs Capcom, Sega Smashpack Volume 1, Ferrari F355, and Sega GT for less than like 75 bucks total, SF3 was 30 bucks.

Nows a good time to buy a Dreamcast, it\'s kinda like knowing the ending to a good movie, lol.

oh, and sup, im new.

Yeah, PS2 Grandia II is a POS.

BTW, get Super Puzzle Fighter II and especially Rayman II. It\'s multiplatform but the DC version\'s the best.

POS?? Whats is that?

It\'s a POS because it\'s a shoddy port, that could have been at least on par with the DC version.

A great, linear turn-based RPG that scored 9\'s from many journalists, but garnered 4/10 and similar scores when ported to PS2. That\'s sad. BTW.. POS = piece of s**t if that\'s what your question was.
