Title: Overheating?
Post by: Metal Gear on February 08, 2004, 11:17:39 AM
How can you tell if your ps2 is overheating and what are the symptoms?

I was playing Ratchet and Clank 2 yesterday and when I shut it off(I played for about half an hour) I felt the bottom of the ps2 and it was warm(not hot......just warmish) the side was also warmish.

When I play other games(like Tony Hawk underground) it stays on for 2 hours and when I feel(I made a habbit of feeling after every session of playing) it\'s normal.

I guess everyone\'s ps2 bottom is warmish after playing but my main question is:How do you actually know if it\'s overheating?

Thanx in advance.

Mine had an overheating problem. It got really hot at the bottom and the fan was only blowing cold air out. When it got hot it wouldn\'t boot any games until I switched it off for 20 mins to cool down.

I tried to get it repaired but the guy couldn\'t sort it so got a reconditioned one for £20 from him and let him keep mine for spare parts etc.

If the PS2 is overheating it will shut down by itself and the buttons (reset/eject) will start to blink.

When I actually played my PS2, I used to leave it on all day and it still works fine. You definitely should check the fan.

I\'ve checked the fan and it works fine. When I was feeling at the back the fan blew out cold air.

Also....when I was playing Ratchet and clank 2 I noticed slowdown in places I didn\'t expect it to appear.Maybe that\'s because the ps2 is getting too warm.

Am I being paranoid here or do I have serious problem with my ps2?

Wouldn\'t it make more sense if the fans blew out warm air.If the fan blew out warm air that would be too prevent it from overheating.Mine blows out cold air, wich should be used to cool down the ps2.

*Metal Gear is confused*

If the fans blew out warm air it would show that at least they are doing their job.

I\'ve said it before, the PS2 is just plagued with technical problems...

Yes, but from browsing around this forum alone, it is easy to see that the PS2 has had far more than it\'s fair share.

*coff* so has the X box

What with old DVD drives & HDD Not being able to play new games.

Both well documented and wide spread.
