Title: Is EA the next Microsoft?... in game terms.
Post by: dawid22 on February 12, 2004, 01:41:29 AM
Remember the Racing Game Lamborghini ?  Well check what happened to the game:

Source - IGN

Lamborghini
Publisher: Majesco
Developer: Rage Software
Original Release Date: Spring 2003

The Official Story:
Thanks to a sweet licensing deal with Automobili Lamborghini in 2002, Rage Software was set to release the official Lamborghini game. Not only would it include every car made by the high-end company, but also the brand new MurciƩlago, which was the first new car the company had made in 11 years. With the ability to drive 100 miles in 30 minutes (averaging 200mph), the MurciƩlago was cleaning up press awards and trade awards. To make it that much more authentic, Lamborghini\'s chief designers and technicians were going to be working with Rage Software.

With plans for online racing capabilities, Lamborghini looked to have it in the bag. Unfortunately, Rage Software never made it that far and ended up closing its doors in January 2003. The Lamborghini game was sold off and the team was broken up. According to information available to us at this time, there has been no announcement as to who bought up the property.

Behind the Scenes:
According to sources close to the project, EA bought up the Lamborghini license to kill it. EA wanted to have the exclusive game for driving a Lamborghini in the Need for Speed series and bought out the competition. Half of the team that worked on Lamborghini is now working on Juiced.

Current Status:
Cancelled.

I was excited about this game... damm EA:mad:

That Lamborghini game is also the reason the the Diablo was removed from the PAL version of GT3 (NTSC JAP version has it). :(

EA are a bunch of pricks, killed Bullfrog, Westwood, bla bla bla. I hope they stay away from DICE.

But they still can not be compared to the 3w1l that is Microsoft.

So just because a shitty Lamborghini game was released way back whenever that automatically makes all future Lamborghini games shitty? Yeah, makes sense. About as much sense as chopping off your fingers is going to cure a cold.

For the game franchises/genres I like, EA screws it up bigtime.
Their F1 games are horrendous and they have acquired the Bond license up til 2010 to fvck that up too. It should have just stayed with the original Rare team. EA is imo just a buncha money greedy corporate suits.

It was made by the same people, so yes. Crappy developers don\'t magically learn to make good games all of the sudden. If it was cancelled, doesn\'t that already give you an idea how much it sucked?

Use your brain kiddo.

Rage games has always been nice graphics but little substance. I\'m pretty sure this would be in the same mould. It\'s no big loss as I see it.

The Need for Speed series has been like that most of the time as well but nobody complained as well as a ton of other racing games out there.

Nobody complained? Yeah right.

I haven\'t liked one single game in the NFS series since the very first one.

I enjoyed the NFS series, but EA has nothing new to offer and is becomming stagnatant.  The last NFS game I enjoyed was NFS2, but that was way back in 1997 and had very shit graphics.

EA has become to big now and don\'t really give a shit about the gamers... it\'s all about money now.  (That is why I will always love Nintendo, they still actually care about their gamers.  Not that Sony doesn\'t, but Nintendo and I go way back)

Japanese developers=They usually make games with character and express their creativity
American and European developers=Usually make games as good as possible just to sell or make games that are just easy to sell

that might be a bit harsh to say,..but i agree for the most part japanese games are more polished than the american games. i would say even the best american made game still falls short when compared to the best japanese made game. Of cousre this depends on category,..as i know alot will say but look at halo!

that said i feel the american developers have the fps category on lock. But just in general the japanese games are just made better.
