I\'ve read somewhere that SH4 went into developement right after SH2. So SH3 was kind of a quick fix game, an inbetween sideproject. No wonder it felt a bit \'off\' to me.......SH4\'s been the big fish all along.
Oh, and btw, real sweet by Konami to bring it to the Xbox as well. And also ; RE looks really cool yes, but also a bit like a crossing between a watered down Half Life 2 engine and RE characters.

I thought it was the same team members until I\'ve seen this post from a board member at GA.
SH4 went into development right after SH2 was completed, SH3 was done by different team members, the core of SH2\'s team though were working on SH4 though while SH3 was in development. This game clearly doesn\'t take place in Silent Hill though, or its a different time period because you\'ve got traffic all over the place now. Its not empty foggy streets anymore.
Also some information about the town.
Well according to Yamaoka the city the game takes place in now is Ashfield which is a townside out of Silent Hill. The places they show in the trailer really doesn\'t look much like Silent Hill, or atleast not sections of it that we\'ve seen so far.

Like jason Voorhees from the friday the 13th movies, the town of silent hill keeps coming back to eat away your sanity and chill you to the bone. With the realese of SH4: the room, the scariest series ever will take you into far darker places than any game has yet dared. Producer Akira Yamaoka Promises that SH4 will disturb players in a profound new way by taking away safety of their confort zones - the very place they live.
The terror of SH4 begins where the protagonist, henry townsend, feels the most secure- his apartment.
One day, he discovers that he is traped in his home and spends countless days confind within. His sanity eroding, he takes the first exit he can find: a portal that has mysteriosly appeared in his bathroom. The portal takes him to other worlds filled with ghouls and demons, and he must brave these hideous locations if he is to find out what insidious force has trapped him in his home.
The titular home will grow more warped and mutated as Henry proceeds through his quest, offering less and less safety from the horros that lurk in the portal.
SH4 will offer players less solace from the terrors as well, thanks to a number of new features desigend to keep the game as intense as possible. For the first time ever, much of the game is veiwed in first person to involve players more directly in action. The claustrophobic room will be seen exclusivly in this veiwpoint, as will about half the game. If the action gets to frenzied, players will no longer be able to pause the game and take a breather. The inventory screen is now real-time window that pops up for item access, but does not stop the action onscreen. If a monster is charging at you, quickly finding the right wepon to fend it off is the only way to survive.
Of course, the combat systum has been modified to help henrys chances of survival. Players will be able to adjust the strength of the blows mid swing with a feature akin to a golf or gladious. One press of the button will start henrys wepon swinging, and another press at the right time will dictate the force of the blow. However, there will be no meter to indicate the perfect moment, so learning through practice is the only option.
Yamaoka was quite secretive as to how the room ties on with the rest of the series, but he did say many familiar locations will show up in even more horrifying forms. The visuals are darker and grittier then before, and much of it has the look of scratched old film flickering from an antique projector at a midnight move. Based on everything we have seen, Silent hill 4 will have you checking the dark corners of your own home, and wondering just how safe you really are in your room.

^^impossible. maria died at the end unles you\'re talking about ....SPOILERS! ...the ending where they leave together...end spoiler..which i don\'t think is the correct ending..the correct one which is the one the writers will probably go with is the one with SPOILERS..the little girl..end spoiler.
On another note and little off topic i look at silent hill 3 & 4. And when the res. evil remake came out i thought noway ps2 can handle that..but now i think the ps2 could handle it..if done it might not look exactly like the remake but i don\'t think there would be much difference..same with res evil 4.
i still feel the silent hill series is better than res evil..i hope they never go the route of having rocket launchers & missles,. keep the gameplay mentally horrifying..with only a few weapons ..plank, handgun & shotgun..period.

Akira Yamaoka
In charge of the Silent Hill project is the multitalented Akira Yamaoka. He\'s the producer of the games, but that\'s not all -- he\'s also the musician behind their extremely memorable soundtracks. Silent Hill 3 included a soundtrack disc, and recently asked if The Room would, he commented, "Even if Konami doesn\'t want to, I\'ll do it."

I wonder how their technical approach with SH4 is. Are they, as with SH2, coding for PS2 and then making the Xbox version or the other way around ?
Actually, I was really surprised Konami is bringing SH4 to the Xbox. At the IGN Metal Gear board they\'re bashing the box like mad (becuz of the bad Xbox Substance sales and the sloppy porting), yet they keep nagging on how the PS2 is keeping MGS3 from looking res textured......:o
Anyway, I\'m not really biased .... I got a PS2, Xbox and a 3,2 ghz PC.... but despite all that, the "what-if-MGS3-were-Xbox coded- from scratch.." question remains in the back of my mind.... :confused:

Hey, I\'ve got the new information from a Japanese magazine.
Spoiler:
Her name is "Irene Gulvin".
She lives next door to Henry.
She peeps into Henry\'s room through the window, and also, Henry can peep into her room through the window. (I don\'t know what this means though)
Henry can take her with him when exploring.
It is not sure whether we can make that decision or not...maybe she comes with him as Maria does. But, it says she can help fighting with Henry

Konami says that one of the new action concepts in SH4 is "Chasing".

I guess the one that chases Henry will be that long black-haired woman.

Silent Hill 4: The Room will see release in Japan for PS2 and Xbox on June 17, Famitsu Weekly reports this week. The announcement of a Japanese date suggests a more traditional worldwide release schedule for the latest game in Konami\'s horror adventure series, since the game\'s North American release is planned for this fall. Silent Hill 3 for reasons still not fully understood, showed up in Europe some months before near-simultaneous Japanese and North American releases.
Along with the release date, Konami revealed a few more details about one of the supporting characters in the game. Irene Galvin (a tentative transliteration) is the next-door neighbor of the main character, Henry Townsend, who finds himself trapped in his haunted apartment.
As it turns out, barring the doors doesn\'t completely cut him off from human contact -- he can communicate with Irene through a cracked window, and she\'ll eventually travel with him into some of the game\'s strange extradimensional spaces. The player can\'t control her directly, but she\'ll tag along and assist Henry in certain areas.
We\'ll have more news of Silent Hill 4 very soon, since Famitsu confirms that the game is near completion. Look forward to it.

Still....the SH series lacks one thing....
Truly blood and gore ; you know, dripping innards and guts
in substantial amounts of puddles blood. I know alot of blood
TRACES have been depicted visually in SH3 but.... it all remained
kind of \'flat\' and the pieces of corpses more or less dried up
and abstract. Like that RE4 render where this guy digs his chainsaw into Leon ; you can see actual masses of bloody flesh
flying around....in SH it\'s remained a bit abstract until now....
