Title: Bios update
Post by: Nolaws on February 16, 2004, 09:35:50 AM
i am reading how to proceed..

http://www.asus.com/support/english/techref/bios/afudos.aspx

so i am wondering, if i  put AFUDOS.exe and the *.rom file on a CD and boot from CD-rom (by changing the order of boot sequence in the bios) will this work ?  or is there something special that i must do?

There\'s no special reason to boot from the CD-Rom drive, in fact I think it would only complicate matters.  If you are trying to flash your BIOS, all you need to do is make a minimal boot disk (3.5" floppy) that will get you to DOS mode.  Copy the flash program + rom data to the floppy, then boot with the floppy.

Does your PC not have a floppy drive?

Yes, operating system changes are pretty much the only time I ever use the floppy drive anymore.  I think PC manufacturers can\'t get rid of them for this very reason.

I think booting from the CD-ROM drive won\'t work if you\'re trying to boot to DOS.  DOS needs a CD-ROM driver installed to read from the CD-ROM drive, and it can\'t install it because it\'s on the CD-ROM... Catch 22.

anyway, i\'ve gotten my floppy from my old box, and installed it to my new PC.

I\'ve installed the newest bios for my mobo.

I got way less crash now in morrowind (wanted to test that game on my new PC hehe) and  didnt experience any glitch in KotoR so far.
