Title: Deletion of zero posters...
Post by: (e) on February 21, 2004, 04:24:23 PM
We have over 1,300 members that have zero posts.
(26 pages, 50 per page)

We  have 3150 members with less than 50 posts.
(63 pages, 50 per page)

Wouldnt deleting them save alot of space, and make the forum a bit faster?

Also; We have 250 members that have more than 300 posts. Im guessing the 3,817 members that dont have 300+ post here never will again.

I am aware there are regulars that have less than 300 posts though.

Should at least get rid of the zero posters and people who haven\'t posted for a couple of years.

Would free up some names if nothing else.

You know at one point I offered my name to seven.  I\'m really glad he didn\'t take my offer.  I think it would really piss someone off that hasn\'t posted in a year or so that decides to come back only to see that their name has been deleted.  I\'m a testament to those people that can come back years later to post again.

I have seen some zero post members come here but they tend to lurk around. Alostpairofsocks is one of these who I notice online quite regularly, he/she has zero posts.

I see no point in keeping their names around. I say, once we move to the other website and we notice more traffic coming in, we delete any zero-post members, that way new members, who plan on posting will be able to get the name of their choice. No sense in making this place like AOL where the members have to register names such as \'Joblo2845\' because \'Joblo\' was taken and so was \'Joblo2843\'.

Yeah, actually.. I had to ask MM to kill the other Blade account that was on here because it had been taken by a guy who registered here in 2000 and posted once.

You do have to be careful when deleting accounts, though.. for cases like that of Alostpairofsocks where they view the forum but don\'t post here. Perhaps the admins could create a notice that links to a thread where people can post a single "I\'m here" message in a huge thread so that you know who still reads PSX2Central and who hasn\'t in years. Give it a week or two after posting the notice, and then prune the zero-post users.

Eh, just don\'t delete me and I don\'t care.  It sounds like a good idea though.

Why do you need an account to lurk?

I guess so you get updated on new threads, but I just don\'t see what fun it is to read a forum you are no part of.

So Im guessing its a no?

Im sure the forum mods have some way of doing this, like finding out the last time they were signed on or something- if not recent (6 months) than its considered inactive.

This is probably an old topic but in order to make sure they\'re deleting the right account they should PM or send an e-mail to that user giving them 2 links 1. to keep the name 2. to delete the name grant some of them would either A) Delete the e-mail/PM B) Be stupid and click yes to keep the name or C) actually be smart and just delete the name just my opinion on it.
