Wow. What an amazing shot.. It doesn\'t even look real.

That looks sweet. Too bad I won\'t see the day where we can travel to the planets like travelling to England.
-
HEY! Where are the white billowy clouds? Nothing\'s higher than clouds!
-
B-e-a-utiful.
-
It almost looks like an optical iillusion.
Can you imagine being able to see that in person one day?
-
truly amazing! i\'ve always been into stuff like this..if i\'m flipping through the channels & if the science channel is showing something regarding the universe (blackholes, galaxies.etc) i\'m dead on it! :nerd: That image looks so fake..and it\'s a puzzle how the rings manage to stay in such unison around saturn..i mean it\'s a perfect ring!
-
IN the article they say they are going to have more and more pics more often now that it is getting closer. What is so wild is the shadow on the ring.
-
It\'s "ghostly" the pic does look fake... maybe it is.
-
It does look fake yeh, like something u would have as ur wallpaper. but i think its probably real
-
looking at the pic the shadow the planet is casting on the rings looks weird..like the shadow was just pasted on them..still a stellar photo.
-
I don\'t believe its real.
The light source is from the bottom right.. yet the shadow on the rings points towards the bottom left.. hmm I donno.. seems like a strange pic to me.
-
Looks fake mostley cause theres only 1 star in the entire picture........
-
^^^That is a moon.

because it wouldnt make sense. If the sun shines on the bottom left, its blocking the top and bottom of the ring, just we cant see the top. I think its real.
The rings stay there because of gravity. why i dont know. guess the same reason we have gravity. Its amazing how huge it is and its only gas.
-
Amazing pic, I would hate to estimate the cost of a telescope/camera that could take pics that detailed from so far away.
:nerd:
-
I\'ve been told the reason it looks that way. Donno if its true but it sounds good to me.
That image of saturn was a "long exposure", something like 72 hours or more. That\'s why everything looks so smooth.
-
^^ also could be there\'s no air pollution in outer space..everything you see is crystal clear.

c\'mon people i know that! :p i didn\'t think i\'d have to explain it! sheesh! i used to live in the urban area of jersey..newark...Now with all the bright lights & POLLUTION you can\'t see any of the stars..when i would travel down south i/e north carolina you could see all the stars with your eye..even mars if you looked close enough..because of less lights & air pollution..there i explained it. :)
-
nobody better not try to use that as a sig or i will bust a Clip in yo A$$! :p
-
Didn\'t even think about doing it till you said that.

In order to get stars the camera would have to have an exposure FAR longer than what this one was. THe planet would be a ton brighter than a star so the planet would be blown out if you saw stars. Then you would definitely know it was fake.

Explanation: Variable star V838 Monocerotis lies near the edge of our Milky Way Galaxy, about 20,000 light-years from the Sun. Still, ever since a sudden outburst was detected in January 2002, this enigmatic star has taken the center of an astronomical stage while researchers try to understand where it fits into the picture of stellar evolution. As light from the stellar flash echoes across pre-existing dust shells around V838 Mon, its appearance changes dramatically. Revealed in a sharp snapshot recorded in February by the Hubble\'s Advanced Camera for Surveys, this portion of the dust shell is about six light-years in diameter. But because light reflected from the dust follows only a slightly indirect path compared to the direct line-of-sight to the star, the light echoes visible now are only lagging about two years behind the outburst itself. Astronomers expect the expanding echoes to continue to light up the dusty environs of V838 Mon for at least the rest of the current decade.

Cool how they use the 4 point star filter to shoot snapshots of stars... :)

I always knew they would find water on mars!;)
