February 27, 2004 - Electronic Arts today officially announced the first details of Goldeneye 2 (which we reported on two days ago), a game in which players will experience Bond like never before -- as a evil, drop-out 00 agent.
Gamers take on the role of an agent who\'s dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality, and who then subsequently joins the ranks of the criminal underground. Joining up with super-villain Auric Goldenfinger, players battle for control of the world\'s greatest criminal organization.
After patting EA on the back for its high critical marks for the recently released James Bond Everything or Nothing, John Riccitiello, EA\'s president and COO, said, "And we\'re not done yet -- today we\'re announcing that we are developing GoldenEye 2 (working title), a game where players become the ultimate villain in the Bond universe."
Under development by EA LA, Goldeneye 2 will appear on multiple consoles (no specific ones were revealed, but we suspect PS2, Xbox and GameCube), and is due this holiday season under the EA GAMES label.
"Everything or Nothing\'s success continues to showcase the enormous strength of our collaborative relationship with EA and Danjaq," added Travis Rutherford, senior vice president of MGM Consumer Products and Interactive. "We look forward to continued success with this fall\'s release of a new chapter in the Bond saga and the creation of another blockbuster franchise in GoldenEye 2."
Expect to hear more on Goldeneye 2 around E3.

^ My thoughts exactly.....
EA\'d better not screw it up.
-
EA\'s games are improving IMO.
The latest EA games are pretty good IMO.
LOTR:ROTK, NFS:U, SSX3 etc.
-
That\'s not the point. They make games by the \'mass commercialized formula\'. All they do is throw in all kindsa
stuff into those Bond games just to appeal to a broad as possible consumer market with ok graphics ;
- the official license and mugshots ; check
- updated NFS racing thrown in ; check
- flying a heli or aircraft \'on rails\' ; check
- a quick fix mix of all sortsa gameplay styles of
which none excell ; check
It just lacks a \'soul\' a certain vision which games like Metal Gear and Splinter Cell do have. That was the magic of Rare\'s GoldenEye ; even without the voice acting and superficial bells n whistles, it had a very focussed gamedesign.
Now, going by reviews.... EA is improving ... but still ; it\'s only improving on top of that same formula. I am kinda tempted to go and buy that new E or N game, but we still pay the full price for a, from what i\'ve heard, short single player campaign.
-
Sounds like a really cool concept.
I love being the bad guy.
-
the REAL "bad guy" is razor ramon ;) anyway i heard all of the lotr games by ea are great ...freedom fighters was another one that\'s gotten good reviews,..but yeah i kinda agree with what knotter 8 is sayin.

Eh i have the feeling that they are going to screw it up. They shouldnt call it goldeneye. If its not rare thats making it, or based off the goldeneye world then it should be something different. If they do screw up, then they are ruining a name, not to mention that it has nothing to do with the first game at all.
Meh...

No Rare No Care.
-
I second that. Rare has both of my favorite 1st person shooters in Perfect Dark and Goldeneye. (console only)
PC has much better to offer, but Rare ruled.
-
There\'s no reason for EA to dig up that specific Brosnon movie other than to capitilize off the original. I\'m certain they\'ll put more time into the presentation than all the little gameplay niches that made the 1st one so good.
I mean proximity means that could literally stick to any surface in the game? A boatload of gadgets and weapons that were actually useful.. looong ass levels. Those are Rare qualities, no pun intended.

Um.... maybe it was something big back then, but getting that in a game today isn\'t that much problem. Even EA could do it.
Barely. :)

I remember that one level with the big control room with all the TVs hanging from the top. You stick a PM on any surface on the rack up there, along with non static objects like guns and trucks, just thought it was some nice programming for back then. Plus you could shoot each one down for a nice touch. Still a toss up if EA will make the environment as interactive.
-
Yeah, the proximity mines were friggin cool ! They were even better than Metal Gear Solid\'s C4. I\'ve made inquiries if proximity mines will be in Killzone ; though no word on that yet.
I\'ve been watching some more of that Bond everything or nothing footage.....it gets tempting to actually get the game ; EA\'s getting better at it  ... but indeed yes... from previews i understand that the levels are rather short and quick. I\'m getting SplinterCell PT in March for sure. Maybe Bond EoN with that.... or maybe a Cube with MGS TwinSnakes....?

Pfffffftttt James Bond = Suck3rsorus !
No wait a second....
I am the Resident 007 fanboy....
oh yeah it had better GOOD EA or not even that Deal you have with the DEVIL will protect you ...FOR ME...
Muahahhaahahahahahah.
-
I dont know any other game that made proximity mines fun/useful
-
While man I remember me and my friends having 4 way death matches. I remember the tournaments we would have on the block.
Man goldeneye was that deal. I just don\'t see it ever happening again. I have a strong feeling they will screw it up. All this time and no sequal. I would rather see it next gen.
:(

That would be a good idea i suppose. I dont think anybody could get it right except for rare and maybe not even them. Perfect Dark, where have you been?

EA doesn\'t make good console FPS, in fact they don\'t even come close.
