Rockstar Games announces that it will release Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas exclusively for the PlayStation 2 in October.
After registering a number of potential Grand Theft Auto titles earlier this year, Rockstar Games has today confirmed that the next game in the series will be Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A PlayStation 2 exclusive, the game is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 19, and in Europe on October 22.
"In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people\'s expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," said Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games. "Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can\'t wait to get the game into players\' hands."
"We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values," added Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North.

That\'s wo years that have gone into the game, twice as long as it took for them to make Vice City. If this game isn\'t fantastic people are going to be disappointed.
-
I can\'t pronounce the name so I won\'t bother with it.
-
wow, cant wait for this, although i dont c what they can do to improve on vice city the game had everything...

Andreas...
Is it an-dr-eeeee--aaas..?
Get to work on Max Payne 3, Rockstar.
-
think of it this way... San Andreyus= San Andreas.
-
Improving on a kick ass game,that\'s what I like to hear.
Jumpman: Did you really think Max Payne 2 was better than GTA:Vice City?
I finished Max Payne 1 but after playing Max Payne 2 for an hour I lost interest, maybe it\'s just me?
-
I love the Max Payne games, so yes I enjoyed Max Payne 2 more than GTA:VC. Do I think it\'s a better game? No. But from start to finish I was just beyond addicted to it and GTA was just a little fun here and there for a longer period of time. What a true action game Payne is.
-
3 of the same games in the same generations while they sure are milking this boy til the ps2 dies.
I hate it when they do that.
I likely won\'t get it. I was looking forward to it next gen.
-
Screw the GTA series. Unless its got a smooth framerate thats higher then 20 then I won\'t be playing it. Last two gave me a headache.
I want Manhunt 2 Rockstar.
-
Call me jaded, but I have yet to see a Rockstar game that had any real substance. GTA? Manhunter? SoE? Max Payne? Almost all of them relayed on \'shock value\', \'cept for Max Payne and the dream levels in that brought the game down a bunch. It amazes me people eat up the GTA series, even though it features a bad frame-rate, terrible control and bad car physics. What exactly is so appealing about that? Oh, I forget you get to kill hookers.
-
The dream levels in Max Payne 2 were a reflecting of his dark and troubled mind and they were beautifully executed. Far from bringing it down like the ones in MP1 did. Guess you just wanted to shoot more people rather than digging into it\'s wonderful story. :(
-
I wouldn\'t call the story wonderful but certainly good. Max Payne is a good series and I hope they make many more, although they need to seriously make them longer lasting.
GTA: San Andreas will be tons of fun I think

Shenmue 1 was golden. I deeply enjoyed the 11 fight sequences and the long waits for a certain period of a day in order to complete a required task. The pop ups from 5 feet infront of you were an excellent touch too.

Its the freedom of the game. The violence, the origionality, its just a kickass series.

Jesus Spudz, just give it up like you did in the lotr thread. It\'s getting really pathetic and incredibly annoying how you try to flame me and fail MISERABLY everytime. Almost harassment.
Anyone with a shred of brain material could of realized that I was joking.
Ok, hypothetically, let\'s say I wasn\'t joking. I denounced a game, which I have admitted to be an enormously enjoyable series in the past, simply because I cannot pronounce the name properly. THAT JUST MAKES A LOT OF ****ING SENSE MAN.
I also noticed you tried refuting something LIC said, which is pointless since he could shit on a Mars bar and it would be far more intelligent than you. You sound like you\'re in dire need for some guidance, so I\'ll give you some. When you see me, LIC, or anyone post and you disagree or find some flaw in it, just leave it alone. You\'ve become a sad little novelty of this forum recently.

Brain Dead Hero "Ok...."

I\'m going to say this one time. Spudz, leave the insults out of the \'Main Forum\'. This is not the place for your little antics. Trust me, this will be discussed in the Staff Forum if you continue to do it. It\'s getting old and now your ruining perfectly good topics.

Violence is not original. It\'s been done in every form of entertainment. It also does not always equal good fun. If it is pulled off with grace, then yes, but when the gameplay has fundmental flaws such as control / graphics, then the violence only serves to distract the player from the obvious flaws of the game\'s engine..
-
I for one enjoyed all the GTA games, and if this one is a significant step forward, I\'ll be definately buying it. I\'ll probably end up buying it even if it\'s only a bit of an improvement.

Ok, so you don\'t like it. But you must be able to see that it must be a good game if so many people love it, even though you can\'t see the beauty of it. Just because you can\'t see something doesn\'t mean it isn\'t there.

Interesting Note: LiC\'s actual shit IS Mars bars. So if he were to hypothetically "shit on a mars bar" he would just be stacking two mars bars. Which could, in theory, be more intelligent than a human.
BTW, This intelligence is heightened by the presence of almonds. Of which you did not mention so I assume were not a part of the equation.
-
LIC can SHIT mars bars ?
So THATS the reason why he offered free unlimited mars bars in the sfaff room.

Apparently, (e) disregarded my warning to him...

Don\'t confuse the collective mass of casual gamers with someone who has any taste in good games. I mean good god how many times do you see horrible games selling extremely well. People are easily won over with gimmicks. GTA got old fast and it didn\'t help that the gameplay seriously hindered any chance of enjoying the game.

Whhhaaaoooooo if thats not Eliteism ... i don\'t know what is.
-
GTA is a 9.0 quality game. Overrated but still has it\'s moments. Let\'s leave it at that.
-
I myself can\'t wait. I really like non linear games, or almost non linear ;). The ability to do almost as you wish has always hooked me. My question is, playstation exclusive hurrah. BUT WHAT ABOUT PC? There has to be a pc version please
What do you guys think?
-
I\'m not one to believe that because the masses like something then it means it\'s good. Was the original Mortal Kombat good? Not really, but the violence sold it and I think the same can be said about GTA.
-
I d like to hear again what makes GTA so great and unique.
Its a superb game for a past time but it certaintly isnt a game expressing creativity.
It never impressed me.
I prefer spending my time trying to imporve my skills on Devil May Cry1 on Dante Must Die mode that truelly shows the marvel of its gameplay mechanics, or even better REZ a game purely playing with the senses.THATS what I call originality and creativity
Games like GTA underestimate gamers\' intelligence.Gamers arent just a banch of guys that want to KILL KILL SPLATTER BLOOD SHOOT SLAY F*CK etc in a virtual world.
I want to see a game that shows not just skills in programming and presenting realistically violence but talent and imagination
-

My true colors show
Edit: If you want to see my statement in action go play enter the matrix. The game sold extremely well and I know a lot of people that love it, but good god if you can\'t see that the game was poorly designed and very rushed then you are blind. It\'s a rent title at best.
-
Rez? Creative, sure but the sensual aspect is barely there. Not only that but its not that hard. I have it and i do like it but i dont think its all of what i thought you were trying to say.
As far as the GTA series goes, I enjoyed them and then at certain times they just bored me. Its hard to say what makes the game truely stand out as a decent game because somebody will always nit pick at something because THEY think its not that good.
For instance, LIC, who i highly respect (most of the time), doesnt always fully listen. Either that or you dont care. Hopefully the latter my friend:Violence is not original. It\'s been done in every form of entertainment. It also does not always equal good fun. If it is pulled off with grace, then yes, but when the gameplay has fundmental flaws such as control / graphics, then the violence only serves to distract the player from the obvious flaws of the game\'s engine..
He never said violence was original. And i see no problem in terms of control. Not only that, but i also dont see how the car phisics are S***. Its not meant to be real, but i know you know that already.
Violence with grace? Give me an example because i dont know how you would distinguish between the two types if there are any at all. The game is supposed to be almost slapstick type gameplay. If thats not what you like then thats that.
The graphics.... well yes we can all agree that they are by far nowhere near great and im almost pondering if they are even good, but "supposedly" RS is juicing out all it can to do what they are doing now. Im not so sure but im not going to argue that point
Basically, there arent too many games like this one in terms of its completely free gameplay, for the lack of a better word, zany music and crazy almost stupid humor/game play. Im not praising this game by any means, but i AM saying that it is not complete horse shit, fresh from the donkey\'s ass.
-
Shenmue??? never played it,have you got another game that has real substance I might have played?
P.S. I liked Mortal Kombat,don\'t forget there were fighting games like Fatal Fury :( back then.
-
We\'ll have to agree on disagree\'ing.
I can almost see the appeal of GTA, due to the fact you are in an active virtual world, playing as a hitman. What else could you want? Right? Well, my complaints are based on engine. It has fundemental flaws that have never been improved upon. Yet, this next one is almost gurantee\'d to be a hit. Why? Simple, violence sells. Like I mentioned earlier, Mortal Kombat is a great example of this. The first game was not that great, but due to the blood and over-the-top violence it was a hit, even if the fighting engine wasn\'t on par with Capcom or SNK\'s efforts. Of course, the game went on to sell millions, become an established franchise. Eventually, Midway realized they dug themselves in a whole. The violence had become a gimmick, it wasn\'t "as appealing" and people wanted more. I think Rockstar will find themselves in the exact same position eventually. All of their hit games have been based on violence.

GTA was just a fun game. Plain and simple. I remember putting it in and just having fun racing around the city or running from the cops. Its just good mindless fun. Not everything has to be a life changing experience. Can\'t people just have fun once and a while?
-
Promo poster (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/gta4/screens.html?page=1)
So 50 Cent and Eminem are rumored to have a hand in the game\'s development (either voice actors or soundtrack)...
Does it always have to be a thuglife environment? I\'d like one GTA more focused around the mob or even big corporations... would jsut be a nice spin on it all.

Weren\'t GTA3 AND Vice City focused around the mob? What was the "Thuglife environment" of those two games?
-
I can\'t wait to be like my favorite rappers and shoot some hommies.
-
Yea true, the mob parts seem to pass over my head more for some reason. The ones that stick out in my mind is the Spanish "cojones" guy and all the slums. I\'m thinking more a game centered around Godfather III, like he\'s Pacino\'s errand boy making CEO\'s offers they can\'t refuse, etc..

That would be somewhat cool, to be honest. In all honesty, Rockstar should of waited for the next generation for this installment. It is going to be hard to make the same impact graphics wise, with such a dated engine. While this installment may keep interest alive, it could also serve to "more of the same thing" which will only hurt the franchise in the long run.
-
With how much time Rockstar have taken for GTA: SA (compared to Vice City, at least) I\'d say there\'s a chance they\'ve upgraded the graphics enginge a bit.

Yeah in GTA but man when vice city rolled around it was the same old thing over and over. I am not one for repetition. I need change. Doing the samethings over and over again can get very boring.
VC was ok but way over hyped.
-
^^^Yeah, I agree. VC was definately put out to capitalize on the hype. Still, Vice City, by itself, was a MUCH better game than GTA but seeing as how it was a sequel it lost some of that WOW factor.

Anyone know the time set this is gonna be in?
I hope its not a flash back thing- such a stupid idea. But fun.
Man, Now Im gonna go beat VC again. W0oT
-
I\'m willing to bet it will be modern times and involve a lot of Gangbangers, Chicanos, and Yakuza.
-
GTA = Mindless fun
I definitely agree with that. When I want to play something with a good story, I\'ll play the Blood Omen series.

It should be set in pre-historic times, with Drive By Dino Flint Tipped spear\'ns ;)
-
Marked that date on my calandar, cannot wait for this game to finally come out, i think it will blow the other GTA\'s away, fingers crossed :).
hopefully will have a better story line to it as well
-
I wonder what vehicles will be in this one...VC had pretty much every single one taken care of I think. Maybe they\'ll have the H2 or something?
-
I\'m hoping it will have an online mode
but I don\'t think it will unfortunately :(
