Alright - post your specs and what you\'re running.
As most people know, I am running OS X on a G3 600mhz iMac, with 256 megs of Ram. It\'s nothing special, OS X is stable but the computer is far from a workhouse. With that said, I\'m in the process of building a new computer and goin\' back to the evil empire (*cue Star Wars / March of the Empire music*) and using a MS OS. Though I will also most likely run a distro of Linux also.
With that said - post your specs, OS you are running and if you built it or bought it.
(Oh and just for fun - how many PC\'s do you own or have owned? This will be my fourth!)

Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
two 512 MB of DDR RAM (one at 333 Mhz and one at 400 Mhz)
Sounblaster Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard
128 MB DDR of Video RAM 3D Prophlet 8500 LE Hercules
this is probably the 3rd computer i am using. the first one was 200 Mhz Pentium, upgrade it to the 2nd one of AMD athlon xp 2200+ which is now had been move to my brother\'s room.
-
I\'m torn right now, on if I am going to go with dual CPU\'s or just a single CPU. A part of me really wants to go with DUAL CPU\'s - but I am not sure I want to commit the money to it. This PC is mainly inspired for runnin\' Half-Life 2 and Doom III.
:)
The only thing I know for sure is it will have two 160 gig Maxtor drives, 1 gig of Ram. The rest I am still debating on...argh, the choices.
:(

I have no paitence. I am an impulse buyer. I wll start this project Monday, when I order the case. After that, I\'ll do some research and order a new part every week.

dual kit 512 ram DDR400 (1gig ram)
radeon 9600 pro 128 megs
Antec 350pw

going dual processor if you are an app guy. if its for game, you wont notice the difference for the price invested. Put that money into ram or better graphic card.
If i were you though, i\'d buy a 9600 and wait the next generation of card wich should be out within next month or 2.
-
even better.. wait for the new line of cards. So all the current cards drop in price. I doubt u want to pay 600+ dollers for a gfx card.

commodore 64 is not a pc.. grrrrrr.
I started with a 386 SX 33. Man that was old. Ended up with a 486DX2 66 or something like that. Then got a P1 100. I had a commodore 64 too. ;)
-
Laptop:
Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
512 MB Ram
60 GB HD
Radeon IGP 345m
CD-RW/DVD Rom drive, not sure on the speed
I\'ve had two computers before this, both desktops. One was around 1 Ghz, one was around 500 MHz.

My first PC was a 486 DX2 (50 Mhz)
Second PC w as a Pentium III (450 Mhz)
8 GB Hard drive
4 MB Video Card
Current PC @ Home is a Thunderbird 1.2 Ghz
40 GB Hard drive
32 MB Video Card
Current PC @ Work is a P2 450 :(
But i\'m getting an upgrade later this week. My boss is buying everyone brand new p4 2.66 Ghz Dells. With a 17" Flat Panel monitor. :)

What does PC stand for?
-
It is a pc.. but imo, not compared to todays stardard of pc.
Which is upgradable hardware. I, like alot of people see the c64 more like a console rather then pc. Its a pre-IBM pc. :)
-
Oh forgot to answer how many computers I have owned...
Atari 400
Atari 800
Apple IIc
Commodore 64
Tandy 286 something that ran at a blazing 8Mhz with a 10 mb HD
Packard Bell 486 running at 60Mhz
AMD running at 266Mhz
Gateway P2 400Mhz Voodoo 3 video card! I miss that card.
Alienware P3 866Mhz Geforce 2 GTS - only system that is eclipsed by the Packard Bells in terms of crappiness.
Now I have my current system.
-
Soul I would differ on the dual cpu\'s. If id keeps their pattern up they will offer dual cpu support again for Doom3. Either way dual cpu\'s make life alot better. Even if a game does not support duals there are processes still running in the background. Though most games will not use both cpu\'s quite a few apps will use it.
-
some applications are ok, depending on if they use SMP. NUMA etc. A few games don\'t justifiy it and a lot of games will suffer from it, rather then have improved performance. You\'re better of getting a Amd64 cpu + OS to match..
-
I am giving serious thought to the new AMD XP 64 - but until Windows truly takes advantage of it, I\'m just not sure I want to invest the cash into it.
-
There is a 64bit version of windows xp. and older games will take more advantage from a 64bit cpu then 2 32bit ones.

And if I recall correctly that is a beta and it suffers from a severe lack of driver support. I know there was talks of an XP 64bit edition debuting in late summer, but the latest rumors suggests that consumers won\'t actually be able to buy a copy until winter. While I would love to be an early adopter (I usually am first in line for stuff), I don\'t think I can justify buying a CPU to run a BETA OS , while I hunt down drivers that may not even exist for the OS yet.
Just my two cents.
-
There’s a pre-release. There’s also drivers from NVIDIA that are for the 64bit OS. With more to follow.
Do u really think that developers will push 2 32bit cpu systems over 1 64bit cpu system that’s more likely to be the GAMERS choice system.
I can guarantee that you\'ll have less waiting for games to use 64bit cpus to the best abilities quicker then dual cpu systems.
Even if u have a 64bit cpu and a 32bit OS, Drivers blah blah you\'ll still have improved performance on older/newer games. As I explained to vid here (http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=32422&highlight=longlongs), with Dual Cpu systems u can slow performance on programs/games that aren’t encoded for SMP, NUMA etc.
Games don\'t have to be encoded to take advantage of 64bit systems.. Dual CPUs is another story.
Developers are lazy man, they don\'t wanna screw around programming for dual processors as a standard. When they can easily program for single cpu systems and the 64bit cpu owners will still get improvements.

My computer? A piece of crap.
