Title: Its almost here.. Its so close, I can taste it!
Post by: MPTheory on March 17, 2004, 06:20:07 AM
The Harddrive is days away.  I cant wait to get my final fantasy online!  Looks like Juslight and I already have a few people that will be in our party.  Is anyone else going to be there?

wow. youre the one of the few people i know that is actually really excited about this. I mean i was too and for the price that you get it with FFXI it is almost worth it but why pay more for an HD when you already have one on your PC?

If there is a lot of support for the HD then id say its a great buy, but until then ill remain sceptical.

Well, you cant play FF online without it.  It will mean upgrades and new levels for games like SOCOM II, not to mention never having to worry about buying another friggin memory card. :)

Why pay $100 for the same game while you can pay less and play a graphically better version of the same game on PC?Since  the HDD seems it wont be getting much support its not worth it I believe.

People said the same thing about the network adapter before it was released.  "Just a gimic that won\'t have any game developers supporting it"

I think the HDD will be used more than we think.  Since the network adapter is required for HDD use, sony can use it to send us previews of games.  Like the demo disks we get from OPSM.  It can be used as a marketing tool.

How many people here have deleted game saves from your memory card because of something like SOCOM II taking almost half of the space???  Now you can just place those saves on the HDD for later use.  I like that.

I don\'t think the HDD is some kind of amazing miracle plug for the ps2, but it\'s a nice addition to the gaming package.

Yeah if it had came out when ps2 was first launch. It\'s like at the end of it\'s cycle now. You won\'t see much support for it.

Just a waste of a $100 if you ask me.

Yeah, I agree...they just waited too long to release the hard drive. At least someone is excited about it.

...and the PSP won\'t be released until next year...again...stupid. I\'m sure it\'ll be worth the wait. I\'m sick of the age-old technology gameboy. You\'d think by now that handhelds would look a lot better.

Yeah, sound like buying the PC version is more of a worthy purchase than PS2 version.  So, i  think ps3 will come with a built in hard-drive.

I have SOCOM2 and not only are they going ot have new maps and maybe weapons, but the game will run smoother also.  I am getting the HDD for those reasons and for the space.

Do you remember the hard drive released for the first PS2 model in Japan when it was launched?I wonder what was it for since I cant recall any game or atleast any use for it back then.
The first model released didnt have a place for the HDD to be inserted internally so it was connected externally.

here is a pic.

well, Final fantasy was released in Japan around the same time as the HDD over there...

I can see the HDD being a waste of money to the people who don\'t play online games.  I love online gaming, more than single player games at this point.  And as far as "Paying more" than the PC version for FF online, thats very false.. Its time for a math lesson kids, you get the HDD and FF online for 99 dollars. Now, for you SLD kids, lets make it easy and round that price up to 100 dollars: that $50 for the Hard Drive and $50 for the game.  Besides, I rather use my nifty PS2 controler than my keyboard and mouse anyday.  Not to mention staring at my 36 TV as compared to my 17" monitor.

I can somewhat agree with you and thats why i havent completely avoided the thought of buying it, BUT pc users pay 50 dollars less than you do. Not to mention they can type already w/o the purchase of a new keyboard. That is unless your usb keyboard works with your ps2.

So say you have all of that. Then IF your keyboard cord is long enough for you to sit on your couch then where are you going to put it? Next to you and then switch over to type to people (not even mentioning how uncomfortable it is to type with it on your lap)???

Like i said, I\'m not saying that i will never get it, but if its not supported enough, then I think ill pass.

BTW, That old school HD PS2 looks Sexy.....yet mennacing :D oh yeah

Err...add another 50 bucks and you can get an XBOX...with built in online play...HD support for all games...errr...:)

Furthermore, you can easily upgrade your XBOX hdd if you know what you\'re doing...:)

And there will be nothing worth playing with this HDD - Sony has delayed and delayed, due to the fact they know it was a bad idea to bring the HD so late into the PS2\'s cycle. Fact is, to much money was invested in it not to bring it to our shores, even if it will be a huge flop for the company.

With that said, I\'ll buy one eventually , as in after the PS2\'s life cycle and I can get one off Ebay.com or something. That way none of my money goes to Sony for such a dumb idea or should I say, good idea with "piss poor" (copyright - MM) execution.

Too late in the cylcle?  ok, well you go ahead and wait another 2 years for the PS3 to come out and I will enjoy my final fantasy, SOCOM II, and other great online games :)
