Ok.Tell me that that heliopter is real.
The first pic shows some great level of detail. But its blurry to conclude.I hope it will be much more powerfull though.
I mean these are only tech demos and they arent the most impressive thing ever.
Where were these tech demos shown?

Half Life 2 looks more impressive than any of these screenies
I am not impressed much.

Good.Does it say anything worth reading regarding the PS3?Or is just these few screens?
The magazine is very expensive in Cyprus and I want to know if it will worth it to buy it for these news
Btw:I ve heard that solid official information might be revealed in May or March.

Its ok I have my X box lined up as “sacrificial lamb” so that i can get a PS3 come launch day.:D
Just need to "fatten" the X box up some more ;).
hey MAKAVELIUK what issue is that from... ?
Number ...... Month...errr whats even on the front cover ?
-
April issue? Anyone thought about it being an April fools joke?
It\'s too early for anyone to show PS3 demos now, it\'s just silly.
-
Good point JP.
yeah, it could be Aprils\' fool.
-
Those look ok i suppose. All except for the soldier one. The tree stump though looks pretty damn good though. The copter is ok and the last. well thats just sad and kinda nasty. I mean i have no idea of how this next gen will look. Its hard for me to picture playing with cg type graphics. So i wonder if the next gen will be such a great step.
Of course i think the ps3 will be able to produce these screens EAZY. If not then ill tell you know that from what i can tell, im a bit dissapointed. All that cell technology and hype down the shitter. Well I pray that these are just people tinkering with a few things or that they are fake. Considering April is around, ill keep my fingers crossed and hope its a joke.
-
Uhmmm...the 2nd batch was just concept Cgi art. It was in a feature on Gamesradar.com I believe. They did the big HYPOTHETICAL on what they thought next gen graphics might look like. So they gathered some basic tech info from devs and they called in help from some Cgi animators and thus they made those fake mock up shots.
The feature sucked btw.
-
Thank you

Totally agree, I will be disappointed if that is the final version.:(

Its an early tech demo, much like those Sony showed when PS2 was first announced.. Remember those? Butt ugly now when we look back. :D
People are saying SONY will show something THIS month.
-
Uhm the tech demos for PS2 looks pretty damn good if you ask me, a lot better than anything that\'s been released so far on the system. But that\'s not so surprising considering they only showed small specific demos which only rendered a pool of water or a face for instance. They never showed a gaming scenario in their tech demos, which was misleading IMO.
-
Yeah, I know you\'re right, but I must honestly say that I miss the days when the PS1 took over from the SNES and Mega Drive... it seemed (at that time) like such a huge jump. Eveything went from 2d to 3d, from cartridge to CD, from digital to analog... it was a huge change. Since then I havn\'t been impressed much.
Till, this day I think that this generation of consoles had much prettier graphics and the environments far by miles larger than the 32 bit (64 bit) era....... but it wasn\'t as WOW as it was made out to be:rolleyes:
I have the feeling the same will happen again, the graphics and scale will improve, the sound can\'t really improve because 5.1 is currently the thing, the controller is still analog and vibrates, it\'s still 3d and can\'t go much further, it\'s still DVD based (probably the new blue lazer technology that can hold more info, but is still DVD)....... I mean think about it, how much more can really be done to really excite us gamers besides graphics and scale?
A few years ago I always told my mates, and i\'m sure you all did aswell, "Can you imagine when games will be like the real thing!!!... Playing a game that looks like a movie!!!".... and now that it is around the corner i\'m thinking to myself, if it is really so wonderful as I was imagining those years ago.
What do you all think?

Yes they did.. Remember the skeleton demo? FFVIII dancing demo? Tekken Demo? All are not-so-great (perhaps Tekken demo only holds up today) by todays standards IMO. :)
Of course the face demo was nice, but IMO it has been surpassed by SH3 and SH4.. The pool of water demo also has an equivalence in Dark Cloud 2 (fish tank).
-
I disagree. heh.
Anyway, on topic again; I\'m not impressed by any of those pictures.
-
Either it\'s an April\'s Fool joke or it\'s concept art based on what some guy (tm) thinks next-gen will bring to the table.
We\'ll have to wait for the real thing either way, and even then, it won\'t be representative of what a real next-gen game would look like (especially a launch game).
-
After watching some of the PS2 early tech-demos now in 2004, I don\'t think they look THAT great anymore, except for a few ones, like the old man\'s head (when the only thing you\'re doing is rendering a head on screen, you can concentrate all your resources on it).
I think that a lot of people have an idealized vision of how great they looked (I\'m talking about the real time ones only).

Oh I agree. They don\'t look all that great anymore compared to newer Xbox and PC games. But I disagree with what fastson said, that they look really bad compared to newer PS2 games. Which I don\'t think they do.

Oh yeah.I miss the shift from 2D to 3D.It was a whole new experience.
Gameplay also felt different.3D controls, physics etc implemented for the first time. And we got superb quality of sound compared to the 16 bit consoles.
Man!I still remember when I poped my first game in my PS1.I was BLOWN AWAY!TOTALLY!!That was Wipeout!!The sound, the music, the graphics, the feel of the game....Damn that was probably my first orgasm :D
I was waiting to see the same difference from 32 bit to 128.But the difference is nothing compared to back then.
I had high expectations when PS2 was announced.Expected to be blown away.
I was to some extend. But it wasnt enough.

There is a huge difference between Xbox and PS2 games? ;)
Go look at the tech demos (anyone have a link? I spent 10 mins on Google and found noZING), then come back.. Take a look at Silent Hill 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, Burnout 3, Ace Combat 4 etc.. Its pretty big. :)
-
I posted some links of the PS2 tech demos a long time ago
One moment
I ll do a search
-
http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=6280&highlight=tech+demos
A damn. The links dont work anymore.
Edit:I have them on my PC though. If only I could upload them somewhere
-
I found the links on IGN.. But either they are broken or you have to be an insider to view the vids.
Uni: Nice find! :)
-
These pictures were also shown time ago as demo-tech captures of the future Xbox2... I don\'t believe it... I think it\'s fake. If they were true... erm... dunno...
-
This is all a load of crap...don\'t post loads of crap...
Actually...these are in fact, renders. I got this info from ps3insider.com
Avalon PC Renders
Posted on Thursday, March 18 @ 16:51:54 EST by Josh
[Article Topic: News]
Some of you may remember a few months ago when we reported that Climax Studios had completed their next-generation engine, called Blimey 2, set to be used on the PS3. Today, we get to see the new engine in action (on a PC) via the Official UK Playstation Magazine. The screens are from a recently revealed title called Avalon which is a futuristic racing game set for release on the PS3.
It is important that our readers understand that these pictures do not represent what the PS3 will be capable of graphically; this is only a demonstration of what the game engine can do when run on a PC. We do feel that it is important to show you these shots because they do represent the first look at a PS3 game even though they don’t represent what the final product will look like.
Here\'s a scanned page from the article:

...and what the hell is Blimey 2???

Mmmm... Despite their efforts i still think some of those screens are just plain bad. Ill wait to gobble up the hype of the REAL tech demos.

Thank you Uni. Took the words out of my mouth. When i first played a playstation it was one of the most amazing things ever. CD formats being massed preduced and knowing that my machine could also play cd\'s and had a kool interface w/o a game even being in the machine. A start up (loading) screen (far different than just the words sega in blue and a computerized voice).
A CG animated into and music to die for. WipeOut came in the koolest box too (still have it btw). The large boxy DVD like cases. The game blew me away. That and RayMan which i had never played on any other console at the time. Back then nobody would dare say that those graphics were bad. You just couldnt.
Those were the days

Pure art
It almost looked like a stylish cover of a techno music CD.
You didnt just play a game. You listened to music with visuals in which you had control in.
-
oops double post
-
Another great game (too bad they screwed the sequels).
You could side step into the backround.Had a free-roaming feel in huge beautifully made backrounds.Sountrack was superb as well (remembers Sofia\'s stage).Imagine.One of the first fighting PS1 games.
And oh my God.The boss\' stage is probably the most impressive thing I ve ever seen on PS1.

I think we are talking about two different demo occasions..
First Sony showed the once you are talking about, the face, the sink with the rubber duck and some other crap.
Later came the skeleton demo I was talking about, which showed “in game” do-able stuff.

BAT i think was good up until 2. 3 killed it for me. I played those games almost religiously. So funny how something that good goes unspoken about so easily. I even bought the BAT anime just because of it. Eiji, Duke, and... damn the blonde sword guy opposite eiji. I used to play w/ them a lot at first. Couldnt really get used to Fo or Gaia.

Also a few othe demos appeared.
One showing different models with clothes to demonstrate the realistic clothing animation
One showing an enviroment on which trees grew
One demosntrating a cathedral if I remember well and birds flew randomly
One displaying a room with different objects. One of the objects was a lantern. Some lighting effects deomsntrated on the glass.
One showing a face with different effects.Something similar to the visual effects featured on PS1 demo1 disk if you popped in a music cd
-
Ok fastson. I don\'t remember ever seeing a skeleton demo
-
They did show a skeleton demo.
Skeletons raised from the ground and there was also a huge dragon skeleton on the plane.A fairy then flew above the skeletons and they broke into pieces

Exactly, the PS2 is a great console... but that 16bit to 32bit jump will be hard to crack again.:)
-
Actually it was cracked....from PSX to DC....it was heaven. :)
-
In South Africa we never got the DC, because all that rules here is PS1 and PS2 and eventually the GC has now arrived (I mean, for God sakes, we don\'t even have the Xbox here?!!), but I can imagine how nice the jump was to Dreamcast because of the year it happened... by the time the PS2 launched all people were used to the graphics.
-
btw, those fake PS3 shots are downright fugly!!!! Urrrghhhh!!!
-
I\'ll probably wait at least 4 months before buying the PS3...I want to avoid all the problematic ones and all of the errors that Sony has a habit on committing during their first shipment.

This always sounds like the smart way of doing things but sometimes its just so damn hard to wait! You are at home playing your dated ps2 while all your friends are blabing 24/7 about how this game or that game rules on the ps3. Id seem so completely left out that i almost feel that its worth my money to get the problematic ones. Not only that but there are actually chances of it lasting. Who knows
