Here\'s another preview from ign. A little more detailed:

MGS3\'s gameplay looks to shift away from it\'s arcady, and for today\'s standards \'simple\', gameplay mechanics, towards a
more deep and slowpaced tactical approach.
Personally I\'m all for that. I\'ve always found MGS2\'s gameplay
to be rather MGS1.5 instead of full sequal gameplay evolution.
Also, I\'m glad that MGS3 won\'t include the RADAR nor the M9
tranquillizer gun.
-
cool link, the second one is a lot better. first sounded like a gimik, but actually sounds kinda cool

Yeap. The absence of these two make the game more challenging.
But at the same time I liked the fact that MGS2 encouraged you not to kill.
-
^ Huh ??? At the IGN MGS boards I always had the impression alot of ppl got teh onslaught urge in MGS2.
Seriously though...alot of stealth games are on the rise since MGS2. Gameplay mechanics in all genre\'s have been increasingly gotten more deep thanx to improved contextual animations, better enemy AI and better level design (thanx to better level loading or streaming).
Alot of reaction to Twin Snakes of ppl is that they feel it\'s MGS2 style gameplay feels dated..... and ...honestly it is...or you should call it \'arcade\' ...
Anyway, Mr. Kojima is hard @ work re-inventing MGS core gameplay. And he realizes that\'s needed as he won\'t have the benefit of PS2 graphics being a novelty anymore.
-
Well thats not Kojima\'s fault
It was wiser to tranquilize the enemies in the game.He tried to disencoursge you to kill.
If some people liked playing with the enemy\'s AI like scaring them, shooting them on the leg and then kill them, wtach them suffer etc is a different matter. The only way Kojima would prevent everyone from killing in the game was to enable only tranquilizing weapons.Which would have been :ghey:
You cant stop people from doing something in the game if they have the tendencies to do it.
It was fun to experiment with the enemy the first times of play but then there was no point to do this anymore.
I wnjoyied scaring them, take their dog tags and tranquilize them.Sometimes shoot them with the m9 on the leg give them a few punches :D and offer them nice dreams
-
:) Any idea on how popular Grey Fox is at those IGN MG boards ? It\'s waaay past HUGE. Kind of like Boba Fett\'s popularity in SW.
These guys always start asking (when Twin Snakes released) if the Grey Fox WITH katana was playable throughout the WHOLE game as unlockable. Besides trigger happy, they are Katana-chop-happy. Dismembering limbs in Woo-tastic fashion and such...
Imo, Grey Fox and the whole Katana blade thing is way over rated .... a friggin\' cliche within a cliche (1.cyborg-2.ninja)......
but hey.. that\'s just quirky me eh.... ;)
-
lol
I had no idea.
haha.I personally loved grey fox as a tragic character.LOL not because he was a cyborg ninja killing machine.I would have loved to control him for his cool moves.
seems most people are thirsty for some blood!:D
Grey fox=the chopping machine.Great for making mincemeat.
-
Don\'t forget -- the Ninja was an afterthought to MGS and was just a private project being worked on by the artist and was seen by Kojima who quickly thought of some way to include him in the game.
-
For those of us who played MGS2 why didn\'t the Ninja(I don\'t wanna reveal the true identity and spoil it for those who STILL haven\'t played the game) slice up that queer Raiden?:ghey:
-
the cyborg ninja in mgs1 and mgs2 are two different characters....
-
He knows that they are, he just was adding a sarcastic MGS-hate comment.
-
Looking Good...
Like the fact that camouflage is borken down into Top(s) and Bottom(s).
---------------------
*Edit*
Looks like its Camouflage and face paint.
*Edit*
---------------------
Also you get a camouflage rating like the light rating in splinter cell.
-
I didnt have any complaints for Raiden. He served well his part into the story.Kojima had his reasons. And as usual people instead of trying to see from the directors point of view they always try to see what they wanted to see from the beginning.
And no I am NOT gay
:p
-
i Like Raiden too. :(
-
MAN ARE YOU GAY?
just kidding :p
I liked him too.Otherwise I would have been serious :D
-
I liked Raiden too. :)
MGS3 looks HOT!
-
I think Rayden look better with his hair cut short and please....no more blonde....i mean blond (cough)...make his hair dark brown like snake or black.
Probably the biggest reason why he look :ghey: is his hair. Too girly i guess.
-
Nah.. it wasn\'t his hair. His body is shaped like a women\'s with those wide hips and thin waiste. Also his damn high pitched voice and his whining.
-
I want it real bad!!!
I also want this game too ;)
-
i thought Kojima wasn\'t working on anymore mgs projects. Thats why MGS:sa
was such a lackluster game.
-
MGS:sa ?
did i miss something here ?

The only MGS game ever to appear on Xbox is Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which was basically MGS2 with an extra disc that contained lots of VR missions, Snake Tales and stuff like that.

Actually, there was no compilation disk. It was on one DVD.

Whatever the name of the game is I remember playing it. It was hyped as the MGS X and suppose to be something new but was not
So Kajima is still working on mgs?
-
Hyped up by XBOX fanboys since rumors appeared that it was going to appear on XBOX
Yep.Kojima...Thats KOJIMA....K-O-J-I-M-A! :p
He is working on it it seems.
I wonder if there will be a MGS4 and if he is going to be the director for it.
MGS2 left unanswered questions

you actually can unlock the wig? How?
-
by collecting enough dogtags
-
If I remember well you must collect over 90% of dogtags in his section in two difficulty modes.I collected more than 90% in hard mode and over 90% in normal.
Its similar to Snakes bandana. It gives unlimited ammo when equiped.
If you the same thingin Snakes section it unlocks a funny bandana.
Check gamefaqs if you want to be sure though.
-
Solid Snake is the best video game character. Ever.
-
SEPHIROTH IS
-
Your mom is:p
I think this game will be awesome but i dont think it should be labled MGS3. Its not really a sequel to the originals. Its just a game in the same world. I guess im being picky but after that crazy ass ending in MGS2 I think we deserved some frickin answers. Not only that but Kojima said he was dropping out. What happened? I know he brings majic to the game and i was very dissapointed but hes still hear and theres no word as to why. Its like he went home and his parents shipped him back to make another game as if he had no choice.
Sad the game was going to fall into amature hands (thinks of Devil May Cry), but i was looking forward to Kojima\'s new ideas come to life. Not only that but we recieve a game thats not even going to answer our questions from 2. By the time 4 comes out everyone will have forgotten what had gone on exactly in that mess of story in SOL.
And i dont think anybody wants to sit through it all over again.
I know i dont
-
NO ITS SEPHIROTH
:p
It seems Hideo Kojima wasnt completely satisfied with what he achieved in MGS2(he never was.Even the first trailer he showed in E3 he didnt expect people to like it).
Its an artist think.Never satosfied with their work.Especially after some negative opinions about the game he wanted to redeem by creating a MGS that would satisfy.
-
Man, Solid snake would kick sephiroths ass.
Twice.
-
WHAT?
HOW DARE YOU?SACRILEGE
YOU INFIDEL
SEPHIROTH IS GOD!!!!
-
How about it. lets have a face to face combat.
sephiroth versus Solid Snake
-
bah.One blow and he will send Solid Snake to oblivion
Why bother? :p
-
Guybrush Threepwood is the best character. ;)

Sephiroth is cool, but Solid Snake is cooler in all aspects.
-
bffff.Right.Just put the in game solid snake from MGS1 next to that sephiroth.
Or better...compare Sephiroth from the movie with the CGI Snake in VR missions
-
If there is such thing as these characters fighting in videogames. I can imagine sephiroth with his sword doing his magic spell like bolt3 and the such while snake with his gun trying to dodge it and flipping around corner hiding behind carts...and he try to aim at sephiroth with his gun....
i will stop here and let someone continue witht he story...
-
Sephiroth summons super nova. The end :D

I like MGS2 the way it is...tranquilizer is nice...frankly, i like it better than Splinter Cell...gameplay wise and story wise...but Raiden is just so FREAKIN GAY.
-
Yeah I like the overall feel and atmosphere of the MGS-series so much better than Splinter Cell even though both SP games are really good as well.
Raiden can burn btw.

There is a fighter like that
Ehgeiz. Its got FF7 characters and everything woo
http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/ehrgeiz/review.html

Yeah, i remember Ergheiz back when I was still a Freshman in High school. I borrowed from a friend, i find the game very entertaining. I remember there is another mode where you wander around places figithing mushrooms and other creatures. Although i didn\'t pass that level. And i was told you can unlock characters like Yuffie and Red XIII father?...
-
I unocked Yuffie. But not REDXIII\'s father. Was he probably confused with the boss before the credits?

i agree mgs2 left way too many unanswered questions..but if you think about it..mgs2 was released around sept 11 01,..& the theme of the patriots was one of gov\'t conspiracy to a point..so if kojima was going to finish the story line,..maybe he didn\'t because it would touch on the u.s. gov\'t being corrupted or something to that degree...and in a post 911 world, that is a definit NO NO! :p...it was just a thought..who knows what kojima was really going to say..one thing is for sure..kojima definitely needs to bring some closure to mgs2.
-
A new MGS3 video which shows off the workings of the camo index during gameplay. While this video got many of the ppl at the IGN MGS boards even more hyped, I was slightly underwhelmed....Maybe I have to see it a coupla times more....
MGS3 camouflage movie (http://jpn01.konami.co.jp/movie/mgs3/mgs3_camouflage_e.zip )
renewed MGS3 website (http://www.konamijpn.com/products/mgs3/english/camouflage.html )
Anyway, in the video you can see how different ways of walking and taking stances coupled with the different camo pattern affect \'Snake\'s\' camo index in real time. At 100 % index he was indeed \'undetectable\' from the TOPDOWN camera view. But imho he still kinda stood out from the other angles, which made it a bit silly to see how the gaurds didn\'t detect \'Snake\'. I\'m sorry, but imo SplinterCell\'s visual representation of becoming/being \'invisible\' looks more believable and refined. Konami also might want to increase the image contrast of the engine, since that might help the effect of the camo pattern\'s credibility. ...but we all know about PS2\'s slightly washed out image output eh..
As for the moves. The STALK walking is imo the most interesting addition. Yet it is a slightly modified version of MGS2\'s \'walking slow\'. I expected more from this :( as well.
Everything else, like the realtime lighting, the 3D forest environment and such look GREAT though.
-
The camera looks duff if that\'s the proper game cam, I thought it was going to be a totally new system?
-
^If you look carefully you can see that trees which obstruct view on \'Snake\', will become transparant. That\'ll probably be the new big \'innovation\' ... :(

I am fairly confident that I was already playing MGS2 (PAL) at Easter in 2001...

maybe you were,..but i could have sworn it was delayed in the u.s. because of 911 and the fact that the game dealt with terrorism..
-
Yeah I think it was delayed coz of that too. They had to remove some cut scenes from the game that had the WTC in them. I don\'t think it came out until November/December 2001 in Europe at least
-
November 13, 2001 in America. I think Europe got it around Easter 2002.
