I know I\'m not the only one who picked this up. It\'s pretty good so far and I like the way the game has been unfolding so far. Great graphics and pretty good AI. What do you guys think?
Oh, and 5 disks for the installation? Come on, go to dvd-rom already.
-
I did not pick it up, but I am suprised they did not have an edition out there with a dvd install.
-
there is
-
Yes, the UK/Euro edition has the DVD... I have it and it is simply amazing. Haven\'t had this much fun with a PC game in a while.
-
I feel stupid.
Far Cry?
Huh?
I am so not up to PC games.
-
It looks absolutely spectacular but like so many FPS games I think the story in SP is lacking. Still it\'s a fun game though.
-
lacking? I find it to be the driving force of the game. Everything is so vague and mysterious -- very similar to Half-Life in my opinion.

What? I thought the Batman brothers would keep each other informed on current games. :p

I\'m not accountable for my bizzarro world counterpart.
-
Amazing game.. The first two parts are pretty boring, but from then on it rocks! :)
-
I just got Halo and UT2004 so I\'m pretty good on the FPS front for now. This game does look really interesting though.
-
you need 9800 pro to run game it\'s all if it\'s glory (eye candy)
-
Looks delicious. Put it on a slightly older system. Boy that was a bad idea. Im upgrading my systems so i can run anything. FarCry will be one of the first things that goes on most likely.

Irony is not very popular over here uh?

Even with a 9800 Pro it won\'t run like it will with a FX 5950. I have a 9700 Pro and I can not max everything without the fps being reduced to 15-20. The 9800 Pro only runs a few fps faster than the 9700. The 9800 XT is a different story.
With the latest patch - Crytek optimized it even more for Nvidia cards.
-
Yeah, they did as they fixed up the shaders that were causing lag on GF cards. Doesn\'t matter much as videocard is but only one ingredient for this game to run well. If you want max performance or even think about having max everthing, you need a gig of ram. It\'s just that simple. The textures are just so high res for this game that it caches a TON before every level. There\'s no free-flowing no loading screens here even though the game is basically seemless in its execution with where you are and where you leave off with cut scenes.
The game for me so far has improved TREMENDOUSLY. As you play, the atmosphere is just absolutely amazing and really starts to kick your ass after awhile. If doom 3 is even two or three times as atmospheric as this game is with its lighting and sense of fear it\'s supposed to perpetuate, it will be worth the full price as this game in tight cooridors and in crawl spaces with limited ammo (even though it never gets too limited) and its weapons can get very suspenseful. It\'s a treat and, dare i say it, the first really good single player FPS since Half-Life was released 6 years ago.

Just got this game.. lets see how well it runs on a overclocked ti4400 card lol. Also got Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, which runs perfectly fine in full everything. :)
Well, It runs pretty good in High, 1024x768 32bit etc. But Very High is another story. Will be good when i update. :)
-
I play it on my 9800pro 256, amd athlon xp 2800+ 1gb ram with every option to the full, 1024. Excellent framerate.

Damn souly, how does it play on a GF4. I\'m still using a ti4600 overclocked, myself. I am still waiting on the r420 for my next gpu upgrade

I\'m on a Nforce2 mobo, 1 gig pc3200 ram in dual channel (6-2-2-3), XP 2800+ cpu too. I\'m just gonna get a redeon9800 card when the new series comes out. I\'m not paying 1G+ for a vid card.

One reason why sometimes i just love console gaming over pc gaming. And people complain about a 300 dollar system that lasts 3 times as long as many computer components used for advanced gaming. I can manage not being on top for the money.
Not saying that console gaming is better, but 1G for a damn videocard is just stupid.
-
with any new technology its expensive.. i payed 700+ for playstation 1 when it first came out here. But with consoles the games stay limited to their hardware. Why else do u think newer versions come out. So in a way, you\'re still updating. :)
-
Consoles do simplify things, but there are many benefits to using a PC.
Perhaps not enough to justify the price difference, at times.. but the PC is definitely worth the dough. Advanced video cards today pump out better visuals at much higher resolutions than today\'s consoles, with better framerates.
Some of the cards in question are only moderately more expensive than the PS2 or Xbox.

I picked up the box to check out the minimum specs and I fall somewhere between that and the recommended. I\'m sure it will drag hiney on my machine. Also there\'s like a small essay on what ATI drivers to use listed on the box.
-
The latest 4.3 cat drivers work pretty good on my 9800pro card. I have not had any problems. I did have a general problem with a save file in the game though on the swamp level where the game would refuse to load the next area after completing the objectives -- just would close to desktop, but playing from a previous checkpoint seemed to fix that error as right now, I\'m at the end of the game. The Far Cry forums are just jam packed with issues though, especially with ati cards so take that for what it\'s worth. It\'s like the game just didn\'t pass through any bug checks or testing. Unfortunate.
Regardless, up to this point, it\'s been great fun. The story takes a big turn at the end that I\'m sure you\'ll all appreciate. So far, my respect for this game has risen even more then it was at previously. Best single player FPS since Half-Life, easily.

Well, I’ve gotten pretty far into it. Not a bad fps at all. Great Graphics, (water effects look unreal) great sound (DD5.1) and quite challenging. I thought there would be more gore, but what can u do.
Only thing i don\'t like is the animals they\'ve thrown in there. I personally hate FPS games against beasts, animals etc. They just make it less, eerrr personal.
I\'m running it in high now without problems. Very high doesn\'t work to well though, very well coded game. As for ATI issues I won\'t know till I get a radeon card. What ever issues it has, will hopefully be fixed by then. :)
