Title: Just a neon?
Post by: luckee on April 06, 2004, 12:41:02 AM
not anymore....

524whp stock block

I hope my SRT can do that one day :D
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cheesefrog.com%2Ffrog%2Fstevedyno_01.jpg&hash=d07d4a9a40194fe08f69dd96f596f7da94a97805)

In all seriousness, even this has me surprised as I couldnt even run 247whp on my stock 1st gen block for more than a month before meltdown.

that\'s crazy, did he have to upgrade the turbos and inject nos or nv20 to get those numbers?  Plus a pretty smooth curve considering it\'s a 4-cyl.  Can u link to the thread of the car owner?

There\'s a guy in the Maxima community who did the same thing.. got over 500tq on the stock block AND stock tranny.. still ran low 12\'s.

ps- we still got FWD cars :(

I would expect some serious modifications have occured to reach that figure.

So this car pretty much only drives in a straight line, right?  I can\'t imagine how you can put that much power into a FWD car, and expect it to corner in a non offensive way.  If I\'m wrong, that\'s cool, but for now I can\'t imagine it.

A friend of mine had a souped up Neon SRT4. Two words.... Torque Steer.

He crashed it into a gaurd rail last Fall. Had nothing to do with racing. \'Twas black ice to blame.

Yeah "Black Ice."     I love that.  "I didn\'t crash because of my poorly installed mods, or because I\'m a lousy driver.  It was Black Ice!"  :p

Hehe....well...that\'s what HE said. Except for the "lousy driving and poorly installed parts" part. :)

The guy is building a street/strip car. Why would he be interested in modding to spec for a road course?

On that note, there is a great roadracer/ enduro guy named Dale Seeley that does run a heavily moddified SRT on nothing but road course\'s and has no problems with winning consistently.

Another guy..Erich Heuschele took 1st in the mid-priced sedan class at one lap of america with a SRT. He also took 8th overall in a large field of "true" sports cars like diablos..vipers... RGT\'s...TT 996\'s..ZO6\'s.....etc..etc.

Torque steer occurs on almost ALL FWD cars without equal length drive shafts. And it can/will happen even on those with them, but it really isnt a problem.

your friend sounds like a dumb ass. torque steer isnt that bad of a problem for a driver.

Thats really nice for a Max. This was on one of the VQ blocks? I think its VQ anyway.

As for his car, this is what I got from him.

GT3040R
Tial 38mm
Tial BOV
Mopar stage 1 ECU
PowerPaq piggy back fuel computer
Griphin intercooler

we start tuning it.. it goes dead lean at 4500rpms.. no fuel..

I bring it back to the shop, and drop in the usual suspects..

Aeromotive A1000 pump
#8 feed
#4 return (from previous tuner)
Precision 880cc Injectors
HONDA Injector resistor

we went back to the dyno to see what the extra fuel would do...

Keep in mind the Engine is COMPLETELY stock. the only thing changed has been the spark plugs and oil.

We will be taking it to the track tomorrow we will see what it does with the power.

Hey, I have no doubt that the SRT4 can be set up to run very effectively on a road course.  In fact, if I recall correctly, they handle pretty well in stock form (compared to most mass production cars).  No need to convince me.

My question is with regards to this particular 524HP Neon.  If you want to go fast in straight line, why use a FWD car?  It seems it would be much easier to start with a different platform.

Of course, I guess that\'s part of the attraction.  Other cars have already been taken to the limits of their potential by other engineers.  Doing it to a Neon is like "going where no man has gone before."  Is that the situation here?

For me personally, I\'d prefer to start with a Supra or a 300ZX if I wanted to go fast in a straight line.  :)

It was the way I understood what you posted. my bad. Plus it doesnt hurt to show proof to the other non-believers who can only say its a shitty car or its just a neon(which it shares nothing but a shell) or the famous...its a gay car. Non of that matters when all one see\'s is the tail lights of said gay car. :)

Thats exactly why i got into the 4bangers anyway. I used to be a V8 guy..still am. It\'s just fun as shit to see the looks on the face of the guy with the WS6 TA as you pass him...quickly. :D

I like many many cars. Thats why I dont know what I want to do now. Ive done honDUH..ive done like 6 neons...ive done nissan...ive done DSM. I would like to do a last gen supra, but i dont want to be in the joke. What do 400,500, and 600hp supras have in common? They all run 12\'s :)

So how are things in your corner of the world anyway? I always did enjoy car discussions with you.
Title: Just a neon?

So that\'s a T3 turbo?  What stage/size is the stock one?

The max was a 95, the first year the VQ was used (3.0L 190hp version).  The guy who did it actualy went through 3 or 4 engines and finally got the tuning right to reach a stable 500 mark.  Here\'s a video (http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=114) of him running a boosted RX-7.

The SRT-4 isn\'t just another gay neon, but it\'s not a cruiser car either.  The front just doesn\'t look aggressive at all, but it can stomp any car in its price range and hang with those twice that.  You gotta give credit for it\'s performance, SCC ripped apart the engine and concluded it was the real deal, no shortcuts taken.  When the headlights stop saying "Hi" to me and go the route of the WRX I\'ll give it a look.

PS- I think the joke is (or at least another version of it) is: "What do a 400hp Mustang and a 1000hp Supra both have in common?  The 12 second timeslip."
Title: Just a neon?
Post by: luckee on April 06, 2004, 06:12:46 PM
Not aggressive looking? Non WRX route?
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imagestation.com%2Fpicture%2Fsraid107%2Fpfe2848e071ba25960a6961ab0b3aba42%2Ff954ba53.jpg&hash=d7ec2c705236992e15c0c9c8d5a198b44c455df2)

Look at the lights...WRX-ish...minus the STi housing or projectors. Unless you mean the new WRX\'s.

BTW..I always did hate that bug eyed look as well.

You\'re calling him a dumbass based on his accident without asking further information? He wasn\'t racing, as I said. He was going at the safe speed in the rain but the black ice just could not have been seen....especially at night. Obviously, your mad ricer skillz at the quarter mile must be sooooo amazing that Vin Diesel would have a boner for ya! We don\'t live our lives a quarter of a mile at a time, Vinny.

Listen, Captain Ricer, he\'s an avid autocrosser and a very good track racer. The car, whether it had AWD or RWD, would have still slipped on black ice regardless. 5 other cars slipped in the same area and the state police had to close that ramp.

This is MY thread now. If you noticed my response had two short but seperate sentences. I mentioned Torque Steer. The next paragraph (yes, one sentence but still)....I mentioned he crashed.

Now, I understand that was misleading but I did say it had nothing to do racing (ie full WOT). So why\'d you call him a dumb ass?

Luckee I actually like the bottom half of the front, but I don\'t think the headlights will ever grow on me.  Once the SRT\'s get dropped they look pretty aggressive.

Then I\'m a dumb ass THREE TIMES! :D This kid backed his car out and hit my car. The one other guy did a 180 and hit me. And this one other guy, while eating a donut, hit me while I was stopped at a light.

Nobody is perfect. And just so you know, my car can hit Mach 4. On 87 octane. With 4 fat chicks. Beat that.

Hostile aren\'t we luckee?  I don\'t have to answer to you - I have my opinion and if you don\'t like it ignore me.  You would rather argue symantics (ie. Gman\'s visiting a forum 5 years ago) than discuss why it isn\'t rice.

Ok...now where did you get hostility in what I asked you? And as usual why cant you answer a question directed at you?

If you dont want to get into what is rice and what isnt, then why say anything in the first place?

And what did that convo from another post that has nothing to do with this one have to do with why you think its rice?

luckee - you have been confrontational in most of your posts since you have been back.  It is noticable.

Anyway, I am not going to argue symantics with you.  In the other thread regarding when Gman visited a forum - is exactly what you are trying to do here.  People\'s perception on what looks good and what doesn\'t are different and analyzing what I think looks "rice" isn\'t going to change my opinion.

Like I said - if you can\'t discuss an issue with me - do everyone a favor and ignore me.  Less topics will get closed and save everyone some time in sifting through this bs.

So either keep your mouth shut if you dont want to explain yourself or just define what you think rice is, you could be right or wrong. There is a definition ya know. Who said anything about changing your opinion..you\'re either right or wrong. Opinion hasnt much to do with it at all.

Based on your theory...I dont like the pontiac aztec...so that qualifies as rice?

See what I mean yet?

Care to actually answer what was asked instead of a bunch of words no one asked about?

And I have only been confrontational with you, vivi, and someone else. You act as if it is new or something. Was I not like this before if not worse?

You are worse... you used to at least be able to discuss something without insulting anyone.  Your hard ass act is pretty amusing though.

Ok back to the car topic...

Anyone use Meguiars NXT Tech Wax instead of Zaino?  People on a few forums are saying it is as good if not better than Zaino\'s.

You don\'t send flowers like you used to. You\'ve changed. Things will never be like they were. :(
