Title: this is what happens when you take your car off the road at 155 mph
Post by: clips on April 12, 2004, 01:50:53 PM: this apparently happended in germany..where there is practically no speed limit..this car went off the road at 155 mph! :eek:

Correct, and it looks like a base model at that with some after market wheels added. No chance in hell that car could reach anywhere near 155mph. It would struggle to do 110, but they are built like crap so any crash is going to leave a mark that a bit of polish won\'t remove.

Even this model with its 2.0 turbo engine and 227hp 4wd couldn\'t reach 155mph. It could do just over 140mph, 0-60 in 5.7 secs!

Maybe modified you could reach 155 or more but that crashed car is certainly not one of these. If you look closely at the wrecked one it doesn\'t even have electric windows.

agreed..on another note do you think something like this could work out in the states? i don\'t know..people already drive like maniacs over here..i think it could work but only on certain highways..y\'know the kind where there\'s alot of open road..some stretches of I-95 & rte 301 in maryland are feasible...not all highways are made to be haulin\' ass like that..ah but it would be nice to take the sc 400 to at least the 140 mark..the dash says 160 but i\'d think i\'d be sh**tin\' bricks if i was goin that fast!

155 kmph is approx 40 meters per sec. A car that weights about 900 kg and hits a tree withthe speed of 40 meters per sec will transform approx 0.7Mj of kinetic energy to heat. That amount of energy could turn 1.8 kg of water from 1C to 99C. But how cares

It was probably going so damn fast that it didn\'t have a chance to explode or something. Maybe the 9,000mph winds cooled it off or something. That really sucks for that guy...

That\'s not nearly as bad as the accident I saw driving through Palm Springs. A RV had ran right into a speeding car and the car took out the entire bottome half of the RV. The car was about 30 feet from the left of it and was completely smashed into nothingness. In fact, you couldn\'t even tell if it was a car at all. Just 4 inches high of compacted metal. The whole road was covered in blood and I still get nausea from thinking about it. You couldn\'t tell the front from the back of the vehicle...:(

or could it be a case of two cars cut and weldded together to make one car.(happens over here from time to time)
