Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi has ruled out any withdrawal of troops. "They have cut short a life. They have not damaged our values and our commitment to peace,"
-
I don\'t know what they think they are going to get by taking hostages... ever since 1979 it has been there typical mode of operation.
The security gaurds have to be there... the journalists on the other hand should have been on the first flight out once this hostage crap started.
-
Agreed. However, the journalists have the right to be there and document what happens but I think their safety is more important than a cover story. Just my opinion though.
-
Hah, good luck explaining that to a journalist.
-

Perhaps, but like Titan said, they must document what is happening. Its up to them if they want to risk their lives.
In other news, a Chinese man has been released.

Also a Swedish journalist was kidnapped but later released.

An American soldier by the name of Keith "Matt" Maupin has been taken hostage.

Hopefully he will make it, they are willing to release him in exchange of some of their men.
Al-Sadr has told "his" men not to hurt hostages.
Any news on Thomas Hammill? :(
-
what do these cats have to gain by kidnapping people?..maybe to shake the will of the coalition & it\'s allies? al-sadr already told his peeps not to attack the spanish soldiers...that\'s bulls**t..i didn\'t agree with the war but you can\'t let these terroists punk you out like that...yea i know everybody in spain was against the war..but if you ALREADY have troops over there & get shook cause somebody plants a bomb and then gives you more ultimatums..and then you pull out because of it..shows you have no backbone at all..
-
Thomas Hamill is alright, he escaped from his captors! :D

"He has spoken to his family. He is now ready to get back to work,"
Go back to work?
I would probably want to see my family first.
-
Yeah the "go back to work" comment was a bit shocking, I really doubt he wants to go back work. Also I don\'t know how valid the story regarding his escape is. They might of let him go.
-
Atleast he\'s safe. Thats the important thing.
-
you never know maybe this cat ppulled some \'ol commando type s**t & busted outa there..:p anyway it\'s good that he made it outa there alive i\'m sure when he gets back he\'ll be glamorized like that lynch chick...pretty amazing since he was being held in tikrit...one of saddams cities that heavily favored him
-
The same was said about "the lynch chick" untill the truth came out.
I don\'t know more than you, but I\'m guessing he was let go as well.
The started to use him as some sort of ace card, so i really doubt they would be so comfortable with leaving him weakly guarded to escape.
Who knows though.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040831/wl_mideast_afp/nepal_iraq_hostages_040831112434
If its true I hope they were dead before the cutting began. :(
-
This is getting out of hand. Screw the rules of engagement and shoot these terrorists.
