Title: Possible Draft?
Post by: Deadpool on April 21, 2004, 03:46:11 AM
I heard a rumor that says that if Bush is elected president again he is gonna start up the draft again. Is it true? Can it be done? If so sucks for me.

It isn\'t Bush who would impose it, it would be Congress.  Personally, I think it would be a great idea to make young people serve their country for 2 years - Europeans do it and don\'t complain.  Americas youth needs to stop thinking about themselves - they are pampered way too much.

For men and women equal?

Here, its only for men. But since all things must be equal (wages, work hours, free time with your kid etc.) according to the feminists, I only think its fair to let the women get drafted as well.

Im glad I did not get called in.

I agree - but I think it shouldn\'t be limited to a military draft - let some choose to do some form of civil service instead.

Giga: Yes.

Btw, I read or heard somewhere that men and women have been in combat, but that the men preformed worse when there were women on the battlefield. Something to do with them always trying to protect the women.

Has anyone heard this before? Any truth to it?

Never heard that - I don\'t know.

I don\'t think I would worry too much about a draft.

Implementing a draft would be political suicide for the GOP.  This is all just talk.

Aren\'t kids who are going to college waived from being drafted?

I don\'t care for this country enough to do any kind of civil service for it.
If such a thing happened, I\'d move to Canada. Until then, I\'ll just take advantage of the few things America has and not serve the country in any other way, than paying my damn taxes.

ROT-CEEEEE!!!!

Reserve Officer Training Corp(?)

I doubt any type of draft will be initiated(in the near future); but if it did and I got the call(which I don\'t think I\'m eligible for anyway) I probably would go.

As for mandatory military service. I am not against it but I think one of the strengths of our armed forces is that they are volunteers. I would rather have 1,000 troops who want to be there than 5,000 who don\'t.

That is a very good point Black Sam... I really don\'t think there will be a draft short of WWIII breaking out, but you are right I would rather be in the company of 1000 volunteers than 5000 who have been visited by the press gang.

I think if every young person was required to do a service for 2 years, this country would be a lot slimmer and more disciplined. But I\'m going into the military so I wouldn\'t care if kids were pulled in. I\'d just laugh at them when they start to cry :)

meh..why don\'t they just send some of those murderers & criminals in jail into the armed services? Hell..they can kill, rape mutilate all they want..then again those convicts might just turn their weapons on the u.s. army, for bein locked up in the first place :p

My mother always says that forcing criminals into military service is the best way to get the best bang for your buck.  If we as citizens have to pay for their incarceration through taxes then, at the very least, they should be doing something productive that benefits the nation.  Making them serve in the military is the best solution for that, but the only problem I have with this is that it would cost far more to house a soldier on the battlefield with the cost of the logistic lines and what not and the price of gas, weapons, ammo, and heavy machinery then it would to just keep them locked up in a cell.

Regardless of these facts, however, would you trust the sovereignty of your own nation and the liberties guaranteed to it, to a gang of convicted criminals and delinquents?  I would think not.

I don\'t know... giving some hardened criminals some weapons and dropping them off in the middle of say Fallujah... how could that be bad?
Title: Possible Draft?
Post by: Ryu on April 22, 2004, 10:52:50 AM
They\'d be well trained criminals of course!  Not some BS ROTC stuff, they\'d be trained by Army Rangers or just stuff em in the marine corps, make them live through the hell that is for whatever the training period is, then outfit them with full gear and drop them into hotzones and see how well the training pays off.  Inhumane?  Maybe.  But no more then people running into coffee shops and blowing themselves up and 25 civilians with them.

Instead of Escape from New York it would be Escape from Fallujah - Snake Pliskon would kick some terrorist ass and save the President!

it would make a great movie.  I can just hear that one guy for the trailer...

"John MaCray murdered an innocent man in order to steal his car and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.  Now, in his 7th year, John is being given a second chance most men never recieve -- the chance to fight for his freedom.

All he has to do is survive basic training with fifty other life imprisoned inmates from the toughest marine commanders in the military in some of the toughest conditions known to man.  Afterwards, it will be his job to fight for two years for his country defending it from all evils, foreign and domestic.

He fights for his freedom by protecting our nation.  Hugh Jackman is -- The P.O.W.  Coming to a theatre near you this memorial day."

 You know people would pay to see it.  You should write the script!

Interesting, but we, as Americans, need to remake everything worth remaking.  Plus, we need to get out of that tired Vietnam movie setting.  :p

Eastern Condors is much more entertaining...

Martial Arts > Guns

...although EC also has lots of gun battles, but they\'re mostly ridiculous.
