Update from a previous topic on this board. Eighteen year old Marcus Dixon was convicted of child molestation and sentenced to 10 years for having sex with a girl who was 15 at the time.
His conviction for child molestation was overturned, but not his statutory rape conviction. So instead of 10 years - he now has a year sentence.

Good to hear, I remember a petition about this a while back.
This sentance is pretty fair I think, 1 year, its too bad that charges were pressed against him at all though :(

Oh yeah that worthless online petition. That must have had a factor in the Georgia Supreme Court ruling ;)

Probley not directly, but it was a definantly a form of social pressure which was one of the reasons that this was persued so swiftly.

i heard about this story..i don\'t know the full details tho..i thought i heard something to the extent of he didn\'t know old she really was or that she told him she was another age...oh well some young girls now a days can look like they\'re 20-25 yrs old..

I think they were bf/GF and she was almost 16,he had sex with her a few days before her birthday and the girls dad found out and took him to court and he got charged with child molestation because she was 15 not 16.

from what i understand i think he lives with a white family..i read somewhere that he was a good student in school & such...but i also heard that the girls father didn\'t approve of him because he was black...i don\'t think that\'s the full reason, but i believe it had something to do with it. being a father myself i have a daughter and i damn sure know that if my daughter was havin\' sex at 15 i would definitely get with that ass royaly..
i would also be heated at the boyfriend (as no father wants anybody touching their daughter\'s at all)..i read in the article that she was scared to tell him to stop for fear he might hit her...i believe she only said that to take some heat off her for when her father found out about them...

It was a dumb case and I\'m glad it got thrown out. This wouldn\'t of happened if her dad wasn\'t a racist. It was his pressure that probably got her to say all that stuff and got him thrown in jail.

Although to be fair, I think you have to take the girls words more seriously then peoples suspicions about her fathers role in this.

^^^c\'mon you don\'t believe that do you? it was consensual. he didn\'t force her to have sex, they both agreed to it. she\'s just saying that to make herself look like the helpless victim. he didn\'t put a gun to her head. and at 15 yeah she\'s still young, but if she\'s grown enough to plan this scenario then she\'s old enough to take equal amount of responsibility in the matter..

I think statutory rape is bullcrap as it stands, but I\'m glad to see some justice still being upheld in a "common sense" matter since the law is in fact the law.
