Tom\'s Harware (http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040504/index.html)
Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2044)
In a nutshell they are just about equal, nVidia\'s 6800 does better in some tests by a tad, and vice versa. For pure image quality with AA and AF turned on the X800 seems to have a slight edge.
Big difference is the X800 XT will be $100 less than a top of the line 6800u.

aye, no real winner either way
my only concern is that the ati cards are just r300\'s on crack, where as the nvidia cards are entirely new designs
-
I know this is going to sound ignorant but…
What does that mean in REAL terms ?
How will it play the Latest games ?
Like
Half life2 etc
-
I think this means the PC industry has finally caught up to the Xbox
-
I\'m with MM on this one, while it seems attractive, it\'s just recycled design. No support for some of the newer features such as SM 3.0 really hurts it in my opinion.
-
ooseven, what this means is that people pay 400$+ for thier respective video cards and argue that one can do 205fps and the other can only do 203fps
-

Were still waiting for CRYTEC to show us the visual difference between PS 2.0 and 3.0
ati cards are just r300\'s on crack
Agreed!!! yet still to this day it competes extremely well with NVIDIA\'s new nv40. Turn the resolution up to 1600x1200 with AA/AF and the NVIDIA card Begs for mercy, while the r300 on crack dominates. Other than playing at high resolutions with max settings, both cards (midrange models) are respectively equal, depending on whom you ask.
-
Pay 100 less, get pretty much the same card, if not better.
i know what i\'d choose..
-
Same here
-
Plus I hear the ATi will use almost half as much power, meaning less heat and less noise.
Edit- sorry, half as much is wrong, it\'s more like 20w less, which is still a lot.
-
The ATI has a few advantages for sure, namely the less power consumption and price tag. I most likely, will buy which ever one comes out first, simply because I would like to get my PC up and running A.S.A.P , due to the fact it is breaking me completely (looks at bank account with around $10 dollars in it after bills,etc...I know I shouldn\'t of bought a bunch of parts at once).
-
nvidia crushes ati in every pre dx9 title, important for me
also, doom 3 > half life 2
-
mm people buy the latest and greatest so that they can play the new and the best. My ti4600 runs 90% of the pre DX9 titles like butter, so honeslty who cares how well both cards run dx8> cause you ain\'t going to notice anything above 60fps, and U and I both know that both the X800 and 6800 will run dx8> faster than 60fps, so I see it as a moot point.
also, doom 3 > half life 2
bahh... ID is an amazing software engine developer, too bad I can\'t say the same about there Games. Valve posses much better talent when it come to gameplay mechanics/creativity
So, HALF 2 > DOOM 3
One more thing Carmack has caped the DOOM 3 engine at 60fps, therefore both cards will most likly run DOOM 3 the same. As for HL2 GABE Newel has even stated that the X800XT runs HL2 40% better than the 6800U. Sounds Shabby doesn\'t it, personally I will wait for the release of the game before I take that statment as HOLY GOSPEL, but I just thought I would throw that out.
-
i have a ti4600, cant bullshit me on what it runs at 1600x1200 and what it doesnt
perhaps your eyes cant tell the difference between 60 and 120fps, but i most certainly can.
-
1600x1200 and what it doesnt
I never said MAX resolution( I was referring to standard 1280x1024). However since you have brought that point up mm, it\'s interesting to see you pick the NVIDIA card when Clearly the ATI put\'s the 6800 to shame when resolutions are turned up. Since you love High resolutions I guess you will be getting the X800, great pick mm.

Than I pitty you, considering you will never be able to play next gen titles at 120fps(1600x1200), instead you will have to wait 2 years before that becomes possible.
-
why the hell woud u wanna anyway, unless your on a MASSIVE monitor. I\'d rather just run it at 1024x768 with AA.
-
Souly I play all my games at 1280x1024 with 4-6xaa/8xAF at 100HZ
Some people swear by 1600x1200, and that\'s fine. The big debate has always been 1280(with AA/AF) vs 1600. Fact of the matter is that it boils down to personal preference. So for anyone out that that must play there games at 1600x1200 and want s the best perforamce stay away from the 6800 as the X800 Owns at high res.

¸
i just dont understand why people keep playing the same game with better graphic since last 15 years..
FPS are outdated, boring, repetive.. just like RTS.
-
better... i\'ll quote MM from another thread.
http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31448
too cool?
how about "too cultured"
i saw the screenshots, therefore i played the game.
-
^ then you might as well not play any racer, fighter, rts, fps etc etc because they have ALL been done before.
-
check the reviews again, 6800u beats r400 in just about everything when AF isnt cranked (thanks to new drivers on 6800, when r400 is using 3 year old tweaked catalysts)
regardless, i already stated that they are both good cards, and the differences are negligible
its about features this time, not gonna split hairs over 10fps
-
well Nvidia does have better open gl support

I\'m curious how Ati\'s FireGL version of the X800 xt will work out.
Right now I have Nvidia\'s QuadroFX1000 (NV30 on the 45.23 drivers) workstation card and it serves me quite well at C4D and Maya. But it kinda sux at games with only a fillrate of 9,6 Gb. So, if I wanna upgrade it looks tempting to get a one of those new \'regular\' cards. The only problem with the Nvidia 6800 is the powersupply. I got a real good Antec truepower 380 W. I\'m not really eager to replace that psu, which is good in itself, just for that new videocard. So that\'s already one of the reasons why the Ati X800xt PE has my preference for now. Ati confirmed that a 300W psu will already suffice.
-
380w PS is fine, even for the ultra
