Wow graphics very much improved since Tekken4.As for the gameplay you cant judge yet Politiepet.
If I remember well I read somewhere that Namco wanted to change the mechanism and make it more like a fighting game that can compete with Virtua Fighter.

Well with Tekken4 they tried to differ the game\'s mechanism from the previous Tekken\'s.Didnt do much though.To me when I first playied it in the Arcades it seemed different.I had to change my tactics and techniques a bit.Ofcourse after owning the game and realising the stupid AI which was predictable and also certain moves were rarely blocked by it I got easily bored.I enjoy playing TTT in Ultra hard 100 times more than playing T4 in ultra hard despite the fact that I lose in TTT more often.
Also the stages needed some more creativity on them in T4.Some of them were boring as hell and didnt fit at all with the Tekken world.It would have been better too if the walls gave you the ability to perfofm extra moves just like Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 4.

This reminds me off the good ol days of tekken. I forgot how much i used to love it. And Uni brings up some interesting points too.
A new fighting vipers or fighters megamix should be in the works. IDK. Actually Eirgeiz (or however the hell it was spelled) had some interesting ideas but wasnt carried out too well.
I cant wait to see more of this one.
* And is that Bryan in the last pic? I thought he got a new body?

Hell yea Yoshi is more badass than ever. Zaibatsu says he\'s much more muscular in this tekken.

According to Zaibatsu returning characters so far are :Jin Kazama, Lee Chaolan, Ling Xiaoyu, Bryan Fury, Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, Yoshimitsu, Steve Fox, Craig Marduk, Christie Monteiro, Hwoarang, Kazuya Mishima, King, Marshall Law, Kuma, Julia Chang and Lei Wulong.

Hei is supposedly dead but who knows if he\'ll come back as a cyborg as the last master or through a hidden/timed release character.

Why is he dead? Wasnt he still alive in T4? Or was that just Panda? And youre right. If you havent experienced a fight with a good kuma player then you just dont know.
And what the hell? Where is Forest? Didnt he go missing, and thats why Marshall got into the tournament???

:laughing: never understood the buttons in Tekken Zaibatsu and other sites btw.Is that the stance where he ducks on his four?Because I ve notice that you can easily jump over him and behind him when he does that if I am not mistaken and thats not a good thing for Kuma. :)

Remember that Heihachi gained Ogre\'s blood and that he needed the devil gene to complete his experiment?He probably used Ogre\'s blood already so he probably became a more powerful being and got away after the explosion.

I think he needed money actually to save his restaurant thats why he entered the tournament.Forest is missing?Cant remember anything about him since T3 where Paul took him with him to the Tournament

It looks exactly like Tekken 4, which looked like Tekken Tag Tourament, which was a high-res version of Tekken 3..

Ahm.....which TTT are you comparing with Tekken4 and T3 again??
And on another note TTT on PS2 still has some of the most detailed backrounds.The only problem you couldnt free roam the stages.

I also see grass.LOTS of grass.More than in TTT.In a free roaming stage.And more detailed characters andstages and better lighting effects than T4

I agree TT was probably the greatest.They kind of killed Tekken4 trying to make it different.But I think Tekken with walls cant be tekken.But then again if they didnt do it in Tekken4 people would have still been disappointed becuase they didnt make it free roam just like every other modern fighting game.
We are used to playing Tekken with 2D controls from T1 till TTT.We are talking about 4 Tekkens here that used the same mechanism.We loved these Tekkens.Changing that (like in T4) doesnt feel right.
I believe if Tekken5 has bigger stages (I mean less walls) and retain the sweetness of the Tekkens before Tekken4 this would be a hit.
The absence of walls in tekkens ment that the players would base their tactics to give damage on
1)moves only and
2)also learn to perform self made compos (compos followed after un uppercut or a hit that stunned the opponent).
3)No cheap tactics to cause damage
Also the 2D like controls
4)made the game tighter
5)You had to decide the right moves so you wouldnt let yourself open after a block
6)You couldnt easily avoid an enemies hit.It was either block the right move, hit with a faster move if his was slower, duck if it was a high hit, side step the traditional Tekken way which was harder and you had to be more timed.
The 3D movement in Tekken4 didnt work well.You were able to avoid easily many many moves.Thus the game felt less tight in terms of controls.Namco tright to correct this flaw with the walls but didnt work as well
The 3D movement works well in Soul Calibur becuase of vertical attacks and horizontal attacks.Its either duck or sidestep accordingly.Also that was introduced after Sould Edge.Fans werent as used to the controls as much as they were with 4 Tekkens introducing the same mechanism.
In Tekken4 there arent Vertical or horizontal attacks and Tekken fans are used to different gameplay schemes for a long time.

If anything Walls have made it more tactical. You also have to avoid them and make sure your don\'t get cornered.
Sidestepping attacks is an art in itself. Not all moves can be dodged easily and the recovery is a lot quicker.
I really don\'t think a lot of you guys have bothered even giving t4 a serious chance. I can\'t got back to TTT after it, it’s far to slow and just to easy. The computer is totaly stupid, its very easy to wait for attacks and counter them.
Don\'t play T4 unless you’re playing MP or if you play SP, do it only on Ultra Hard.

Tekken sucks, it feels like your character is walking on glue the whole time. A lot of people just wat for the opponent to mess up to throw out a powerful juggle starter.
They really ned to liven it up a bit, making it easier for you to get around the opponent if they like to sit there and turtle, forcing them to attack. They helped some by making walls, allowing you to push a turtler into it for a short stun, setting up a good amount of damage. They halfway succeeded but not quite.
Don\'t want it to be as crazy as Soul Calibur, but if the characters were actually moving like they were in a real fist-fight it would be a lot more fun.

Some moves cause way too much damage while you get the opponent cornered.The fight ends too fast.Too cheap sometimes.The opponent even if he has the skills if he happens to be unlucky once with the walls he is bound to lose the fight just before he even gets started.

In TTT though I find the Ultra Hard a lot more challenging.I cant beat the CPU unléss I use some AI weaknesses.Which are more in T4.

Balanced stages I personally recommend=Hon Maru, Arena, th eother one in the city (forgot the name) beggingng in the center of the stage

An improved fighting engine? Better character design? Anything at all? I\'m sorry, but Tekken, as much as I enjoy the earlier one\'s are nothing but a poor man\'s Virtua Fighter. The first three installments was fun, but TTT and T4 are awful. One can only hope Namco has got their act together.

Its not that i dont enjoy the games its just such a money spinner the way they reallease sequel upon sequel when there is nothing differnet about any of them

Character design seems improved(I cant recall any signifigant better character designs in other famous fightings except from SC).
I agree on improved fighting engine.But you cant judge since the game isnt even released yet.
I wonder why you found TTT awful.It wasnt even supposed to be a sequel.
And T4 was the first effort to change a fighting system on which Tekken evolved for years.It was a risk taken.It shows.Hardcore Tekken fans didnt accept T4 becuase of that.And it didnt work well wither.As a first "experiment" I believe that Namco can correct the flaws presented in T4.
Also I ve read that Namco was trying to change truelly the fighting system with T5.Now it remains to ibe seen what they have done.

We got 3 tekkens in a similar period we got 3 VFs.We couldnt see much difference since they were based on old hardware.
TTT wasnt supposed to be a sequel and was still based on old hardware.
Tekken4 was the first tekken that tried to be different.The problem was hardcore Tekken fans in arcades were used to the previous system, and also ideas were already used in other modern fighting games.What did we get?A not so good sequel
I say though lets not judge from these images alone.Lets wait till its released

Ok.Just watched the trailer.
Presentation is superb.
Graphics hugely improved.Also interactivity is better than the lame Tekken4.Lighting, special effects.The video wasnt smooth though so I cant comment much on animation.Graphics impressed me.
New characters:The new female character seems to have Juns moves and also extra moves that resemble a lot of the Aikido style in VF4.Probably after the negative feedback from fans when Jin\'s style changed they brought back Jun\'s style shich was similar to Jin\'s.The black guy has cool moves.As well as the other one that seems to fight a lot like the Shaolin monk in VF4.
How the fights looked:I believe it might be improved.Cant be 100% sure from teh video but it did look like a combination of Virtua Fighter, and Dead or alive only with Tekken moves to me.With other words it looked like a different fighting game with Tekken moves.The fights seemed more interesting and more engaging than previously
Dont take serisouly the last statement ofcourse.Only after we get the chance to play it we will know for sure.

Both, I personally HATED T4 when I first got it. Then I decided to give it a chance and really got into it with a few mates of mine, a few months later I tried TTT and found it to easy and it just feels a lot slower. Either pal (50hz) or ntsc (60hz) versions. T4 is just a faster game; I agree the AI is pretty easy too. Its indeed a MP game, but survival is where it can be fun. :)
Pretty much every mate of mine that has gotten fully into T4, and I mean with a passion can’t stand TTT anymore. As long as T5 keeps the button config and doesn\'t do a VF. I\'ll be happy. After all that’s what makes Tekken, well tekken.

Seems the reason why I didnt get to like Tekken4 as much as Tekken Tag after reading your last post is because of lack of mates that are good at Tekken :(.In the arcades the only place where I get to find good tekken players everyone is playing TTT becuase they suck at Tekken4.I rarely got the chance to play T4 with any of them (ofcourse I beat the shit out of em :D).

Yep, grabs have been tweaked. I foresee more people trying to use them now. Also getting out of them seems to be tweaked... all good. Just more for me to counter with. The stronger vs weaker system sounds great.. They REALLY need it in tekken.

Don\'t know if it\'s been mentioned already, but Namco\'s supposedly taking some elements from VF for Tekken 5, they\'re taking another risk, it seems...
Tekken 5 seems a lot more promising than 4, I\'ll say that much. TTT was the pinnacle of the series(Don\'t know how you could hate it, LIC. :p).

well the only thing that\'s keepin\' me tied to tekken is the storyline..don\'t get me wrong..i still like the game, but basically when i bought tekken 4 it was really more of the same...but that is what makes it better than virtual fighter imo..only because v.f. has practically no storyline to it...i feel that both fighters are about the same style wise (i know some will disagree) and let\'s be honest how much more can you put into either game that hasn\'t been done already?
so as far as i see it the storylines are what separate them & in this case tekken wins without a shadow of a doubt...

Tekken 4 is the only Tekken so far that has been somewhat disappointing to me. They did a lot of things that I liked, but there were also a lot of things that I hated. So far it sounds like Namco is going to correct those problems, and also introduce much-needed new gameplay mechanics to the aging series. I don\'t want to buy the hype, but I am getting pretty exited for Tekken 5 (I am actually looking forward to going to the arcades again!)
Oh, and Yoshimitsu looks so cool! :)

Haha, as I started reading your posts in this thread, the first thing I thought was "He doesn\'t have anyone to play Tekken 4 with, does he?"
I\'m the same way, my friends play, but I beat them far too easily.
Wish I could lpay Sooly, or Graddles again. That\'d be fun. Though I would be quite rusty. I enjoyed Tekken 4. Although nowadays, I find it almost impossible to do a reversal.
p.s. Getting chickens was the most fun thing about Tekken. :)
