nice pics...i just hope they tweak the gameplay a bit & make snake a little more versatile.(spel)
-
Is this game running in high definition? Those pics look like it, but it could just be output in high resolution for screen grabs...but its looks very detail and clean, even the texture is amazing. I couldn\'t detect any jaggies...
here is a great example of MGS3 picture quality:

Killer screens I can\'t wait for the trailer later today.
-
Looks amazing as usual. Konami really know how to utilise the ps2 to it\'s potential. :D
-
I highly doubt it would look that sharp
-
Yeah,
The trailers, it looks like the game is running at 640 x 480 and I notice a slight jaggies around snake. But still, the graphic is pretty amazing nonetheless.
-
If you check the trailer featured in a past PSM2 DVD yu ll see lost of jaggies...and lots of blurr.Still nice though
-
Well, the NTSC gamers get the lesser image quality. The PAL60 version will probably be more close to those pc screen captures.
Anyway, the game is coming along quite nicely. You can even see Konami put effort into trying to \'emulate\' visual FX from pc DX9 games. Of course, the somewhat lower polygoncount is a giveaway that this is not a high end pc game. But that\'s not a problem since Kojima\'s team excells at efficiently making relatively low poly models \'looking\' smoothed.
But I see there\'s one problem which remains... something that bugged MGS2 as well ; light/dark, contrast and saturation problems. This is kind inherent to PS2 games ; parts of game engines looking washed out. That\'s why MGS2 on PS2 couldn\'t rely on dark-light gameplay mechanics like in SplinterCell. So I hope they\'ll up the contrast level in the Snake Eater engine, or otherwise we\'ll be fiddling with our tv settings again

I never had any problem with the colors

Bookmark for later :D

Yeah, it is often a problem on ps2 that the contrast isnt that great. For what reason i dont know. Lighting effects work better or stand out more with the deeper contrasting like splinter cell or even some of the filters on GT3.
As for the screens, its interesting how Konami makes these low poly, not so wonderful textured models looks so great at the end. Its like manual Normal Mapping like in Riddick (the pitch black/vin diesel game).
2 questions though. What is on that guys/girls arm (the person with the gun thats NOT snake)? And in the picture where snake looks all messed up, he kinda looks like a mix of him and Vamp from MGS2. Not to mention that hes got some funky looking headphones on.
-
 Just saw those MGS3 clips from IGN. Although low res quality, they show MGS3\'ll be a true GOTY candidate. Just a-fvcking-mazing. Hope Konami gets that direct feed uploaded quickly.
-
Awesome pics...
Anyway...I never had a problem with the colors either. Maybe your guys\' TVs suck. You should get new ones. :p
-
Sadly enough thats not the problem. I think you dont know what im talking about. Either that or we have different opinions on contrast quality.
-
What is the story and when does this take place? If it is the 60s (like I heard) I can guarentee you are playing as Big Boss. Snake wasn\'t created until the late 70s according to the storyline in MGS. Doesn\'t even totally look like Snake. Snake or not, this game is gonna rock.
-
Yep.Thats bog boss alright.
He is also shown with one eye injured in the first trailer.Hints to Big Boss.
-
That crocodile head disguise it hilarious! I\'d shit my pants if someone ran at me with that on their head and an AR15 in their hands.
-
I loved in the camoflage trailer that Snake/Big Boss was sneaking through the log and the head came out and the guard went running in the woods screaming. I watched that over and over :)
-
The vids on IGN are amazing. I\'m all excited about MGS yet again. Hopefully there\'ll be a direct feed trailer soon but even the low quality ones on IGN are decent enough for now.
-
I\'m holding out for the direct feed, I want the best off the bat not some digital camcorder job, hurry the hell up Konami :bounce:
-
The problem is that the ones Konami release are often low resolution and really small though. It\'ll probably be a 30mb 10 min mpeg trailer or something with just as bad quality as these digicam jobs.
-
Well if thats the case I\'ll have to wait for a cover dvd with it on.

I don\'t have problem with mine TV. Is your tv color temperature and color decoder out of whack? meaning way off? Too high?
If your tv is out of whack, get it calibrated if by going into the service menu (hidden codes on the tv), and adjust the color temperature such as Red, Blue, and Green Cut and R, G, B Drives. And also adjust color decoder such as RYR, RYB, GYR, GYB. Especially red push from RYR and RYB...
red and blue tends to over exxagerated especially red...
but again, if you don\'t know what you are doing, you could ruin your tv....
videoholic might know more about this...

I think this whole issue involves 2 factors ;
- differences between PAL and NTSC video output
- knowing the difference in image contrast between
PS2 and Xbox consoles.
Ok, I\'m in the PAL region. I have my PS2 on a Sony 21" Wega tv
via the official PS2 PAL Euro RGB cable ; it\'s the best of the official
cables, so no problems there.
But I think that NTSC does put out a higher saturation value by nature, than PAL.
To explain the other point ; the Splinter Cell example : SC on Xbox had great light-dark contrast, the whole engine was built for just that, so that if Sam is in total darkness, you the player cannot see him. Now, the PS2 (and NGC version) have different video output characteristics ; many games on PS2 tend to have this slight \'washed out\' quality to them. That was also the case in the PS2 version of SC ; Sam was still visible in total darkness. So there we have it ; parts where dark and light need to contrast alot (also dependant on drawdistance), PS2 games tend to have this displayed incorrectly. I recently bought MGS2 Substance for Xbox and I was quite surprised that the Xbox version does indeed display MGS2\'s light-dark contrast levels better than the original PS2 version.
I hope you NTSC guys know what we PAL\'s mean now.... :p

E3 2004: Metal Gear Solid 3 Code Stolen
Allegedly two little punks made off with the demo build.
May 14, 2004 - As reported today on Gamesradar, two unidentified people attending E3 yesterday made off with the demo code for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The one-level demo has been on display at Sony and Konami\'s booths.
According to reports, the two thieves, believed to be young men between 19-20 years old, cracked the case protecting the demo PS2 and leaned against the unit until they were able to eject the disc. They then made a mad dash for the doors.
The LAPD are currently investigating the situation, though details about the perpetrators are still unknown. We\'ve heard no official comment from Konami, Sony, or the Los Angeles Convention Center so far, but we\'ll keep you updated with developments as they come in.

Knotter8,
I see what you are talking about. PAL and NTSC probably does have a slightly different "Color Gamut" on their TV. But not by much. Both pretty much have the white color as the D6500k temperature.
Also, I found out that NTSC have a black level at 7.5 IRE and white level at 100 IRE.
But the ps2 have black level at 0 IRE and 100 IRE for white. This is correct way to watch video, but American NTSC still haven\'t switch to 0 IRE for black, and who cares since we like other countires are slowly moving to HDTV which have black level at 0 IRE. Except Japan NTSC which use the correct 0 IRE, but if you play videogame with ps2, the video appear a little too dark in America, so what to do? Crank up the black level to reach 7.5 IRE and crank down the white level 7.5 IRE so it won\'t clipped as 107.5 IRE for white...
anyway, enough talk about that. The PAL, i am not sure if its black level is at 0 IRE or 7.5 IRE....my guess 0 IRE...
try this on your sony remote control. While the tv is turned off, aim the remote control directly at the tv, press this:
DIS, 5, VOL UP, and Power.
This will show you the Service Menu...
but leave it alone. Turn off the TV by press power and you will exit it...
Also, i have some other theories why ps2 appear too dark. may have to do with the gamma tracking is a little too dark or maybe its doesn\'t pass blacker than black level...
Edited:
Black level is usually called "Brightness" on the TV main menu.
so let me make these terms more easily to understand:
Black level = brightness
white level = picture, aka. contrast
Anyway,
if you know what you are doing adjust these settings will make shadow details richer and color saturation more accurate.
Adjust
RDRV to 30
GDRV to 21
BDRV to 10
Again, PAL slightly have a different color gamut than US....
here are my settings on TV main menu for watching broadcast over the air:
Video Setting:
Standard
picture: 22 Notches
brightness: 32 notches (center)
color: 32
tint: 32
sharpness: 18
VSM: OFF
Its very important to have VSM turned off for
all type of tv as this give the tv fake edge enhancements and reduces the lifespan of your tv .
So if anybody who have a tv with VSM and its available on the menu, i strongly recommend you guys turn it to off as it will reduce the lifespan of your tv if its turn to low or high....
-
Oh, to get the correct black level,
in the service menu, go to SBRT and adjust it from 12 to 14. So the brightness in the main menu is accurate at 32 notches...
here is the video setting for me when i played my ps2 since ntsc have 7.5 IRE for black while ps2 have it at 0 IRE...
picture: 18
Brightness: 36
color: 30
tint: 32
sharpness: 18
VSM: OFF
As you can see, the picture setting is down from 4 notches, and brightness is up from 4 nothces from my other setting.
Also, color is at 30 instead of 32 as i found out the ps2 rather have a slightly saturated color that\'s higher than SMPTE...or HDTV color gamut...I could posted the link that show the lab tests of playstation 2...let me look for it...
But since your tv is PAL, I don\'t think you need to worry about black level...

I\'m loving the outdoor, exotic approach, Konami is looking to serve up a great title!
