A shady story for sure but thought I\'d share anyway...
http://www.freewebs.com/realgamesplayer/insiderscoops.htm
On the 12 th of May, Day 1 of E3, Sega will showcase to the world it\'s re-entry into the Console hardware arena.
We first reported on a rumour regarding Sega returning to hardware about a month ago, but now the rumour is a reality, Financially revitalised, finally debt free, Sega now firmly belives it has what it takes to rule the roost.
But why you may ask are they doing this? wouldn\'t it be suicide? well no, not really. You see when Sega was making the dreamcast hardware it was selling an average of between 25-30 million units of software per year. Since going third party that number has always remained in the 6-10 million range. Besides the reason for going third party in the first place was to stop the losses and have a chance to get rid of it\'s debt (well over a billion dollars). Third party was never a permanent business plan. Did Isao Okawa give away he\'s life savings to save a software developer? No! re-entering hardware in the next round was always the plan. Did Sammy splash out half a billion dollars just for arcade floor space? No!
What we\'re trying to get at is that the signs have always been there, but now rejoice!
IT IS TIME FOR THE BIGGEST COMEBACK STORY OF ALL TIME.
*Update* A Sega rep has informed us that the next machine will be of platinum color.

In a perfect world Sega would make an awesome comeback and reclaim 2nd place;)...and I would get NiGHTS 2.
Entering the console hardware arena at this point would be suicide. Sony hasn\'t missed a beat, MS is picking up steam, and Nintendo is doin\' alright considering.
The only place I could see a possibility of new hardware is in the portable arena. Gameboy is the undisputed king, then Sony is ready to enter (with a hefty price tag for sure), and we have the disaster of Ngage. There just might be room for GameGear 2...
Honestly, I\'d rather see the news of Sega pairing up with someone. I think they would compliment any one console\'s lineup rather nicely...then maybe they could focus and deliver some more quality titles.

Freewebs.com, eh?

I\'ve seen the first post about a month ago at Gaming Age. I wonder if this happens, Will Sega support Xbox, PS2 and GC with games?
-
no, sega, no
you left honorably

Good Old SEGA...a true fighter never quits!!!!
Anyways I want a reliable source to confirmed this.
-
What does Sega know about hardware? Sony makes chips and MS makes dev tools, along with having ties in the industry.
Yea I know they have the experience and AM2 is always innovating, I guess I\'m just tiffed I may have to buy yet another console to play Sega games :p

I ve read about this rumor somewhere else as well.If they do this they will sink.
They failed with the Saturn. They failed with the DC.And imagine.DC had all these AAA games.Everything seemed perfect for the future. What makes them so sure they can survive now if this is true? They have lost credibility and trust. They dont have fiancial power to start a well made marketing campaign to compete with Sony and MS.And I doubt if they have the financial power to start making a big number of projects to launch with the console.
As for hardware THX said it.And except for knowledge they dont even have the financial power to spend on research to create hardware that can compete.
Look at Sony. They ve spend millions(or was it billions) and years of research just for the development of the cell chip.

:surprised :sconf: :iono: :banghead: :screwy: :blah:

Since the rumor started there has been another rumor that Sega\'s new console has already failed.
-
I\'m just glad that this Freewebs.com site is getting plenty of attention with it\'s various Sega rumors..

I know how you feel... I really want to see Sega take hold of the industry, maybe once more. There never has been or would be a better comeback than Sega rising from the ashes and dominating.

If only sega didn\'t release too many expensive hardware units / add ons back in the early 1990s, then they wouldn\'t have fail.
Sega Genesis - a true success
Sega CD - what\'s this? addon? A true failure.
Sega 32x - what\'s this? another failure
Sega Saturn - a true next step from the Genesis, but maybe the price tag, hard to program games on, and isn\'t as powerful as psOne lead it to failure.
Judging from that, Sega had learn it lessons and no longer have add ons or releasing a newer unit every 1 or 2 years....
and comes the
Sega Dreamcast - yeap, I like it how Sega finally have evolve, but unfortunately, lack of 3rd parties support lead it to failure. Also, in graphic comparisons, ps2, xbox, and nintendo have the upper hands here.
-
PS2 didn\'t have the graphical upperhand back then...

Actually it wasnt just that. They acted naively. They thought that becuase they were "alone" in the market and that Sony was a newcomer(like Goldstar/Panasonic) they underestimated competition.Sony tried to gain support from developers, and did good marketing.Sega didnt give much attention to that.
The Saturn was also made with 2D games in mind.3D graphics werent exactly the Saturn\'s main sepciality.
Also it was the fact that Sega fans expected to see the return of old classics which were few (WHAT?NO SONIC? ).Also Sega brought mostly arcade games on the Saturn. This worked well in the 16 bit era since simplicty was the gameplay\'s main characteristic but no longer in the 32 bit generation. You cant build on Arcade franchises like Virtua Cop, Virtal On or Sega Rally on a console that belongs to a generation that shifts to a different (even more complicated) gaming experience.
Also it was the fact that the hardware limitations and programming wouldnt help the Saturn to build on better sequels. Its obvious since Sega continued sequels of their most well known titles on Model3.
No Sega Rally2, No VF3, No VC2, No VO2 etc on Saturn.

Damn them. They brought such marvelous titles with the DC!!Shenmue was a masterpiece!!Sonic came back with stunning graphics in its time (hell that stage with the tornado still impresses me)!!Not to mention other titles!!And i also had great support at the beginning. They shouldnt have underestimated competition and hasted their product!!
Technologically completely inferior.Couldnt have survived till now.

I\'m gonna go out on a limb and say not many bought a Dreamcast because of the name. I remember first hearing of it on IRC and everyone thought it was :ghey:
Stupid I know but when you\'re dealing with kiddies, name and image are important.
I wish Sega teamed up with Nintendo to create a real resistance against the corporate machines. :D
