Title: Can\'t "view source"
Post by: Cerberus on May 14, 2004, 12:14:14 AM
When I\'m browsing the net, and I find a site with an effect that looks interesting, I always go to view>source to try to find out how it\'s done.

But for some reason, when I tried it today, a blank notepad came up with no coding in.

Has something been altered in the internet settings? If so, what might it be?

unless it\'s pr0n post the site.

Does this happen with every site?  If not, you could always throw the url into Download accelerator and open the HTML file once it\'s on your HD.

Yeah, it happens on every site I visit now, whereas yesterday notepad opened with the full coding for that page, it now just opens & remains blank.

That is what\'s puzzling me, I haven\'t changed any settings (well not to my knowledge anyway)

Found those through a Google, dunno if they\'ll help but worth a shot.

Try clearing out your internet cache and make sure Notepad is selected in Tools > internet options > programs > html editor.  Then make sure there is no shortcut to Notepad on your desktop.  If you have one either remove it or renmae to something else.

I think it could be a problem with notepad. I opened notepad, and saved it as test.txt and it just makes a noise from the floppy disk drive, then a message comes up saying please insert a disk in drive A

why might that happening?

maybe because you haven\'t inserted a disk? ;)

but it shouldn\'t be doing that, it never did it before. It\'s not like I selected drive A to save it to in the first place.

When you save a text document, a box should come up first asking what you want to call it.

edit//

It\'s almost like it\'s saying the notepad.exe file is on the A drive.

I just noticed that when I save notepad documents, I can\'t open them again by clicking on the icon, nothing happens.

This is starting to piss me off.

I ran adaware and it found a "possible browser hijacking program" in the registry, so I removed it.

Then I ran anti-virus and it came up with this.

I don\'t know wtf is going on here.

yea my IE is screwed too, I just use firefox now. View source is in firefox too.

That picture is weird, your notepad must hav e got ****ed. Try opening a regular text doc and see if that works. If it doesn\'t then it\'s a notepad problem amd firefox won\'t work probably.

It doesn\'t work, I can\'t open anything with it.

A friend told me he had the same problem, he said there was some spyware placed on his HD that altered the notepad.exe file, but he hasn\'t told me how he sorted it.

I\'m pissed off, I really am, I only got this computer on monday, and only signed on the net with it for the first time on wednesday.
