Title: Powerbook Scammer gets Scammed
Post by: THX on May 21, 2004, 03:56:41 AM
Feel good internet story of the month (http://www.mannequin3d.com/powerbook/).

I know many of you just like to skim things so I took the liberty of creating a Cliff notes version, though I recommend you get the juicy details and pictures from reading the webpage, as long as it may be...

----------------------------------

- Guy in UK tried tried to scam an American ebayer
- Ebayer finds out but gets ideas from the Mac community to string this guy along
- Ebayer emails him back, agreeing to send him the item (a powerbook) outside of Ebay
- Ebayer makes a joke Powerbook out of a 3-ring binder (look for pics)
- Ebayer goes to Fedex and sets the value of the package at $2200
- Since he set the value so high the scammer has to pay the import duty: $650! in order to receive the package
- Mac nerds see on the Fedex site the scammer paid the import tax for the package and jump for joy
- Ebayer emails scammer asking politely for his money and how he likes his new Powerbook
- Scammer responds by sending the ebayer an obvious virus, unsuccesful

What goes around comes around. :hat:

I wish I had the link to this one dork who claimed to sell car parts but didn\'t send out the parts. The buyer arrives at his doorstep and proceeds to beat the hell out of him. The dork\'s father, who\'s a State Police Office, breaks up the fight, tells his dorky son to give him the parts AND the money! :D
