Do you guys think, that true Artificial Intelligence will ever be created?
That is saying, a stand alone manufactured mind can function as a normal human to full capacity with no outside interference.
I dont see it happening.

Well considering its the year 2004 and I don\'t see my flying cars and girl robots to have sex with, if it does it will be in an incredibly long time.

damn inferior gay male sexbots....

I would assume u would have to use a human brain to do it but how u would make it think for itself again without making it a real person i dont know, u couldnt get a compouter or any kind of electronics to do it.
I guess if somehting was created and it was fully artificailly intelligent then it would be a human...but then would it be artificial?

Well you would say that baing an A.I.

it\'ll happen, but only if we don\'t get terminated (i.e. nuclear war) beforehand
-
or maybe it\'ll happen after a nuclear type disaster..
LOOK AT TERMINATOR!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
but seriously, I can see it happening in my lifetime. there are already lots n lots of interesting developments in the fledgeling (sp)feild of AI. Like that hospital cart thing that can learn it\'s way through the hospital like a pimply intern would. Facial recognition technology, the work being done with natural language processing. We\'re not there yet, but we\'ll get there. Hell I might even do a bit of "real AI work" myself. I\'ll be sure to spam you all about it if I do.
Which reminds me, look at my sig:

AI would have to learn to react to it environment. It must be raised as a child, it must learn from its mistakes. Life if about trial and error. That\'s what makes us humans and animals what we are. To program all that into a computer chip would take a life time of work. And who decides what the personallity will be?
The only AI I see happening are those that are specialised to do just one thing, like a robot that can only stir fry food or drive a bus on the freeway installed with monitors to keep the robot from colliding into debris or obstacles or other vehicles.

A few years ago I ve heard that russians created a computer that had the intelligence matching the one of a baby.Which is quite a breakthrough

The Japanese had one, as well. They called it "Tamagotchi".

Exactly like a damn baby. The Russians needs some catching up to do. :p

Don\'t Forget Lionheads
Black & white....
It\'s Tamagotchi for Rich Stupid people....
(i say Stupid because you have to be..if you where conned by the Hype of the game, and failed to relise in timethat its just a glorified Tamagotchi...and went out and bought it).
/me rubs sore wound left by Black & white.

They already do have AI...
http://radio.weblogs.com/0105910/2003/08/20.html
Im still searching, but there is a robot that is in the process of "learning" they have younger children interact with the machine. I watched a special on it. It learns by imitating humans. I\'ll keep searching for the link

There are two current branches of AI development.. and most of the ones listed above fall into the first branch - simulated AI. It\'s not real AI, it\'s done by software, and by writing many sweeping algorithms that a robot can follow, and will follow based upon heirerarchical order. It\'s basically very advanced programming, and it can allow something to interact in a situation it\'s never faced before, but at the end of the day, it will fall back upon it\'s core programming.
The second branch of AI, true AI, involves simulating a human brain by making neural networks... This is the field my father is working in.. but that field is barely in it\'s infancy. True, learning networks are basically simulated brains.. but currently (and for the forseable future) running in a simplified manner, and with at most a few dozen connected neurons (compared to our thousands of connections in a cluster, with millions of overall neurons/clusters). True AI has a bunch of problems to overcome - input must be carefully tailored to the type of network created, output cannot necessarily be explained (and certainly can\'t be explained by the neural network), depending on the task, if a cluster learns something \'wrong\' then it\'s output can be forever thrown off.

hehe.Well that think barely has the processing power of an Atari.A fly\'s brain has more processing power than any computer just to get an idea.

They should have it actually think its a human and have people interact with it as if it was. Eh but that would be kinda difficult. I really sorta think that its possible but then sometimes i think that the complexity of doing something like that is just to much.
Besides, what would be the point in creating something with A.I. equivalent to a human? It wouldnt do anything but cause controversy and who knows, it might lead to some pretty bad things.
Even if its possible, I see no reason to get too close to the human mind.

Black and white is a good game!!!!

I loved that game, teaching the creatures was fun. :(

Here\'s the trick, we don\'t involve this "true" A.I. with our nuclear weapons.
