I am planning on buying 50 discs of blank CD-R media. Do you think I should go with Sony brand?
I heard that sometimes the color dye of the disc could be important too....
What\'s your recommendation on these?

makes little difference on cdr\'s
it makes HUGE difference on dvdr\'s
-
I\'m partial to Verbatim. 0 platters in 4 years.

Look, CD-R is important too because its playable on CD player. I use it mostly for burning music, dude and back up data. I just ran out of these discs severa days ago. And beside, I don\'t have a dvd burner yet. I used to buy one but have no success burning any discs....it ruined my discs...so i will wait for a while when DVD burner settle down some more and more user friendly.

Uh? You used to buy one? What the hell are you smoking? And if you buy a good DVD burner, with decent media you will be set. As far as user friendly , how much simpler can it get...Load Nero up / add files / click burn.
Sorry if that is too complicated for you.

TDK, plain and simple. For the past year it\'s all I\'ve used for DVD+R and CD-R.
-
TDK for me too.

I did burn some home video, but unfortunately I can\'t get it to play on my DVD player.
It have to do with cheap dvd burner, and the media itself...
I tried 3 different dvd burners, and I were unhappy with 3 of them so I returned it.
-
I like TDK also
Used to blow my money on Memorex but they seem mid grade at best. Verbatim a tad better.
-
EMTEC is also pretty good. Haven\'t had coasters with either brand.
-
TDK for me as well.

Three different burners, differnt media even. Guess it never occured to you it was either (A) user error or (B) a cheap ass DVD player.

Verbatim >TDK
Heck at one point Tayo-yaden(best CD-R manufacturer in the world) was manufacturing for Verbatim.
-
^ as long as the burner doesn\'t make coasters and the media is good enough to play in any dvd player, cd rom and Audio player. I\'m happy with it. :)
-
Thanks to nero not telling me that the file formats HAVE to be Mp3\'s or wav\'s i have destroyed about 6 Cd\'s
-
I totally agree with you Soulgrind. Heck I Even use Memorex when people want lots of stuff from me on CD. Why give them the expensive stuff.
-
I\'ve used a lot of different brands over the years. But i\'m not really locked into any particular brand.
Although at the moment I have a 50 Disc spindle of Imation on my computer desk. :)

I used the pretty darn cheap ones on cd-r\'s and middle of the road on DVDs.
Haven\'t had a single one screw up on me with over a couple hundred burned.

Nah, my dvd player isn\'t cheap. It could be user error, but no cheap ass dvd player there. Its just the 2002 dvd player I bought that i told you guys it broke recently last month and it doesn\'t seem to be compatible with some dvd discs that i burns. I guess its have to do with encryption restriction or something. Other dvd player are less restricited on how you burn a dvd disc and how you finalized it like the sony stand a lone dvd player, but my PS2 and panasonic doesn\'t seem to recognize them.
The newer panasonic 2003 and 2004 models are less restricted and seem to read better too. the 2003 can read both -R/+R and possible -/+RW too with DVD-RAM.
But the weird thing is the 2004 model can only read -R only....but i guess you can trick it to be compatible.
Also I bought no name DVD burners brand...my uncle made us buy Emprex, it burn nicely, it play on S360 but not on rp-62 and ps2 without hickups.
Then second dvd burner, a better known brand called TDK, suck...it not recognizeable on any dvd player.
Then 3rd dvd burner, I/O Magic isn\'t compatible with any dvd player. So I give up.
My guess it have to do with the software (Easy CD Creator 6 sucks),
and the dvd burners
and the media (i bought Memorex DVD-Rs but it said to burn the ISO image on the disc last or something for it to be playable)...
Again, Like I said I will wait till DVD burner improve (the speed and stuff) before I buy one.
Forget about dvd burners for now as I am talking about CD-R.

I\'ve had my DVD player since 1999. I have no problems with any DVDs I\'ve burned so far.
Knock on wood.
-
same thing with Sony stand a lone S360 model made in 2000. It play both +R and -R.
-
So , if it\'s not a cheap DVD player, I think we can all agree it was a user error.
That solves that.
-
Memorex, I have burned over a hundred of their discs. Not one single problem.
-
CD-R - I use Discrite £22 for 100 discs, never had a problem with them.
DVD-R - I use Ritek Tango £32 for 100 excellent quality also.
