Could this be an attempt to counter XNA?
-
Woah.... Sony going all out.
-
Don\'t these things take alot of time to develop, implement, and garner support?
-
Yeah they do , which means if they start now, it would be ready sometime within the next 3 - 5 years. One can only assume that they have been working on this for quite sometime and this is just a position that has opened up.
-
yea support would be the biggest thing i think they have to worry bout
i mean directx has been around forever and it hasnt had any problems really as far as i can tell
so why switch
-
variety is always good. So is competition :D
Let\'s hope this quickens dev time and lowers prices like MS has been saying XNA will do.

Now, what if this new Sony stuff is fits directly (lol) in line with
PS2 - PS3 Cell - PSP to PC development ? I think it spells the capitals ; BIG POTENTIAL.
I think it\'s probable that Sony recognizes and acknowledges that PC as a gaming platform is gaining strength and market userbase as of lately. I think they realize that if they stay with the current development and bussiness model of consoles, they\'ll be dinosaurs in a few years from now.
-
I\'m sure IBM\'s software boffins are coding some PS3 development suites. Plus the boffins at Sony Japan, Sony Europe with Criterion Software, like these two did with PS2 will be working on software too.

Absolutely!
PS. this one for you THX--"absoilutly"
-
haha doh, I ain\'t a spelling Nazi, I\'m really not. Just out of all the words to spell wrong it\'s pretty ironic to do it to the "C" word ;)
A competitor to DirectX/XNA will just push to keep MS on their toes, making it the best it can be. And who knows, if Sony\'s API turns out to be the best one more power to em.

Whats funny is I was saying the same thing about Sony in the XNA thread a couple weeks back and a bunch of people(mainly Unicron) swore up and down that the Sony style of development was better.
Looks like Sony agrees with me. :D
