Title: Recommend a Game
Post by: Ginko on June 08, 2004, 04:27:54 PM
inspired by L-I-C\'s movie thread

Recommend a game(s) that you think got overlooked and would be worth checking out.  Try to stick to the current generation of systems.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends (GC)
I played it back on the DC when it first came out and it quickly became my favorite RPG.  I bought it for my GC and went through it again, the only RPG I\'ve bothered play twice.  Since the DC days Skies has been replaced as my favorite RPG, but it still remains in my top three.

The story is quite interesting but it\'s the characters that will keep you going.

Would you mind mentioning why?  Perhaps some highlights of the game to at least spark some interest.

Mario vs Donkey Kong. Good, wholesome fun.

It\'s for GBA, but that\'s considered a current-gen handheld system.

Why? Oh. uhm..

Alright - the single most original and innovating fight system yet - which is to deep for me to explain. Great graphics, great stealth kills and plenty of extra\'s. Or an even shorter answer is, because I said so.

I never could finish \'Skies of Arcadia\', not sure why. I bought it release day and never bothered to finish it.

Dragonball Z Budokai 2:  I like it cause it\'s simple fighting and has a lot of characters.  The "Story Mode"  is alright I guess, but I like the arcade fighting mode.

beyond good & evil- another underated game that slipped under the radar..this game has a great storyline..original characters..and the world of hyllis is a live one..the towns you visit are full of life and people chattering...some of the stealth spots hurt it a little but it\'s an overall solid title...i just wish they would have went with the 1st jade model they created..the one they used was fine but i liked the 1st one better..

rise to honor--i know alot of cats have ripped on this game but i think it\'s a great game..it actually plays out like a jet-li film..the controls take a little getting used to but when you do get the hang of it,..you\'ll truly feel like you\'re in a john woo movie..only thing that hurts this title is the stealth part of it...and once you beat it, it has a decent amount of extras to unlock...this was another sleeper hit...

Here\'s my guilty pleasure game:

Lemmings 3-D for the PS1

This is a great game that really makes you use your head.  If you can get over the poor ps1 graphics, you might find this game very fun.

There are plenty of levels with themes from \'\'candy" to "horror movies."

The funny voice-overs and animations just add to the pleasure of solving the 3 dimensional puzzles.

There is a great satisfaction that comes with watching the last Lemming cross into the safe zone of a level you just beat.

Thats funny. The same exact thing happened to me. Got it at launch and then after a while just stopped playing it.

I wonder how it ended.

But lesse... How \'bout Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram? One of my favorite Sega games of all time. Incredibly fast and very fun at high levels of play, great balance between all of the Virtuaroids, and some nifty extras(Twin Stick Controller support, Link Cable support, Replays).

... Hrm. Makes me sad that VO:Marz was such a disappointment. Can\'t believe Watari screwed up the formula so much, what was he thinking?

Indeed it is FAR better, but I\'m trying to recommend a game that no one has played or at least very few have.  MotW fits that description pretty sucinctely.

As did I.

Havent gotten around to playing this one but i was kinda hoping they would keep the subtle mysticism with the ambient d&b music like in the first trailer (when it was still called Project BG&E)

Title: Recommend a Game
Post by: Zolar on July 02, 2004, 08:03:18 PM
It\'s an action slasher game with light RPG elements.  The graphics are incredible, and it has great gameplay!  The environments are way cool, but it has a challenge.  It\'s not as hard to finish as Ninja Gaiden, but there are a few bad ass bosses.  I highly recommend this game if you like action with a cool story.

I thought Otogi was ass.  I think that one is more of a love it\\hate it game where you\'re on one side of the fence or the other.

Although I don\'t agree with that game, I DEFINITELY have to throw out props to Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.  If anyone in this thread has yet to play that game, they should go rent it now or buy it for 20 bucks.  It is totaly worth 20 bucks.

Yeah, I understand what your saying Ryu, kinda like Dynasty Warriors 3, if you like hack n slash action then you will love it.  If you don\'t like hack n slash platformers then look elsewhere.

OTher games:

Champions of Norrath
Baldurs Gate II
The Suffering
The Thing-(My second favorite movie next to Aliens!)
Star Wars: KOTOR

That\'s not really what I\'m saying.  It\'s not really a problem with the genre as plenty of games similar to Otogi are a lot of fun in my opinion, but I just think Otogi sucked.  Similar to how I enjoyed Psi Ops, but hated Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain.

Marvel Super Heros - DC
Soul Calibur 1 - DC
Virtua Tennis 2 - DC
Shenmue 1/2 - DC
Streetfighter 3 /1/2/3 - DC
Powerstone 1/2 - DC
Vs. Fighting games. On all systems Good fun.
Tekkens for psx/ps2. Virtual Fighters for Saturn/DC/ps2. Streetfighter collections on almost all systems
Guilty Gear X - DC
SoulCalibur 2 - ps2

Neogeo Games
Metal Slug Series
Art of Fighter series
King of Fighters series
Mark of the Wolves (don\'t like the first fatal furys)
Samurai Shodown (expect 5. Big let down)
Last Blade Series

As you can see, I’m a fighter whore when it comes to consoles.  Almost all my games are only fighters on my systems. PC is for everything else I like, RTS, FPS, RPG, etc..

I almost bought a Neo Geo Gold system back in the day.  It was like $800 CDN!  It had a fighting game(I forget which one), Magician Lord, and Nam 75.  That system was the ultimate back then, but those cartridges were damn epensive!  I remember some of those cartridges were like over 200 megs, compare that to Strider for Genesis which was 16!  It was the rich mans gaming system.

And soul, are you talking about Vs. the series where the main comercial character was the girl with the cuff w/o sleeves and pink hair?

I second ToS and CoR.  Both games are well done.

As for an original shout, I have to give it to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo on PSOne or GBA.
