yeah, i know. souly gonna love this one
i jumped on the gateway deal after seeing it on anandtech\'s forums
$390.60 after discount and now free overnight shipping with the mess up gateway did with ordering.
some websites are selling the x800 pro\'s for $399+
saw 6800u\'s for $580
better not have a single driver issue
:rpissed:
-
.....and in that other videocard thread from not so long ago, you were still talking ALL Nvidia. Money is still a universal languague i see :o
-
The only reason I didn\'t vigorously try to get through to Gateway to get that card was very simple.
PCI-E. I\'m going to need to upgrade to take full advantage of the card, and some PCI-E mobos apparently don\'t have full AGP compatibility although they claim to. Something about running "AGP" on the original 33MHz PCI bus..
Not every manufacturer will do this, but at least one already has. Significantly lower performance.
-
mm has converted to the light side ;)
I\'ll end up getting a 9800 XT.
-
knot, back then it WAS all nvidia
now, 6800u and x800 xt pe are +/- 5fps
and who\'s to say i wont get pissed with driver related issues, sell my 800 xt pe on ebay for hella profit and get a 6800u anyways :)
-
mm, i just hope for you, you have the best performance for your moey with that card. me myself, i\'m still in very much doubt at least for some months i guess. Cuz i really would like to be able to play half life 2 and splinter cell 3 at topquality visuals and framerate.
situation right now :
P4 3,2 ghz with 1 gb of corsair ddr500 and the
nvidia quadrofx 1000 workstation card (nv30)
on the 45.28 drivers all on a pc4800e socket 478
mobo with the antec truepower 380w psu.
now, i will still need the isv certified cards for
my maya5 and cinema4d r8 work, so that means
i need a strong opengl card and stability.
i don\'t see myself upgrading to pci-e, cuz then i might as well
upgrade all of my pc, for which i of course lack the resources.
the future upgrade options the way i see \'em from now ;
- waiting til quadrofx3000 gets cheaper
- getting the geforce 6800 GT since all nvidia cards, wether quadro or geforce, are known to be quite reliable at dcc apps like maya.
i guess... time will reveal the best options..
-
im running a ti4600 atm, i skipped the 5700/9800 generation
my p4@ 3.6 is begging for it
-
GATEWAY????? GATEWAY????? I had noithing but problems with the Proprietary Bullcrap with my last one (wouldnt let me add memory and then KILLED MY HD (it Burned up...not literally but it got UBER hot).
-
gateway and the gateway accessory store are two totally different animals
-
m running a ti4600 atm, i skipped the 5700/9800 generation
So am I, yet the funny thing is that I will most likely be getting a 6800 GT-Overclocked to Ultra levels.
While you have opted for the 9700 on Crack, plus I will have a card that can run useless PS 3.0 in FP32 at 15fps--Yeh!!!
GO NVIDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun with your shitty ATI drivers, for every new Catalyst ATI releases they create more additions bugs.
;) ;) ;) ;)
-
still on that rag, eh?
oh, and you will never get the gt\'s 350mz core to 450mz, that of the ultra
im only going with ati for the 1st time because it\'s 1st available, the difference between the 6800u is negligible and i got a great deal
-
ehh you said the same thing with me over clocking my ti card.. yet its still overclocked over 1 year later and nothing is wrong with it.
-
overclocking a card, and overclocking the core GPU 100mz are two totally different animals
especially one that runs as hot as the 6800u
you think it has that double size heatsink for any old reason?
-
He may be using water cooling.
These doods got pretty close

-
yet its still overclocked over 1 year later and nothing is wrong with it.
My Ti4600 has been overclocked and VOLT modded for 2 years, yet still it runs perfect just like the day I bought it.
I do have some serious cooling for that card.
Also The 6800 GT is $100 less than the 6800U and it outperforms the X800Pro. Now rumor has it that ATI might release a X800 XT-Non platinum edition, (lower GPU/Mem speed, with 16 working pipelines) in order to compete with the 6800 GT. If this does indeed occur I will be getting the X800 XT.
-
can get a ATI Radeon X800 Pro for around £180 to 200.
:D...
An ATI Radeon X800 Pro and Half Life 2 wil Sexoursise me very much.
In fact it will sexoursise me so much that i might do a SEX wee the firsat time I fire up the game.
-
Well I for one am a happy camper with my new ATi card, a 9600xt but I\'m broke so I won\'t be getting an x800 any time soon.
I\'m not really that concerned if I can get a gazillion fps instead of only bazillion fps, I need image quality in and especially out of games and that\'s what I\'m getting.
Anyhoo, congrats with your card. :)
-
image quality?
crank 4xAA and 16xAF at 1280x1024 and see how the 9600xt does
-
But i think Nvidia is winner in the $ 399 price range with the 6800 GT ; 16 pixel pipelines, ps3.0 and slightly better scores than the X800Pro.
So, for me it will be either the 6800 GT now, plus a PCI-e notebook in January
OR
a Nvidia QuadroFx3000 within a coupla months....
or... just waiting to see what happens
-
$400 is 4 gamecubes :( ;)
Still a nice price for such a card. People on AVSForum started receiving theirs, let us know how you like it.
-
ps3.0 and slightly better scores than the X800Pro.
PS 3.0 is a useless feature in the NV40 since it\'s not mature enough. When the NV40 was running Far cry in PS 3.0 FP32 the game was getting 15fps max. The problem is 3.0 uses FP32 which takes a major hit on the gpu\'s performance, like I said,
the Hardware PS3.0 is in its premarital state, although it is a nice PR selling point.
But i think Nvidia is winner in the $ 399 price range with the 6800 GT
Agreed!!

Actually I tried that in UT2004 and it did surprisingly well, no slow downs, not fast by any means but much better that I expected.
But what I need are good colors because I do a lot of photoshopping and I can see a big difference between my 9600 and a 5900 card I tried.
