Title: Getting my wisdom teeth out
Post by: Titan on June 23, 2004, 08:45:11 PM
Yeah, that is gonna suck. I get knocked out though atleast. Its like 12:45 AM here and my mom won\'t put on the a/c and I can\'t sleep in the heat. Gonna be tired when I have to go in tomorrow to get them removed. On the bright side, I get out of work and have an excuse to sit on my ass for a day or two. What were your experiences like? My bro had trouble for a couple weeks so I\'m not too keen on getting them out. Also, my mom\'s whole face was like black and blue when she got her\'s out. Yup, what fun this will be :stick:

Ouch...I bet that will hurt a lot worse than when I got my braces put on.  However, the first 3 days hurt like mad.  Even though I have only had them about 6 months, for an overbite, I went to the orthodontist yesterday and he said that I am almost done.  They don\'t really bother me that much anymore though.

Well, I am sure you all don\'t care that much.

Sorry to change the subject Titan.

I had my braces on only for 2 years on top, 1.5 years on bottom. Braces look like a pinch compared to the pain I hear about wisdom teeth.

Yea, well I hate going to get fillings and stuff like that.  And, I haven\'t really heard much about wisdom teeth, just that some people have to get them out and some don\'t.  I hope I don\'t, because I hate getting those numbing shots and having to have stuff done like that.

Wisdom teeth taken out sucks, hate the little crevace in the back of your gums where food particles like to hide and cause bad breath.

I woke up when they were doing the surgery, my leg was twitching for some reason and the doc said turn the gas up.  Guess it has to be done though...

I had my wisdom teeth out about one year ago.  It wasn\'t that bad really.  They stuck me with the needle on the arm, knocked me out, and I woke up in a different room which I supposedly walked to under my own power.  It wasn\'t bad except for having to change the gauss, a lot of blood to stomach.  Your mouth will get really use to that taste.  Eating is tough for the first couple of days.  2 days after the surgery I was going golfing with my friends eating solids with only a little trouble.  Good luck with it though, everyone is different with it, some people have a lot of trouble and some people just sleep and have minor pain.

I bleed after the surgery? Shit. I bled like hell getting two teeth pulled. It takes hours for me to stop bleeding orally :crap:

when I had my front tooth fixed after it got chipped I was on nitrous since local anesthetic doesn\'t work for me, and I kept on seeing duck people.  I got royally f*cked up.  After it was done I was still f*cked, I got in my car and looked at my eyes and they were completly dialated.  I just sat in my car until it wore off a little bit so that I could get home.  Though it was a helluva lot better than my other trips to the dentist.

Yea but you won\'t really notice it for the most part for two main reasons.  One, you are numbed up for almost the rest of the day so you can\'t really feel anything and two, you sleep most of the day anyway.   The only part where it is kind of gross is when you change the gauss, other than that, you really won\'t know your bleeding.

 I think they gave you too much. When I was on it I was smiling while they stuck my gums with a needle.

I love the nitrous gas. I feel high as a kite. it feels so damn good. I think I get that too tomorrow but not sure. I really hope I do. Whenever I get sealants put on my teeth and when they use the cold water to do fillings, I just sit there and relax.

I got the gas for like 15 minutes, by that time I was floating all around the room picking up stuff, then they pricked me in the arm and I was completely out.

my prob is that for some reason I\'m not very seseptable (sp) to any type of anesthetic, so they kept asking me if I felt it and I told them no, by the time I was feeling it the shit was on full blast and they left on that way

The worst part about getting your wisdom teeth out is the gauze and the persistent taste of blood. The pain is manageable after a couple of days(just like braces).

The swelling sucks though. Your jaw will still be swollen almost a week after you feel fine.

Man, I might just be unusual, but I thought the whole procedure was nothing.  Barely hurt, the bleeding/gauze phase lasted a few hours then was done, I was eating normally the next day, and I went out that night.  The pain was really nothing.  I\'ve been through MUCH worse dental procedures (I play hockey, my two front teeth are fake now).

Oh, and I also requested not to be knocked out for the whole thing :p

You have a 50/50 chance of it being the most miserable experience of your life!

No $hit, but I can give you some advice and PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT RINCE OUT YOUR MOUTH FOR 3 DAYS AT LEAST!!

Eat only things that melt or can be "gummed" do not let ANYTHING get stuck in the back by your holes.

I ate mac and cheese and thought I would rince my mouth out with that little squirter they gave me.....BAD MOVE. I rinced away my blood clots and caused a Dry Socket! Let me tell you 2 Vicodins would not even touch the pain! It was the most extreme pain ever and it did not stop for about 2 weeks. I had to go back every other day and get my holes (bottom) repacked with this nasty crap for 2 weeks. It was a brutal ordeal, but I made it worse by rincing my mouth.

My wife on the other hand was eating fine in a couple of days. Just be carefull, those clots have to develope and STAY there for a while until your mouth heals. I know it sucks but you can live with out brushing your teeth or rincing your mouth for a few days.

If you do rince do nOt let the water/solution get anywhere near the back of your mouth, keep food and drinks away from there too.

It\'s a bitch but you can make it better by not being stupid (like me lol)

avoid dry sockets at all cost!

I just went to the dentist for the first time in 8 years yesterday.

I gotta get my wisdom teeth out too. I will do it after I get back from florida. I only had one tiny cavity that they will just laser out.

not bad for 8 years of no dentist....

I have all 4 wisdom teeth still.  They came in fine.  Never had a cavity either. The only problem is that I have a bit of an over bite so I grind my teeth while sleeping.  And Ive damaged my front teeth a little bit.

I had to get my wisdom teeth out in high school and it wasn\'t that bad.  They knocked me out with an IV and woke up in a different room.  It was crazy coming back to reality, when the nurse asked me to say something my speech was all garbled and I couldn\'t really make any cohesive sentences for about 5 mins.

When I got home I had to keep the gauze in for about a day and couldn\'t eat any solid food for like 2-3 days.  You also have to rinse your mouth out with saltwater for a week or so.  Some people get it really bad though...

hope you don\'t have a dry sockets ;)

My front is still a little numb. I hope they didn\'t hit the nerve. The rest of my mouth is woken up. Other than that, I\'m in a bit of pain but nothing I can\'t handle. I hope my front wakes up soon so I can eat.

Did the same thing as Gman2, bad move.  My head looked like a soccerball and I was out of school for a week.

My stitches didn\'t dissolve until about three weeks after the surgery.  You\'ll want to eat solids way before then, and it\'s okay too.  Just use your front teeth to chew.

The novicane hasn\'t fully worn off yet. There\'s a slight tingle. They put too much of that crap in me. My right cheek is swollen but my left isn\'t. This isn\'t too bad. It sucked when I took my biomed sensors off (damn hair). I\'m not in a tremendous amount of pain and the painkillers I took 6 hours ago should have started wearing out on me. Even without them, it wasn\'t too bad. Maybe it will be a walk in the park for my. My mom had problems, my bro had problems (but he had to still swim after he got his out which screwed him over). My dad went to work the next day (although I\'m gonna try and milk it on saturday at work because I\'m there for 8 hours and don\'t feel like being there). I seem to have more of my dad\'s health. That and I\'m always active either in marching band, lacrosse or running/weightlifting....sortof....in the off season. Thanks for all your help guys.

Believe me, I hate being outside in the sun with a damn piece of metal (trumpet kicks ass though. Me and my best friend wrote a song, me on trumpet, him on guitar and both on vocals. It was for a class project and may start a band as encouraged by our  classmates :) ). My parents actually make me do it but I need to get out of the house or else I\'ll turn into a nerd that spends 4 hours a day at a video game message board.
